Later;
Obviously they can make some customers happy.
My biggest beef is the crap I had to deal with were not "honest mistakes". They were corners cut to increase profits at the potential risk of me and my passenger's safety

I Also Have A 90... Never a problem with the hull fit finish or Quality. Remember the adage if cars were as dependable as boats we would all be ridding horses>>>oh ya having owned a few of them there not dependable either.. as for cars??any way! I don't think there is a boat builder out there that can say they have never had a problem remember the gel fade on every boat built between 1986-1994 (quite a run) and most all issues with most boats are in the steering systems or engine.(so to say merc is coming to the straighten things out ???) any way there are a few manufacturers that had gel delam probs(run a body shop ) have seen Paint product problems and there not my fault but you deal with the hand your delt and fix them as ness.A friend of mine runs a fiberglass repair shop and was asked by a manufacturer if he could fix a delam in the gel on a 33 footer he said Yes they then said Great can you do 30 - 40 more!!!(not Fountains) Sounds like Fountain is or was trying to fix this boat and if I know the Qc people and Reggie him self, I don't think he or the company will blow him off. We will have to wait for the next chapter. Ya I'm defending My manufacturer (wouldn't we all!) Just my take on this!

I had an 88 that was tough has nails, I gave it plenty of hits. No idea about newer models however.
The only thing that would happen is I kept breaking the plexiglass hatch on the deck. Offshore in FL the boat would hit so hard the hatch would shatter but everything else on the boat stayed put not even one hairline stress cracks anywhere.(I just kept a few spare hatches after that with my neck and back brace!!!)
Ho yahh!!! it kept knocking the wind out of my girlfreind also when landing like that, but who cares about that.

In looking at this, lets keep in mind that gel coat, paint, vinyl, fiberglass, resin, the porta-potty
are ALL vendor supplied items. It is up to the manufacturer to put together the items correctly. Take Formula, they have now gone to a proprietary weave of glass from Owens, and they did this when the released the FasTech line to improve strength. That is just one example in improving your product to make the customer happy. Not every manuf. will be perfect, and yes Fountain cranks 'em out like crazy so they have a higher ratio when it comes to units vs. potential problems. But he just seems to have so many more than anyone else, or is that just me that thinks this? Formula produces a ton too, but I hear less about them coming apart. Overall in the industry / sport it seems that Fountains are the most plentiful used boat and they are always available for short $$$. And now it's Mercury to the rescue cuz' Reggie can drive the hell out of a boat, but he ain't doin' too well drivin' his business, except maybe into the ground...
I'm not calling out Fountain just to increase my post count, just pointing out the facts, I guess...
Again, just my .02
