Originally posted by impulsive My main point was that people do like the forum part of the boats for sale section because it give members an opportunity to discuss the boats. I also think it gives people piece of mind buying a boat from somebody on OSO rather than somewhere else. |
Could you incorporate a response section in the other classified section so that those who want to post a question could do so?
|
well . . .i for one have been happy with the evolution of the board since i have been a member. we've seen alot of changes and they pretty much all panned out for the better. granted i tend to look at the "boats for sale" forum more than the classifieds but i think i will like the auction format better. i do like the ability to ask seller questions in the forum and it would be nice to have this ability in the new auction style format but i have also gotten the same results with private messaging. will the "parts wanted" forum be affected? oh an about when will it be up? thanks:cool:

The Auction/Classifieds has many new features and we will do our best to keep the feeling of the friendly atmosphere.
Impulsive, you are not the one that called us greedy, read the posts carefully. No offense taken by what you said. |
Originally posted by OffshoreOnly It is about putting the right things in the right place and not having Commercial businesses buy memberships in lieu of advertising. Sorry, But I could not resist:D :D I really do not care about paying, but call it for what it is. If OSO needs the money to keep going or you want to make some money for all the hard work you have put into it fine. You have filled a need in the marketplace and it continues to grow. You should be proud of it and make some money on it (or stop losing money on it). You deserve it.:) :) But I just cannot buy it's not about the money;) :) |
I am so tired of some of you tight-wads on this board. You ***** and moan about the fees on here. If you guys are so tight about spending $35-$40 or whatever the membership fees are on here, how can you guys part with all the money you burn in gas and maintenance? OSO is a business. Businesses advertise and always look for additional inflows of cash. They see people abusing the website and it is costing them money. They should change it. IF you don't like it, go elsewhere. It is funny that the majority of the bicthing and moaning is coming from people that have joined in the last two years or so. You guys don't know what this site was like in the beginning and how well the board gods have improved it. I will take the time to thank them for what they have given us and will be happy to give them the membership fee each year. IF you don't like, go to one of the other boards and put up with all that bs for free.

whoe dude, chill.
One post talked about greed... the rest of the posts are about liking the format and the discussions among the members surrounding the boats. I was around during the V1.0 days also... relax, we all like the improvements, we also like to give back what we think makes this the place to be. I have seen the pro's skate into the forum too and ruin it. I think they need to remove the soapbox too... oh wait, that's a major feature also! |
I am not just talking about this post. It is everywhere. "I can't see pics without paying, that is bs" kind of stuff. What about the people complaining about the OSO ad in Powerboat? That is what I am talking about.
|
Funny how the ad in Powerboat drove a lot of qualified people to this site to buy the very parts and boats people are complaining about.
If they only knew how much that ad really costs us. But that is all part of the unappreciated efforts. Keeping relationships with Magazines to get the perks. Actually just got shipment of 200 Powerboat Calendars, think I will give them to the Salvation Army. I think the concept of $14.95 per month to even see a post is sounding pretty good. No more advertisers. I will just sit and swipe credit cards. I recently went to buy a new boat and the prices were pretty high in my opinion. I decided it was out of my price range. Maybe I will go back and tell the owner how to run his business and that he is greedy and all about the money. Or maybe if I like the product I should buy it or go down the street to something in my price range. I would not expect the owner to build me a boat at the price I want just because I want one. |
I would be more than happy to take one of those calendars off your hands. I would buy one, but I spent all my money on my OSO membership.:D ;)

Trust me, your efforts are more than appreciated from my standpoint, with the exception of the uncensured section. I just don't think this is the right place for it. But the members voted, you accomodated. Now why do you guys need 200 calanders? The Salvation Army won't miss 1 of them if it made it's way to my house instead. :eureka: GOOD JOB! |
Fountain, the Calendars were donated by Powerboat to be given to the OSO members that attended the Miami Boat Show Party.

