29 Profile ???

Looking for a friend, we found a couple of the older style boats 95/97 , dont really have any info on the boats as to how they handle the rougher water and speed with a big block. Anyone out there have info good or bad lets us know.

Steve_H 01-27-2004 02:39 PM

ive never been on one but i was trying to stay along side Kruzn at loto last summer in a 288 Sunsation.
water was very rough at the time.
needless to say , i had to drag my tabs and slow down or take a beating.
he just kept going and didnt seam to bounce around much.
btw , his boat is in the boats for sale section.

mjpcowboy 01-27-2004 02:45 PM

I knew of a mid to upper 20 ft with a single 502. This boat did 55 on the best day but it did seem to have a fairly good ride. I think it was around a 1995 or so. Individual had it for at least 5 years and did not have many problems with it.

stevebaretta 01-27-2004 03:55 PM

A friend of mine is looking at buying a 04 26 ft with a
496 HO (425 hp). Profile owner says it'll do 75 mph.
Lines on it look clean and decent graphics.

CustomRigger101 01-27-2004 04:36 PM

now are you talking about the Profile cat made in iowa...

mjpcowboy 01-27-2004 04:41 PM

Profile makes a cat and a V Hull both made in Sumner, Iowa. The 26 V Hull with a 496 I seriously doubt will hit 75 GPS. The speedo may show 75 but that can vary a great deal from actual speed. They are a very heavy boat and do not have that agressive of a Hull design. Just my $.02

stevebaretta 01-27-2004 04:54 PM

Surely they wouldn't lie just for the sale of a boat. Would they?

CustomRigger101 01-27-2004 05:15 PM

i know guy on east 14 and maury.. that has one with a SC motor in it and also know the guy that built the mold for there windscreens.. witht eh right drive and motor combo the boats will run 70 plus.. and i thought they were coming out with a 38 Cat too...

FASTTIMES 01-27-2004 05:24 PM

Profile makes a 260v, 299v, 331v, 372v, 382v and a 402v.. My buddy has a 26v with a stock 454MPI MAG that runs 69gps,,, The 26v is light boat, with a narrow beam. I'm not shure of the exact weight but I will find out..

My friend has a 1994 29 Profile. He has BIG (800-900) HP power in it. Here's my take on it ....

Pros
Full 29' and wide, has a big feel to it.
Plenty of freeboard.
Rides pretty good, although I've never been in real rough water on it.

Cons
The deck is REAL thin. It flexes when walked on.
Finish quality, it seem like a lot of the door, fittings, panel, etc. are broken.
There are faster hulls out there. He's running mid 80's.
When seated in the front seats I can't see over windscreen.

The engine comp is short. It adds cockpit room but he had to mod the back seat to fit the blower.

What year is your buddies? I know they stopped building them for a time. Randy said he lost to many sales because of the 7 1/2 foot beat. The late 90's brought about the craze for the wide 8' plus beam boats. Seem people have started to realize that maybe the narrow beam is better. He started seeing more interest in the model so they brought it back and re-introduced it.

Caincando1-
My buddies is an early 90's, not shure of exact year.. I also know of an 88 or 89 26 profile "8 meter" with twin outboards, it has a windshield.. The 2 boats have the same hull with different decks.. I believe they are still using the same hull on the new 260, with a new deck... Both boats I'm speaking of have the 7 1/2 ft beam.
The new 260 looks great

Is Randy the owner of Profile?

Caincando1 01-28-2004 12:10 PM

Is Randy the owner of Profile?
Yes, along with his wife Debbie, sorry I forgot to add that.

Caincando1 01-28-2004 12:13 PM

I also of an 88 or 89 26 profile "8 meter" with twin outboards
Is it white with black, orange, and red(close the same colors mercury used to use) stripes?

Brian

FASTTIMES 01-28-2004 12:14 PM

Yes it is.. I also noticed a black, orange and red 89 I/O on ebay a few months back..

stevebaretta 01-28-2004 02:46 PM

Yes, along with his wife Debbie, sorry I forgot to add that

I think I seen him at the Overland Park boat show. Showing one of his boats.

G-Force 01-28-2004 05:05 PM

I'll have FreekAzz post up as he has a 29' Profile.

My take on his boat is that it's squirrly at 70+ mph and it's really narrow in the cabin.
He's going to be adding a supercharger this year and hopefully longer trim tabs to stabilize at the higher speed.

