Fountain Does 156.9 MPH

Reggie Fountain and Jeff Harris just did a one way pass at 156.9 MPH . The new Kilo is now set at 153 MPH.
Reggie says there is more to be had.
Go Riggie!!!!!!!!!!1

HyperBaja 02-07-2004 12:35 PM

So it only take a RACE BOAT to be as fast as an Outerlimits. Wow, I am amazed.

johnnyboatman 02-07-2004 12:38 PM

hyperbaja, you arent raggin about fountains are you.

LapseofReason 02-07-2004 12:41 PM

It's not a record, just a certified speed. It's a long way from the 170 that was said to be the speed Reggie was hoping for. Anybody want to bet OL goes 10 mph faster.

Moisture-Missil 02-07-2004 12:42 PM

someone told me it had (STERLING)s in it. true or false. any one know for sure?

Impressive. I am more impressed with the Fiore's. They do it in a boat that can be tied up after going 150 and enjoyed. Not a stripped down "shell" with motors and a steering wheel.

Thats cookin in a vee!

No, I am ragging on them. Great boat, but Outerlimits has shown its worth in the kilo record IN A PLEASURE BOAT. If we want to do apples to apples, put a full cabin, full interior in the fountain.

LapseofReason 02-07-2004 12:50 PM

Hyper the OL didn't have a cabin but it was an open boat. The new 47 that will be the record holder is a full canopy boat.

Congrats. Why does everybody have to say something negative about it? I say good for Fountain and good for Outerlimits if/when they break it.

Waterfoul 02-07-2004 12:52 PM

That's pretty fast.

What hp was Reggie running this time? What did OL run last time? What are they running this time around? Just wondering how much more hp OL is putting in it's boat.

'Foul

LapseofReason 02-07-2004 12:52 PM

What Fountain was it?

I agree.

What where the weights of the previous 2 boats that where run by both of them ? I know the OL is/was heavier, I'm wondering by how much.

Foul they are both to be romured to be running Sterling power. I think it was 1350's in Bob's 42 GTX. I think Fountains was 1100 Merc in the old record boat.

Velocity Tom 02-07-2004 01:08 PM

What sizs foutain ? a 32 !!

chaser 02-07-2004 01:29 PM

OK. It's the Shock Wave with BIG Sterlings.

Regardless of all this knit picking both OL & Fountain can run what ever they want. So my dad can beat up your dad. If you don't like it go somewhere and cry about it.

So now it's OL time to step up to the plate.

CustomRigger101 02-07-2004 01:29 PM

i love reggie to death.. but wouldn't want to be around him tonight.. LOL

i just had ta do it ;)

SS930 02-07-2004 02:14 PM

Congrats to the boys at Fountain! Very impressive for ANY vee to run these speeds.

I don't think you could pay me enough to be driving that boat... someone has a death wish or is just plain numb in the head if you ask me.

Mike and Paul,
Drop the hammer boys!!!:D

CAP071 02-07-2004 02:20 PM

Now do it side by side Tough guy! :D

LapseofReason 02-07-2004 02:24 PM

I would drive it, but I wouldn't ride in it with somebody else driving. If it can move faster than I can walk I rather be behind the wheel.

Not to get off topic but when I was racing motorcycles at Daytona, and when your coming off Nascar turn 4 there is a dip in the track, at 180 mph on a Formula USA bike the front tire isn't really on the ground so you can't steer well and drift up right to the wall lap after lap. And let me tell you hitting concrete is harder than water.

I don't give a rats azz who's driving the boat, I wouldn't be in it! Think about it, when engines are built to the max like these are, the likelihood to some type of failure is VERY high (anywhere in the driveline). At those speeds vees are not very stable and any type of mechanical failure is likely to upset the boat enough to end your life before you knew what happened to you. It's not if... it's when! It's shear stupidity if you ask me.