Re: Re: I LIKE IT!
Originally posted by SS930 I'll say it since no one else will: There's NO reason to get rid of the forum other than greed.:( OSO is already the only forum I know of that you need to pay to see pictures. I'm sure I'll be poofed soon for making these comments, but I'm doing so because I believe in freedom of speech. I'm not trying to disrespect Steve or OSO. I was simply speaking my mind which I know is supported by others based on the multiple emails I received after making my initial post. I love OSO and most of the members here. I'm a paying member so obviously I see value in paying to use OSO. Granted, I probably donate more to all of the other forums I visit since I understand it costs them money to run those sites and most people don't contribute so I donate heavily to support their unsolicited efforts. I will continue to contribute to OSO as long as the rates remain at a level that I find to be reasonable (assuming I don't get poofed first :D ). I just don't understand why this section is being eliminated. By looking at the poll results it obviously isn't being supported by the members. If you look at OSO as just a business, then its members are the customers. Seems pretty clear that the consumers want an interactive forum. If one or two people are running a business out of their garage and abusing the forum, then they should be contacted and notified that their offerings are out of control. Please don't close the forum down because of one or two abusers, IF this is the reason for shutting the forum down. |
SS, your right the bandwidth is not the point. It is the abuse that is almost uncontrollable and the confusion (first and foremost).
As far as the poll goes I have not even bothered to look at the results as this topic has been argued for two years and with our new Classified/Auction coming soon there is a time that it has to be stopped. |
steve is definatly NOT greedy. He's done a hel of alot for this site and under his tenure its grown by leaps and bounds.
keep up the good work. |
Steve,
I'm sorry to see that a few bad apples have ruined it for all of us. And yes, there is confusion with the two forums (I didn't realize they both existed for the first few months I was here before I became a member). I think the real issue from the members side is making sure the new format is interactive. PLEASE do whatever it takes to preserve this feature because this is what we all want most. This is VERY valuable to us as consumers... BTW, I love the auction idea. Please accept my apologies if indeed these are the only two reasons for the change. Regards, Scott |
Scott,
the interactive has been the reason for wanting to keep it. we will do the best we can. The new Classified even has a feature so that the Gold and Platinum Member can get a discount on ads as compared to the people who only use the classifieds section. There is also a wanted section. |
Jesus, I 'm sorry I posted this now. I didn't want to start WWW 3.
I think the point that people wanted to make is that the forum idea of the section is nice, nothing more nothing less. I'm sure you guys have put a lot of time and thought into the new format and i'm sure it will be fine when it is done. I know my first post included the word " money " in it. However, it was not meant in a negative way. I did not know the reasons behind removing the section and now I do. That is what a forum is for,,, isn't it? I think all that people were concerned about was keeping some of the positive aspects of the old section. |
Come on steve, you know you saw the poll because you voted for C.:D :D
|
Steve...why wouldnt you look at the poll??? Thats a silly statement to make..
When this Forum goes bye bye that will be fine we will adjust! Your improvements most always seem to work out for the best! I would personally love to see the auction format...now some of these guys who are awful proud of their boats will see what others think its worth!!!:D :D :D Why would anyone question why/how a company advertises like OSO did in Powerboat? Thats just good business to advertise.. I cant believe anyone would be upset. OSO could also take all revenues and go shopping at the mall...not a good business move...but they can! I cant imagine people worrying about what OSO does with revenues generated... If ya ask me, the place should be free for a trial period, then everyone should have to pay to get on the site!...with all diferent pay levels...but thats a diferent thread all together!!! I still wish the Classified forum would stay...but hey...if it goes it goes, we adjust and move on... |
Since I'm not a subscriber to Powerboat...
What's the story behind all of the comments about the Powerboat ads??? And why did we get referred to as "nitwits" by Powerboat??? If no one wants to post it, please send me a PM or email.;) |
I guess I missed something.
Who has a problem with OSO advertising in Powerboat? I would guess these comments came from the genius business minds that think OSO is a gold mine. If you want to talk about a ripoff, subscribe to Powerboat. I cancelled 2 years ago. OSO blows the doors off that magazine in terms of valuble info. Poker Runs America is the only one I get excited about. I would like to try the new extreme boat mag though. |
Of course it should stay. Why NOT??
Roby |
Steve Im with Scott..
Q:PLEASE do whatever it takes to preserve this feature because this is what we all want most...
Well Said.. |

How about everyone just wait and see. Let them set up the new board and see what features it has and doesn't have. Change could be good, you never know. Wait it out and see what the new format brings.
|
Corrado, i think it is going to be part of the auction format which i think will work better. i'm assuming its like ebay and ateast that way there will there will be a time limit of sales and you will know if you got the part or not. this new format will also eliminate "ghost"ads that are put up than forgot about by the seller, these probably suck up server resources for nothing.
|
Corrado- still lookin for a mag sport. i really believe the right boat will find me:D i heard about a 28 maltese in my area somewhere but cant remember where i saw the post. .. . search goes on, i'll definetly need the auction site when i find it though :D :D
|
i rarely look at the "formal classifieds" easier to ask questions, post photos and haggle in board classifieds.
|
I value the "for sale" section because of the questions and answers there. I can save myself a ton of work because the knowledgable people here usually have already asked most of the questions that I would have asked. If you can have that feature in your boat classifieds then it really doesn't matter.
However, I will suggest that parts should be free to posting members. Just because they are relatively inexpensive items. Sounds crazy to pay for an ad for a $300 part sale. Not being cheap here, just seems dumb. Maybe raise the dues $1 instead. Boat ads should cost money. |
Jody, you are correct to a point, but what do you do with businesses that are using the classifieds for free and posting a bunch of stuff for sale. If they want to do that, they should advertise then. The board gods worked to hard to get this board to where it is to have people free-load off of them.