Dave M 01-28-2004 06:29 PM

I wonder if the 29 Profile of today is what was the '27 with an integrated platform added? I saw a newer 29 next to my friends boat and it looked smaller.

Whass up doggs? I have a 29'9 '95 Profile, w/built 502/535hp 69 gps very responsive off the line & very good mid range K-Planes highly recamended.running a 23pitch 3 blade mirage plus definatly not the right prop for the boat. The boat tends to dig in on the frt. end to much Not enough bow lift w/ this prop talk to a few other members sug. going w/a 4 blade bravo 1 struct. of boat very sound. defin. defin. no storage space. Its a major down fall on the boats design. my friend is right a little squirlly. could be from not enough bow lift. Only complaint is storage, not enough

Caincando1 01-29-2004 11:08 AM

Yes it is..
I saw that boat for sale on the interenet about 4-5 year ago. I believe it was in IA then. Cool boat, wish I had, had the money to buy it.

Also, here is an article on the 299 written by Hot Boat, back in 00.

My friend said he is going to have them put it in the contract that the 26V will do 75 GPS with the 496 HO
since that statement was made during the sales pitch.
We'll see if they back down from that number when it gets down to sale time.

Wildchild212 01-29-2004 01:58 PM

Debbie told a friend of ours that the 26 was tested by hotboat lately, and that is where they got the speed numbers. Sould be out on the news stand soon.

stevebaretta 01-29-2004 02:05 PM

Great, thanks. I'll tell him to pick up a copy.

That did do a test a few months ago.

Steve if your friend is interested in a 29 a friend of mine is selling his.

Dave M 01-29-2004 02:26 PM

Did you LOTO guys ever see a 29 Profile called "Hot Hot Hot" ?

stevebaretta 01-29-2004 02:47 PM

Thanks KC, I'll tell him but it sounds like they are really working with him on getting what he wants, at a price he can afford. If it falls through, I'll get ahold of you. I guess it helps when you can buy factory direct.

BOSSMAN 01-29-2004 02:48 PM

Go for a test ride with a gps in your hand and in that contract state real clear final payment after test ride only at 75 +mph. Now you will see who is just talking a good show. Be very careful on sales story of speed.

liquidlocomotive 01-29-2004 03:17 PM

I had a 1994 29' Profile. Ran 80-82 mph on gps with a 588ci naturally asp. motor putting out 700hp at 5200 rpm. It was a nice boat and a good value. running four blade labbed bravo. 26/28 pitch. boat flew level with tabs set neutral. it was fun! No integrated swim platform. very nice size boat.

BJM 01-29-2004 03:22 PM

If a salesman said 75, you might get 70. I would bet against it hitting 75 on GPS. Just my opinion.

Caincando1 01-30-2004 07:44 AM

I've seen more than one person "claim" 75 out of the old 26's with 502's. So i'd have to imagine a new one with more HP would be capable of that.

I remember the early 90's Profiles...can you say run forest run???

So many rotting and deck problems. My bud was selling his 26 when he had the guy in the cabin, and he sat on the bench on the port side....IT COLLAPSED!!!

the deck was like a trampoline, the bolsters base was coming loose...oh, but it ran nice!
Was sloppy in rough water, no one wanted to ride in it over 60... driver...maybe, but still a handful

BUT, I do hear wonderful things about the new ones.
Priced right, they have (and have always had) great lines, quality is a zillion times better than the early days.
Have not ridden in a new one so I cant comment on ride.

How bad you want to beat on your boat in the first hour you own it?? Test top speed in the same boat same power of someone elses at the dealer....

stevebaretta 01-30-2004 09:13 AM

Well, he pulled the trigger and ordered the 26V with the
496 HO, custom paint and added a few goodies of his own choice. According to him, they were very accommodating and worked with him on all the details.
Now I will have to deal with his enthusiasim.

Caincando1 01-30-2004 09:57 AM

Well, he pulled the trigger and ordered the 26V
Way cool! Keep me posted on this please.

Make sure he keep a close eye on his money. ;)

Will do!:D

stevebaretta 02-04-2004 08:46 PM

Caincando1, My buddy upgraded to the 525 hp with an XR drive. I about crapped when he told me he is paying out the extra cash. He has a need for speed. To me, it's unbelievable what Mercury suggests as a MSRP!
