It is a Lysholm Screw supercharger, like a Whipple.

Word out LAST YEAR was that the new Merc Racing version of the charged stroker would debut at 325hp, and that it was planned to be developed into a 450hp version that would still meet "green" standards.

I don't think they can release a 450hp outboard. There is some standard that limits them to 300hp. I believe that's where the 300x falls in. The standard allows a certain % of hp range. The 300x is just at the higher end of the range.

No, the 450 was to be the race version where they do not release official hp numbers. Not a "consumer" motor.

Just like the race Optimax is pushing 350hp.

What standard? It must be an internal industry standard (i.e. NMMA).

Can't say. I'm thinking it's a ANSI standard but I'm not sure. I remember reading about it when they introduced the X series. MC is proably right about the standard only applying to production engines.

I guess they had to cover that anchor somehow ..But ill be runnin two strokes till I cant find any more parts
