If you have cookies enabled, you can leave the game and come back where you left off. It worked for me anyway and avoided a divorce. Wifey turned off the computer.

Done......level 12 cleared.........this thing was a PITA!!.....this guys site is on a webring of puzzles like this. There's more out there.....remember, it all started with the simple Crimson Room......they all seem to mention a night of heavy drinking at the beginning of the game too....hmmmmmm
