More cops that don't want to work.
My best friends truck my old truck a 96 F350 4x4 psd crew cab, was stolen and gone for 3 days then he got the call that they found it. So he asked when he could pick it up, when would they be done doing there investigation. They said they won't be doing one.
So he goes down to pick up the truck and it's pretty fed up and out of diesel. On the inside he find's all kind's of drug stuff needles homemade pipes and empty baggies. So he go's and tell's the cop's about what he found and the cop says "look Buddy you got your truck back what more do you want us to do." So he has it towed back to his house because he knows it's going to take some time to check it over. While cleaning it out he finds he phone that has a bunch of new numbers received and dialed, so he writes them down, then he find's his camera and see's that they used the rest of his film. He took the film down to 1 hour photo, when he gets it back there are a bunch of perfectly good pictures of 4 guy's doing drugs drinking beer putting their cigarettes out on the seats. So he takes the beer bottles with all the finger prints on them the pictures the phone numbers and all the drug crap down to the Police station and talked to the guy in charge of auto theft, and told him everything and showed him the picture's. He said the guy wouldn't even look at it, told him nobody was killed and he got his truck back. Told him he should let his insurance fix the truck and to try to forget about it. So what gives law men, I mean with crap like this it makes it impossible for me to respect what you guys do because now I don't know what that is. |
ARE YOU KIDDING?????
|
It sounds to me like your friend would make a great cop (or investigator). At least alot better than what is in your area.
|
Where was this?
|
NO not at all I can't believe it, I am really mad, this was a real nice truck with only 40k miles on it and they are going to get away with it. This guy has been my best friend since I was 3 and this was the first new truck I ever bought and the nicest thing he ever had.
|
This happened in Columbia MD. My friend is a upper middle class guy work's for NASA, has a nice 500K house. You would think they would want to do a little bit of work .
|
That is f'd up. He has every right to be pissed. I think I'd take it to the next level within the PD.
Good luck. |
Troutly????????????????????????????????
|
Post the pics here, i bet we can find them, or get a PI and find them yourself. The cops will only arrest them and release them....you can use a bat to straighten them out.
|
Lapse of Reason,
That's wrong. I'd be hot!!!!:hothead: I'd have your friend take his story to the press. I'm sure the higher ups won't be pleased watching that on television. :p Dan |
I agree with CandyMan...
|
yup, candyman's right. but don't roll through any stop lights in town if you do persue it that way.
|
He is moving back to VA., and says he's going to do something. He is worried that they will bust him for any little thing he does or just make something up. He has a top level security clearance and any thing can make them take that away, then he loses his job. So he is a bit scared.

I have a first had experience that paralled this. In our case, the car was recovered after they had inpounded it as an abandoned vehicle. Apparently it took them 20 parking tickets to realize a broken window and steering column would make it a stolen car! Luckly, they forgave the parking tickets. Morons. Anways, the trunk was full of tools. I call the cops up and told them about this. I figured that they could be stolen tools and they'd want to print them. The cop told me that I should be happy to have the tools. That if they found out who they belonged too, that we could loose them! Like duh! :hothead:
Don't even get me started on the time we had our credit card numbers stolen! :hothead: :hothead: BTW-my experience was with a big city. I presume this wouldn't be true with a small town cop. |

Thats the whole point, why wont they do anything? All I ever hear about in cases like this is they don't have the man power, then all I can think of is the two cops that sit on the side of the road running radar. If the BS meter in your post Impulsive is you saying I am full of it,I don't lie, that way there is less to remember.

