Sad indeed. :( :( :(

Macklin 01-26-2004 11:52 AM

Very Sad indeed. And a wake up call to say the least.

Wardey, we do not run over 70 very often, but I am definitely purchasing a couple of inflatable vests for my wife and I to wear this summer when we are out runnin' hard with other club members. I have put that purchase off too long.

I am not positive, but it looks like the boat a friend of mine bought in August brand new. His deal fell through and he never took delivery. Was this a new boat?

5:00 news stated that they still have not recovered Chris's body. The current in that particular place is pretty strong and we have a front blowing through tonight.:( In one of the posts some one implied that they did not use a jacket if they could swim to shore.....a jacket is not particularly used to keep you floating so you can swim to shore.....a jacket is used if you become knocked unconscious to keep you from sinking to the bottom so help can find you to assists. Like I always tell my son, crashing in a boat is not like laying a motorcross bike down, when you lay there until help arrives. In a boat crash, you will sink if you do not have a jacket on. We are all guilty of running hard with out a jacket but things like this should wake us up abit if nothing else. Dave

My thoughts go out to all of Chris's family and friends during this hard time. This tragic accident is another reminder of how dangerous our sport is and how important floation devices can be. Gods Speed to all.

Mike (Jammin 1), That was a nice interview you did on Chris on Fox 13. I just wish it was a happier topic. As you know, our hearts and prayers go out to all those involved. Hopefuly his body is recovered soon so they can lay him to rest. Dave

JPD Motorsports 01-26-2004 06:03 PM

Man this is really bad news. :( :(

AIRTIME 01-26-2004 06:04 PM

God bless chris and the girls, and to Macklin I would think you would need al ifeline vest to protect you from a stuff or roll at high speeds the vest your talking about would rip apart I would think:confused:

SHARKEY-IMAGES 01-26-2004 06:32 PM

I didn't realize the water temps were so cold...:(

I will still think positive...and pray they find him alive...:(

Wardey 01-26-2004 09:28 PM

Sharkey, I appreciate the positive attitude but it doesn't look good. Plus we have some bad weather coming in tonight. Pray for a Miracle but I think we lost him.:( :( :( Dave

Safety First, Please!

Some of these modern day performance boats are race boats in sheeps clothing. Please treat them as such. This goes for your passengers as well. I have experience in being injured in fast boats, and I'm here to tell ya...it's no fun. This goes for vee-bottoms as well as catamarans. Please...think: Safety First.;)

Charmed1 01-27-2004 08:22 AM

That is very sad news. I know this will make alot of people think long and hard about safety equiptment including me. :( :( :(

Did anyone notice the anchor woman on the video says Spectre Powerboats can cost "as much as $100,000".

My prayers go out to his family.Let's all remember this tragedy next time we are in our boats. If you ever have a feeling your getting a little out of control, pull back on the throttles. Listen to your gut feeling it could save your life.

I hate the St. Pete Times. Is it really necessary to publicly discuss how much someones home sold for in 1999 and what other businesses Jay Pilini is involved in? I hardly see the relevance. More senseless dribble from the SPT.

At least the first part of this story had more meat to it than the previous three days of speculation. It was from the guy who was there when it happened. I was glad to see he pointed out that the Spectre is a safe boat designed to run at these speeds.

I agree!
The SPT is notorious for crap like this.

"The water was glassy smooth south of the Gandy Bridge on Sunday as the two 36-foot Spectre racing boats moved into high gear...."

I call Bullchit on this one! It was anything BUT glassy on Sunday at 2:00pm, I was out there.

Wardey 01-28-2004 07:14 AM

I agree, The St. Creep Times is about 90 percent negative comments and 10 percent good. I did like how they explained "Poker Runs" as when you stop by different places instead of saying bars. I was suprised at that. Dave

Jammin 1 01-28-2004 07:18 AM

The power was twin 650 hps in Chris' boat

Wardey 01-28-2004 07:20 AM

Hey Mike....

Jammin 1 01-28-2004 07:52 AM

What's up Dave? Still no news on Chris. I guess they'll decide to continue or call off the search today!??:(

Wardey 01-28-2004 07:54 AM

I just wish they would find his body, so the family can start to heal a little bit.:( Dave
