Boat For Sale Section... Yes or No

I think this section should stay. I do understand you want the revenue from the classifieds section and have absolutely no problem with that. However, the boats for sale section should stay and only be available to platinum members.

Just my .02

blownincome 02-07-2004 04:46 PM

I LIKE IT!

It gives a chance to talk informally about the unit for sale and have others voice there opinion and offer answers to questions...
Just my opinion. (you know that whole forum thing)

blownincome 02-07-2004 04:48 PM

Can I Vote for 2??

Yup

mfb357 02-07-2004 05:24 PM

Get rid of the Forum and keep the classified section. It is redundant to have both. Its only one more key stroke away! And seems some post whores have nothin better to do anyway.:D

Agreed 100%.

I'll say it since no one else will:
There's NO reason to get rid of the forum other than greed.:(
OSO is already the only forum I know of that you need to pay to see pictures.

CAP071 02-07-2004 05:37 PM

who you callin a post whore? :D

that part about it will be missed :(

i know i check the for sale section just as much as i check teh rest ofteh board. I find it to be one of the the most useful parts of the site.

The formal classifeds are kind of a pain in the ass. The listings aren't updated as often and its hard to see what new. I often "impulse" buy stuff off the board classifieds where as i only check the formal ones when i am searchign for stuff i'm haoign trouble locating.

I tihnk it SUCKS THE SWEAT OFF A DEAD MAN'S BALLS that the board classifieds are getting killed.

cuda 02-07-2004 06:45 PM

At least keep the parts for sale section. We went through this a couple years ago.

Strip Poker 388 02-07-2004 06:55 PM

Its all about revenue from the classifieds section .

Now we have to pay to list something in the classified section. It WAS part of original membership plan.I think it should be included in our Platinum membership. This is the only board that I know of that charges a membership. I don't mine paying its been worth it,But charging separately for classifieds per month seems a bit much.

They have already decided it so I guess I'll be paying it when I need to sell something again.Oh well.

I do agree we need just 1 classifieds section

Sooooo....I have no problem with the forum classifieds going away.

But aren't half of the ads in the forum classifieds yours? ;)
Or do I have the 2 mixed up?

Shooter 02-07-2004 07:46 PM

I think it would really cut down on a major feature of the Board.

I think the classifeds area is kinda dry. I like the back and forth of a forum.

We should keep it.... Yes you are a MORON....

Sorry but you asked 4 it....

Kidding Kidding

Steve_H 02-07-2004 08:32 PM

everytime i check the classified section theres a bunch of "new" boats added when in fact there may be only a few new ones and unless you open every make you dont really know whats new and whats been there for months. maybe its my antigue puter or cookie settings. dont know.
i like the for sale section much better because of the search feature and the comments. adding a search feature to the classified section would be a good compromise.

suncoastdave 02-07-2004 08:42 PM

I vote for yes !!!!

dockrocker 02-07-2004 09:43 PM

Yes, platinum to start a thread maybe? Hey, I just bought this platinum membership and it better be good for something since I, uh, never visit that, um "uncensored" section! ;) :D

glassdave 02-07-2004 09:57 PM

im for what ever keeps people from puting a "uhh . . my boats for sale" thread in general discussion. hate to nit pick but im so sick of seeing those. THATS WHY WE HAVE FOR SALE SECTIONS!!!!

h2owarrior 02-07-2004 10:01 PM

It should stay. I sold two boats on OSO and used the Forum both times and the classifieds once.

I look at both to see who has what for sale. I do not mind doing so.

The only reason to do away with the forum is for money. The only way you will convince me otherwise is to let Platinum Members post boats for sale in the classified section for free.

The incrementalism of ever increasing costs to participate on OSO has been going on since I joined back in 2001.

To think or state the motive is anything other than $ motivated in naive.

rainmn 02-07-2004 10:36 PM

I'm all for the site making money, but I do wish that section would stay. I check there every day, but only look in the classifieds every once in a while.
Maybe someday I'll buy a new boat, and I won't have to check either. :D

puder 02-08-2004 12:37 AM

I do not think its is BY ANY MEANS for OSO to make money. I think its aways for them to cut down on costs. This is a big site with lots of members and servers and bandwwidth and developers cost money.

I think its avery useful part of the site and i'd hate to see it go. But i do understand the "hemoraging $$$" concept. Hell steve is throwing a party next weekend and as far as i can tell he's flipping the bill and its not gonna be a small bill either.

impulsive 02-08-2004 01:12 AM

I got more votes than no:D :D

INDY27 02-08-2004 06:35 AM

keep it!