Thats cool it's just sooo bad I can see how some people would think it's bs.
I guess you have to be doing something real bad like 10mph over the speed limit to get them to do something.:D |
Ok this is a quickie..
My girl's car was stolen in philly. They found in tin NJ (camden). We get it back. Cops dont care. Then we find the theifs WORK ID in the car.... Hmmmmm. there was also empty beer bottles and a cash reciept from the beer joint (video survalence). The reciept has the time on it.. the store has video.... Duh? Guess what the cops do? Jack Schiz! I guess I should have become a cop... Lift would be smooth... |
No i hear ya. When I first read it I couldn't believe my own eyes. I would definatley pursue this. It's worse than Cuda's story in Tampa. Atleast these guys have all the evidence they need right in front of them.
What pisses me off is that I got arrested at mardis gras 4 years ago for pissing on a tree. Not pissing in the street or in public. I was way down the back of a dark alley , off of bourboun st., and behind a tree. I had two options, piss my pants or find a tree. You couldn't get into any bars to piss and the line for the porta pottis was 30 deep. They arrested me , kept me for 7 hours then told me if i did not want to contest the charges i could pay $500 and get out. All they wanted was the damn money. For christs sakes I would of went to the atm and gave it to the cop. These f#%king guys steal a truck, trash it , do drugs in the truck, leave drugs in the truck , leave fingerprints on beer bottles they were drinking while driving the truck, and then take f#%king pictures of the whole damn thing and nothing happens.:hothead: I piss on a tree and get arrested... Go figure:rolleyes: |
imagine that....
I'll stop before I get started . @#$%^*(&^%$#@&(*(&$^%^&(%(&^%*^$&*^*&())(&(^%^%$$# $$@!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
If I recall correctly the Howard County Police department is responsible for law enforcement in Columbia (they were in 1972 anyway). The law enforcement agency certainly has a procedure for filing a complaint.
From my experience in law enforcement all complaints were investigated by the professional standards division and the complainant was notified of the result of the investigation. I was a deputy sheriff for 11 years and I wouldn't hesitate to make a complaint about the way this was handled. It's cops like that who give all law enforcement a bad name. The investigators I worked with in Colorado would have never treated a citizen like that. It was unheard of. |
I can't address the situation that happened with your friend's truck, because it would not have happened that way with my dept.
Whenever there is a possibility of getting fingerprints off a stolen vehicle, our Auto Theft unit has our Crime Lab techs go to the impound lot and dust the vehicle. That does not mean that every vehicle gets printed though. Many vehicles that are stolen are to dirty to get prints off of. This does not sound like the case with your freind's truck. Its not as easy as you see on TV. Also just because you find prints in/on the vehicle, won't prove someone guilty. It does give the investigators a place to start building a case. Our law reads that in a theft, the intent is to permanently deprive a person of there property. If you get the property back, it's hard to prove this intent. Generally we charge peoploe with Theft by Receiving aka Receiving stolen property. Its a lesser offense, but easier to prove. It states that the person knew or should have known the property he was in possession of was stolen. |
Send the info to the County Attorney.
I would think with elections coming soon people may not want bad raps on the record :) |
Lapse, he should speak with the Howard County States Attorney's Office (410) 313-2108. There is also a "Victim/Witness Assistance Unit" (410) 313-3153. The State's Attorney is responsible for prosecuting crimes. I bet that if your buddy gives them the info, they could pursue the matter independent of the police, or at least exert some pressure on them to do their job.
If you friend is moving and needs a new job, I have a dear friend that does job placement for individuals with high security clearances. His clients are all of the major defense contractors. PM me if you want contact info for your friend. |
My parents Monte SS was stolen from their garage while they were in FL in Dec. My wife and I had to deal with it, and it was similar to this. They feel that if they find the car, they're pretty much done. Communication with cops (at least around here (Benton Harbor, you may have seen them on the news from the riots) suck. You'd think they knew how to use a phone and could follow up on stuff, but they expect you to stay on them to do their jobs. My wife called once and got "oh yeah, I was supposed to do something about that wasn't I?"
Bottom line, if that happens to me. I'll hire a lawyer just to bug the piss out of the local law enforcement. Call them. Every 30 minutes. :D:D The frustrating thing is, the perp in this case was 16. He'll get a slap on the wrist and he'll be out. He's out on the streets already and has 6 priors. Great f-ing system. Vent and get over it. It costs responsible people a lot of time and money to have things stolen. That's all there is to it. My time is more valuable than that 16 years old ever will be. |
No matter what way they took it don't you think they should have looked at the picture's? When my friend tried to hand them the pictures they wouldn't even take a look. They could be wanted men and they wouldn't even look, thats what really burns my a$$.

