Dayem Chris, had the boat for 7 months and of that Fountain has had it back three times now and still not fixed:confused:  Hope they step up and do something this time. They have had their chance to correct the problems and have thus far failed, demand a new one!!!

US1 Fountain 01-20-2004 04:42 PM

Is this the same boat that would not get up to speed do to the hull being.........less than straight?

Spill the beans, all the beans, and nothing but the beans. :)

olemissalum 01-20-2004 05:23 PM

same one and there are other issues, cosmetic and mechanical.

CAP071 01-20-2004 06:32 PM

Did you talk to the Factory already?

ThirdBird 01-20-2004 06:40 PM

US1 Fountain 01-20-2004 08:30 PM

CAP071 01-20-2004 08:34 PM

CAP071 01-20-2004 08:44 PM

It's Ok spill the beans I support ya no matter what your problem is. can't be as bad as when I went to buy a new boat that wouldn't even start :p But the dealership said No refund :hothead:

Alli-Runner 01-20-2004 10:28 PM

Guys, your killing me! I need to speak with Reggie Fountain and try to resolve my issues. Seems like he ought to know when he has a VERY UNHAPPY customer.

JROMY 01-20-2004 10:53 PM

Here we go again, but dare I say it - (besides the popcorn references) - maybe the manufacturer isn't always right. If I recall correctly, Lamborghini Diablos (built just a few years ago- and look at Car & Driver Reviews if you think I'm kidding) were melting body panels off when the brakes heated up. I can just picture the exchange on here:

Person - "Does anyone know how I can get Lamborghini to fix my rear quarter panels? Both melted off after they heated up a bit. I went to my local dealer, but they were out of business, so I went to a different Lamborghini dealer and they wouldn't give me the time of day"

OSO response - "What is wrong with you? Lamborghini is the greatest car ever built. There is no way your car is melting. You must be on drugs. Plus you must be an as$hole. F you. You scum bag. You piece of sh!t Why don't you learn to contact Italy and find out personally who screwed your car up. Blah blah blah.

I just think that for all the people that try and start B.S. stuff on here, far more have real problems that we should support rather than immediately attack. My $.02

Oh, and just for the record. I was at Marina One down in Boca/Ft. Lauderdale a few years back and they had a 42 Fountain that the forklift forks had pushed the bottom in on while they were taking it out of a bunk. It was sent back to Fountain where the repair job was done. The first week back, the repair job popped out of the hull - literally. I was not impressed. My only point is that if that owner posted, I saw first hand. No bashing Fountain, no evil plans. Just the truth. And as they said in the X Files, "The Truth is Out There". But only if everyone is open to seeing it. And helping resolve problems based on it. Not getting emotional.

I custom ordered a 32 fever several year's ago. Told them it had big power in the works.

Problems;

1) did not set engines on the centerlines I asked for.

2) Bilge not color I requested and paid extra for;

3) gel coat on hull OK, on deck it was pitted, gouged had over-spray from another color boat (in Gel coat)

They drove the boat back to factory on my trailer (3,000 miles) Painted the deck over with Imron which they got over-spray every where, burned through the paint with the buffer in a dozen spots and burned the upholstery with buffer.

4)When I repowered with new engines, I discovered nearly every hole drilled in stringers had not been resin (or anything else) coated to prevent rot .

5) nearly every hole drilled (for exhaust, vents etc) only revealed huge internal air voids on a boat that was to see severe duty

6) when loose headliner was removed from cabin it became obvious that I could (and I did) pull the bulkheads out by HAND. They came out easily, NO tools required They are only there to hang upholstery.None of the plywood was marine plywood

Be wary of what they can hide with trim and upholstery. I spent over $30K and 100's of hours rebuilding structural problems, filling air voids, and repainting boat.

I trust it now but would never buy another Fountain.

Remember, custom ordered, very specific requirements.