Dean Ferry 02-08-2004 06:38 AM

And it ahould be for all paying members, just not platinum members

Oh and TooOld your post count will be going WAY down now :D:D

Shooter 02-08-2004 07:22 AM

I'm for OSO making money, I just like the format of a forum. There is no give and take for the members to see in the classifieds - don't like the pictures either. They can always PM when it comes time to transact.

Way more parts for sale this way IMO. People would be less likely to post "junk sales" in a pay per ad classified. I like rifling through these.

I think if you look at it, this little advantages actually drive up membership.

Audiofn 02-08-2004 07:31 AM

If they can make it so that the new stuff shows up as new then I would be good with it. However it seems that every time I sign on to that area EVERYTHING is listed as new. Yes I have my cookies turned on. It is definatly easier to run through the adds in the forums area but the Classifieds is a nicer look.

Jon

FWK 02-08-2004 07:39 AM

I like the forums also.

jb 02-08-2004 09:40 AM

I check the forum first and most often daily...The classifieds seem to be cumbersome to me to take a quick look...but I do sometimes. maybe 1x a week at best.

Too old, without that forum how would you have so many people begging to sell that 35 fountain for ya!

The forum has started some pretty good conversations regarding some boats for sale...

Besides its a bit informal and can be fun..isnt that why we are here.

9 out if ten I know if its in OSO classifieds its on trader. But if its in the forum...Could be no where else but here...

OffshoreOnly 02-08-2004 12:28 PM

FYI,

All new items in the Formal Classifieds show up at the top of the section they are in. Older ones drop to the bottom just like in the Forums. The red New shows up in the sections that have new items since your last visit.

Also, sorry to all the experts but the money factor does not calculate. The greater percentage of the Platinum members do not use the Forum Classifieds so their 30 day ad in the classifieds for $8 would not make much sense in the $ theory. It is about putting the right things in the right place and not having Commercial businesses buy memberships in lieu of advertising.

As far as other sites not charging money. Do they have the thousands of visitors per day that potentially will buy your parts and boats? How do you think we get the people here and do you think its FREE to do it?

Your comments about greed I take very offensively as I have not taken one penny of salary from this company in two years, I own the Cigarette personally, I funded the OSO party for two years when the company could not afford it, and the countless hours of dedication buiding this site to bring your potential buyers.

No further questions your honor.

DanB 02-08-2004 12:59 PM

Classifieds should be were the pros/dealers advertise.
For sale should be for the once in a while, personal boat, or garage sale type posts. Listing every nut and bolt you want to sell is a waste of bandwidth. Make a list and put it all in 1 post.

DanB 02-08-2004 01:01 PM

And Steve dont need no stinkin OSO money......he makes too much driving the APBA pace boat:eek:

Thank you DanB, that is exactly right. Now it has become small businesses run out of the garage.

150% agree. I laugh when people gripe about paying a small fee to access the site. You can't replace some of the info and more importantly the actual owners and designers of the boats you own that hang around here.

To call the Board gods greedy is a cheap shot given by a cheap person. Go to one of the other sorry ass forums and play with all 5 of their members.

I can't believe that anyone could possibly think that these guys are somehow getting rich from this website.

Your into powerboats (one of the most expensive hobbies) and cry about a $25 fee to get priceless information about them? How embarrasing

Well said man, there always people whining about the membership fees but spend that much to launch the boat in a weekend, without the fuel, drinks, payment, insurance, etc. The amount of money I have saved by having this knowledge is priceless.

impulsive 02-08-2004 04:14 PM

Steve,

In no way did I mean to insinuate that you or OSO are greedy in any way shape or form. I don't believe that at all and that was not meant to be the tone of the thread. If it came across that way I apologize. My main point was that people do like the forum part of the boats for sale section because it give members an opportunity to discuss the boats. I also think it gives people piece of mind buying a boat from somebody on OSO rather than somewhere else. This is because there is a trust that other members won't try to sell you a piece of junk. What I meant about the money was that I understood why you would and should want to make money off classifieds. This is a business and it should be profitable.

As far as the cost of membership. I think the price is extremely fair for what this site provides. I have no problem with the membership and would gladly pay double for the information available here.

Again, my main point was the boats for sale forum and the way it is set up.It enables people to discuss different boats that are for sale. It was NOT meant to insult the owners of OSO.

Joe