I pay taxes. Does that count?

bring back the days of the cowboys, the future looks worse and worse

I'm sorry to hear stories like this about law enforcement. I was a cop who loved the job and it sucks I cant do it anymore due to health reasons. Reading this for me is like torture. Call the Chief, Mayor, and City Manager.
Small town Vs Big town, medium town can probably give the best service. Enough man power and financial resources. You wouldnt believe the man hours we put into a homocide and the resources at our disposal. Now Chicago PD...thats a little different. |
Damn, sucks about your buddy's truck!
I can't believe they won't do anything for him with all that evidence. Take it higher up the ladder, like everyone else said. I would love to see that story on the news, showing the pics and the phone. |
Well the truck will be fine after the insurance pays to get it fixed, it doesn't need any paint work except for around the one lock hole they riped out, so thats good and he was already thinking about redoing the seats in leather. They wont pay for his Valentine 1 radar detector that they took or his tool's so he out of a 1k there. The worst is that these guy's are going to do it again.

I hate hearing about incidents like these. All it does is make all the good, hard working cops look bad. Given the details of the case, I would love to have that fall on my lap. Pictures, very incriminating ones, phone records and possible prints. Its a slam dunk case on a felony charge. Why they did not search the truck when it was recovered to find the paraphernalia is beyond me. Maybe they dont have the time or its not in their policy. We inventory the contents of every car that we tow. Now, maybe the dept there is just too overworked for the manpower. People would really be surprised how little time some depts and officers have to actually work cases so the larger ones take precedence. Where I worked, we handled approximately 30 thousand calls for service last year. There were 28 of us working on the dept as a whole. about 15 of which were responsible for handling the calls. So you can do the math and see how busy you can get. Also, to address the notion of catch and release. We have the same frustrations as the general public over that practice. We have no control over if they get bonded out of jail after they are released. We will ask for a high bail or for it to be denied but it ultimately comes down to a judges decision. There were two incidents with out dept that we argued against the judge releasing offenders but she did anyways. These two times the offenders murdered the victims for which they were arrested in the first place.
So I am sorry to hear about your friends problems. Definately take it to the next level on the dept. If they still do not want to pursue, then contact the states attorney with the info posted. Hopefully they have investigators who will follow up on it and file charges for your friend. |
This is BS!!!!
The police work for us, we pay their salary. I realize they may be loaded with cases but to just brush it off like they don't care is BS. I'd be talking to an officer higher up the chain and if I didn't get action then I'd take it to the media. Keep yelling till somebody listens. You know what....I'll be the narcotics division of your police department will be interested in the evidence and photos. |
Why not contact your local TV station? It seems like the perfect story with all of the pictures and the cops not wanting to do anything further.
|
And we wonder why insurance is so high!!!!!
Does your buddy watch alot of CSI? sounds like he watchs Vegas & Miami |
Yeah, I know they're busy...but they ALWAYS seem to have time to roust people about their driving!
But maybe the only wat the cops can get a raise is to hit me up for another $85... FOR NOTHING! You are right. I actually know a couple of good cops.. But all in all the word POLICE carries more of a negative meaning than anything positive... Sorry to say it, but that's the truth... I wish there was abetter way for them to protect and serve. and not harass and aggrevate... I'll stop now.. |
Hey, I'll admit that there are areas, cops on the streets that have nothing better to do than go after the motoring traffic. We have guys like that around here. While this does serve a function in our society, function depends on where your standing, it is not always to most popular aspect of the job. I am not a big traffic cop. I would rather go after the important serious crimes and criminals. But, you do get alot of those through traffic enforcement. I've gotten guns, drugs, wanted people, stolen cars, drunks and more just from making traffic stops. That's why I say it does serve a purpose. Ive also left many person go with just a warning after Ive established that they are a good person who simply made a mistake. But I work, worked in a area with a high crime rate. Outside of the City Police, we had about the next highest per capita homicide rate, so you can see why some of the lesser crimes would get less attention. Not alway by choice, but by circumstance. As stated before, just from the information posted, I think that Lapse of Reason's friend has a slam dunk case and its rediculous that they are not goin to pursue it. That appears to be a case of people who just dont care to do the job properly. I appologize but it unfortunaly happens.
