Bimini Top

I am having a Bimini built for my 29' Mach 1 . They are going to use 1" Stainless so I should be able to run with it up correct?

Does any one have one in use? Can you send pictures so I a can get an idea what this is going to look like and get Idea's?

And before you respond that I cant have a Bimini :o my Jen told me the only way I can take my new little on the water is to put one on

Thanks in advance,

Loto,
You're BAD:D

With all this bimini talk, how about some pics so we can see if there is such a thing as a good looking bimini. I really need to consider a boat that has one or at least a windshield in order to get the most out of the short boating season in Michigan.

These are lousy pictures but here goes.

Bimini

I've seen them on larger boats too. I just don't have any pictures. Heck, my boat an Advantage 34 Offshore has one. I live in Phoenix, AZ and it's not an option...it's a requirement. :D

A friend of mine has a scarab with the fairing and he had a full enclosed bimini made for it. It has a clear plastic windshield that snaps on to the fairing and clear side curtains. Not the most attractive thing when its up but it got us out on the lake really early last spring, and not to mention makes the cockpit usable when overnighting. Dont bust my balls here but any opinions on having one of those made to fit a cafe? What if it was'nt made so tall and kinda patterened after a canopied race boat.

my last boat came with one.
dont remember the make but you have to bolt a track on to install it. heres a pic of it.

my current boat will be getting one of these soon.

LakeRacer 02-23-2004 10:39 PM

A track is nice

but it isn't necessary.

As for the Cafe, I say go for it. If that bimini with full enclosure gets you on the water more often; what are ya waitin for?:D

Besides, you don't have to leave it on the boat at all times. And the mounts are small and unobtrusive. Take the bimini off and store it in the garage...it aint hard to do.

Those pictures are making me ill. Isn't there a site called CCO? Cabin Cruisers Only.com???

 :( :)

If you are still using your bimini, I noticed that your straps aren't twisted. Try this and you'll find that they won't flutter and flap in the wind when you're moving about.

Also, I had one of those pop up umbrellas. It was great all the way up until the first breeze bent one of the umbrellas stays (sp) and it collapsed. Make sure all the hardware is heavy duty.

Steve_H 02-23-2004 10:51 PM

LakeRacer , i sold the boat along with the bimini.

thanks for the indian trick about twisting the straps and getting heavy duty hardware!

Nort,
Do you have a full enclosure top for the formula? Here in Michigan you need something for running in the cold or getting home in a rain storm.
Maybe i just need to move somewhere warm.
:D

I like the look of Universal Chaos :D

My Mach 1 has similar lines and the boat is being redone in Blue / Grey / Pewter. I think it's going to look great.

Thank you for the pic's. I am excited.

See the before attached I will send after's in a few weeks.

Are you using Sunbrella fabric? I want to do my Nordic and want red as well. Hows the fade factor with the red?

cuda 02-24-2004 07:41 AM

Nort, I thought it was only used once under the orders of the King Poodle!  :p

This whole thing reminds me of the classic fight scene in "Blazing Saddles", spilling from one set (Formula/Western) to another (General Discussion/Buzby Berkeley). The cast:

Hedley Lamar: cuda
Sheriff Bart: Phantom Chaos
Mongo: C_Spray ( :D )
Waco Kid: FightClub
Howard Johnson: Troutly
Gov. LePetomaine: ????

Ok, in the best interests of keeping the peace on Oso, I have come up with a solution for all you bimini lovers. It's called a Searay!:D

Just tryin' to help.:)

BUIZILLA 02-24-2004 09:05 AM

I own 3 Donzi's...

I happen to like tasteful bimini tops, on some applications...

besides, they are much cheaper than skin cancer treatment..

don't ask how I know this firsthand....

Jim, I didn't see one mounted on that beautiful Criterion though did I? :)

That's what I was searching for in this picture.

:D :D Those two weekends were when I kept it out in Havasu for 91 days for out of state delivery. Back in CA, only twice have I had it on. Once for Jeffrey, and once when we stayed the weekend in Catalina.

waterheater......the red is still very red and not faded. Not sure what the fabric is. Did you note that there are NO straps? All 1 inch SS.

Cuda...you crack me up! :D

What kind of top speed are you going to be looking at? 1" in my opinion is a little overkill, but some feel different
Mine is 1" and at 100 it does fine..even with the complete enclosure up

Havasu Cig 02-24-2004 10:48 AM

Nort,

Did your Bimini come with the boat when you bought it, or did you purchase it aftermarket?

I personally hate Bimini's but after recently having surgery to have some skin cancer removed I have no choice but to buy one.

enticer 02-24-2004 10:57 AM

Nort:
Didn't notice that it is 1" SS.......but since you mentioned it.........must weight a heck of alot more than straps.

PhantomChaos 02-24-2004 11:26 AM

Chris....DSM had it made for me. Part of the purchase. Tim Hogan might know.

Enticer, it can't weight that much more than if they used straps. Four extras pieces of SS can't weigh that much can it? They called it the 100mph bimini.....which means that with it up, I shouldn't go full speed. :D :D :D

enticer 02-24-2004 11:40 AM

Nort.....you are correct.I had mine custom made in FL and all they think about is high winds and hurricanes :)
But from mine being 1" as opposed to the 3/4" my other boats had..the 1" is much heavier (in weight)