And BTW, I wouldn't say hitting concrete at those speeds is any worse than hitting water. At least with concrete you'll slide, not so with water!

LapseofReason 02-07-2004 03:04 PM

Thats the difference between a racer and a watcher. I am not saying my way is smart or can't kill me but it's the way I am.

I would jump right in that boat and try before I jumped out of a airplane to skydive. I havn't done either but trust my ability to drive anything at speed more than a big piece of nylon to keep me from being worm dirt.

I have crashed a bunch on motorcycles, I don't think you will be able to find me a boat racer that will say they rather hit the wall at Daytona on a bike than crash a full canopy race boat.

JaayTeee 02-07-2004 03:04 PM

Didn't Bob Russell's boat do
155 one way when it set the record ?

How much will canopies give the OL ?

Impressive......Who's ever side your on ;)

KiloKat 02-07-2004 03:05 PM

The motors used in the OL that ran 149 were 1450hp Sterlings. The ones Reggie used today to run 156 were Sterling's 1350hp units. Regardless, both of these ae very fast speeds. Congrats to both companies!

JPD Motorsports 02-07-2004 03:11 PM

Man that is smokin!!! especially in a V. Just would like to say run safe guys and you got some HUGE BALLS:eek:

mikes280 02-07-2004 03:12 PM

reggie does it in 40 degree colder weather to that had to help lets see him do this summer:confused:

dhlaw 02-07-2004 03:54 PM

Bob's boat has seen over 160 on a few occasions..... there is more to go!!

LapseofReason 02-07-2004 03:57 PM

If thats true D-hlaw then the new boat Mike built for the record is going to be insane!!

Its Called compitition and that is why we are driving what we have today not trihulls...we are all better off because of it!:D (Racein's rubbin some times the wrong way)

Gary C 02-07-2004 05:29 PM

Was that kilo trap speed or gps? I could see why he didn't want Mike and his Outerlimits there:):) That is pretty darn fast though.

mcollinstn 02-07-2004 05:31 PM

Lapse, were you on the old unlimited FUSA bikes or the newer hp spec ones? Not trying to categorize you, just trying to figure out who you are.

mc :)

LapseofReason 02-07-2004 05:38 PM

I was on them from 94-96, Mine was a 92 ZX7 with a ZX9 motor, 2 mil. over with all the goodies, titanium everything weighed in at 372 full of gas with 170 rwhp.

Did you race?

LapseofReason 02-07-2004 05:41 PM

I roadraced three years before and two after (91-98) but got sick of the big motor time bombs. Plus when the 98 R1 came out making 150 with very little work.......

Moisture-Missil 02-07-2004 06:50 PM

Reggie"s only running 1300"s . ? is will he go BIGGER, I know Sterling will. I guess we will have to wait and see.

mcollinstn 02-07-2004 07:04 PM

Lapse, those were the REAL FUSAs.

I raced back in the late 80's on a VFR Honda. I tagged along racing with Tray Batey back in the days that we pulled a trailer with his KingCab Nissan truck. That was before I got tied up being married and he got tied up winning twenty-some-odd various national championship plaques.

I've still got bikes and a 99 R1, too. It's amazing what $10k will buy you off the showroom floor these days.

I think I will stay with my 76mph slow poke.

;)

LapseofReason 02-07-2004 07:11 PM

MC, let me know if you want a good deal on an 04 R1, I am getting 4, I also have a 03 GSXR 1000 blue and white with 130 miles on it. Some 54 year old guy bought it thinking it would be like his 82 GS 1100, the first time he rode it he looked down at the speedo and was going 125, He traded it for a XT225.

mcollinstn 02-07-2004 07:13 PM

Yeah, I think it is cool that "production - based" hulls are reaching these speeds. I don't care how gutted the boat is or how big the motors are. The fact that the hull designs are stable and capable at those numbers is just exciting to me.

(yes, I know they are blueprinted hulls, but that doesn't affect my opinion)