STREAK FREE 01-21-2004 12:18 AM

Ettore Squeegees racing has also had major problems with their 42' Fountain. Four months new and the skin peels off the whole bottom and up the sides as well. :hothead: :hothead: :hothead: :hothead:

Reed Jensen 01-21-2004 12:26 AM

What happened, beak break off? Too funny! It's amazing how Reggie has taken that old style recurved bow and made it his trademark. I had a fountain.. after I had removed some of the interior to repair rotting wood... I have to admit... I wasn't too impressed with the manufacturing... the boat never broke... but the glassing and fitting of the stringers and bunks looked like it had been done by a Junior High School shop class student. NOT impressive at all. Lots of cut off screws with nylok nuts hanging down in to the cabin to poke you in the scalp. I have to laugh about the comment on the Lamborghini.... I personally have seen an Aston Martin Lagonda catch it's interior carpet on fire from the overheated catalytic converters... typically under-engineered English crap. Worst part is the Aston was about $160,000 new... :p

leave reggie alone, he trying to catch the kilo record back!!!!!!! that's more important than keeping your customers happy!!! :D :D :D

Formula Outlaw 01-21-2004 07:18 AM

Rather interesting that Reggie himself has not responded to this thread. (Or not surprising). For what you pay for his boats, he should make them right, no questions asked, as any manufacturer.

That's his problem and that is why Mercury is moving in, and fast. He sells boats based on the "win on Sunday, sell on Monday" theory, problem is his "Monday" boats are not built the same as his "Sunday" boats are. It kills me to see him go to Skater to build his race / record hulls, or take MTI's good designs and work and slap his name on them without so much as a mention of Randy in the ads. Then he goes out and sells junk, I have had friends that have owned 42's and 47's of his and the bottoms have peeled off them! He is a PRODUCTION builder, plain and simple, just like any other high-volume builder out there. I went to Formula and had them try and build me a boat with 1/2 doz. "custom" requests... it took 12 months and it just didn't come out right, not even close. However, if you don't ask them to think outside the box, they are rock-solid!! I would buy another Formula in a second, my wife loves them and it's entirely possible we may end up back there, (sooner than later). A 353 w/ 525's is the best value / balance of speed, comfort, looks, performance and price on the market right now in that category, (in my opinion). Again, that is just my opinion.... just like the rest of this post.

I know all you Fountain owners will be all up and down my $hit for this, but it is what it is, think about it. When will the day come that he builds a boat that will CONSISTENTLY stay together, run right and make his customers happy? Kilos records are one thing, but your customers are another, they can (and will) make you or break you. I think he has forgotten what got him to where he is today, his customers. He used to be on the top of his game, I think he has lost sight of all that and his ego is too big for his black turtlenecks...

Just my .02:)

Reed Jensen 01-21-2004 11:08 AM

Reggie Fountain..... Enzo Ferrari.... both won on Sunday... sold on Monday.... Both made crude products. Enzo sold the manufacturing side of the car business so that he could race. Fiat is not known for making the best cars.... but with Fiat at the helm.... Ferrari prospered and the cars were built with a certain amount of consistancy. When Ferrari himself owned the company, the cars were "hand built". Despite the beautiful coachwork, the mechanicals looked like something that was cobbled together in Luigi's back yard. Maybe the same will happen with Fountain Powerboats.

Tricky919 01-21-2004 11:29 AM

Geez, i just bought a new Fountian. I guess i shouldn't run it on Sundays, so I won't have those problems on Mondays !!!!!!!!!!!!!

epeek 01-21-2004 08:54 PM

Wow,some tremendous Fountain bashing going on
here. I think these things go on with all builders.
But look at the precentages.Fountain sells alot
more boats than alot of other manufacturers,so
there will be more complaits. Heres my point.
A friend of mine bought a brand new Formula
27 back in 1987,after 1/12 seasons ( about 6
months of boating) the swim platform (silent
thunder) fell right off the boat! cost him 4k to
replace it. Then the port engine kept blowing
couplers. 5 couplers later,he was told that no
matter how they tried they couldn't get the
engine alignment right. He traded that year for
a new Sea Ray that within 2 years the bottom
blistered all over the place. I bought a new 28
checkmate in 1990,twin 454s. It came in with a
huge bubble in the deck. The bulkhead & the
cabin door all fell apart 1 month later. Sent it
back to checkmate. They sanded out the bubble
which immediatly faded out and looked like
$hit, and did a half assed job on the cabin door
and bulkhead. Bought a new scarab that proceded
to blister all over the bottom & everything fell apart.
So far(cross my fingers) My Fountains quality has
been pretty good. Boat runs solid, but it certainly
isn't a 500k -750ki custom!

i dont know if he only did it twice in his career of boat building, or i must of gotten struck by lightning, but March of 1998 and Februrary of 1990. Sold the 90 in 1998 and i still have the 98 with no problems at all except for an occasionally water pump or ignition module going out. i have had many ( MANY ) trouble free and enjoyable years and hours.
