Originally posted by MnFastBoat Cord, what helmet did you use last year ? I borrowed one from Gordo. Almost turned into a fiasco. When we were at the Milwaukee race Gordo offered to let me borrow a vest and helmet. When I got down to the shootout, I met up with him told him that I needed to borrow them. He said to meet him in the staging line. I went and got my boat inspected, but by the time I got to the staging line, he had already run. Turns out he was light on gas and there was a pretty dock girl... I tried hailing him on the vhf with no success (that's why I made the run with the antenna up). Finally my turn was up and Gordo was still nowhere to be found. I went up to the starting judge and told him the situation and that I'd be dropping out. I had idled probably 500 feet when I finally saw Gordo comming twords me! I quick shouted to him that I needed to borrow a helmet and vest and he's like "What?". He had totally forgotten the offer from the race. I quickly threw the vest on and was happy too find it fitting. Then I tried to put the helmet on. Damn, Gordo sure does have a small head! :D I could get it on, but the thing wouldn't seat all the way down. At this very moment the boat that was in front of me made it's run. I cut into the staging line (the boat behind me knew what was going on and was Ok with it) and made sure the start judge knew what was happening. The total time between me meeting Gordo and making the run was only a couple of minutes. I actually had the boat at a high in gear idle while I was suiting up. Because of the timing and the small helmet, I made the first run with the chin guard pushing against my nose. Getting it off was just as interesting! Made for a pretty good Chris Farley impression! For my second run, I wet my hair down and really jammed it on. I was actually able to get it all the way on (it's nice having a full field of vision) but getting it off was even worse! Damn that thing hurt! That's why I was really hoping to use my own helmet this year! :p |
Anyone know the exact dates of the Shootout this year?
