Just curious, Anybody from upstate NY?

If so...there is a scheduled Poker Run on Seneca Lake on the 25th -27th of June. Seneca Lake is located about three hours from Buffalo, One hour from Syracuse, and about one and a half hours from Binghamton. The lake is in the middle of New York wine country and extends for roughly 38 miles. The run should be a great time.

P.S. Board Gods please don't remove this thread, I know I didn't post it in the correct area but General discussion is much cooler than the Poker Run section. :D

splashandburn 03-04-2004 05:33 PM

Isn't this run usually on the same weekend but in July? If it is in June - I'm in - July always interferes with vacation week.

bn 03-04-2004 07:16 PM

Is this considered the Seneca Lake Poker Run? or is that a different run?

Padraig 03-04-2004 07:17 PM

This sounds like the ROPA Battleship run but the dates and name are wrong. What's the deal???

Rico 03-04-2004 07:31 PM

Yup, the cuse:D

RLW 03-04-2004 07:56 PM

Read the fine print and you will notice that the Seneca Power Boat Association is sponsoring this event.
ROPA sponsors the Battleship Run. They are two different Poker Runs and two different clubs.
Sounds good, just have to get the boat back together.

JROMY 03-04-2004 09:33 PM

Rico - haven't seen you on here in ages! What's new?

Need-the-Speed - I moved from Skaneateles Lake last year. I had one of the 2 regular go-fasts on the lake. We actually tried organizing a fun run on Skaneateles a few years ago, but only a few boats showed up. We did have a couple 40 +/- footers out there. That was back in the early days of OSO. We did manage to get quite a few OSOers together at one of Oneida Lake's bars one winter to ***** about how much we wanted spring to come .:D

I've always heard of the Battleship - not the other.

speedball 03-04-2004 10:15 PM

need the speed it sounds like there`s quite a bit of interest in the run . it is not the battleship run think spring or better yet summer

Need-the-Speed 03-05-2004 12:53 AM

This run has nothing to do with the Battles Ship Run. It is being organized by the Seneca lake Powerboat Association or SPBA. There has been a large amount of interest in the event with several boats already entered. This is a very good sign considering the event is still 3.5 months away. Prize Money is good, The entry fee is low, and it's a fantastic Lake. I urge all to come and spend the weekend! If you are planning on attending, premium (On Site) lodging will go fast! So Hurry!
P.S. I believe that the ROPA Battleship run is in July. ;)

Rico 03-05-2004 07:08 AM

jromy, how you doing, i have been on here but not much posting just reading. I had to sell the boat but am looking to getting my one and only to Can't say no to those cigs. Love em. I would love to get together. I am going to try to get a summer place up in the thousand islands and i will have you up. Good luck and keep in touch. Give me a call any time. home 656-8435, cell 430-3516

JROMY 03-05-2004 05:24 PM

Rico - Things are good with me. IMy boat is currently for sale, and hopefully by summer it will be gone and I'll have something bigger! I'm in CT now, and this water is a whole different animal. It's nice having unlimited places to run to unlike Skaneateles! I'll try giving you a ring this summer when I'm up that way. I'm always up for cruising the 1000 islands!

Rico 03-05-2004 05:30 PM

Yes jromy you call when your up and when i get my cig i will hool up in the big water. Talk to you soon.

The two events in Buffalo already conflict with the two in the Thousand Islands, and now your group has an event that is also on June 26th that makes 3 conflicts the same day!

Need The Speed ...
Sound like a good time any hotels that you would recommend and other info.... we are about 45 minutes above Albany so it not that far of a trip...

wwwTOPDJcom 03-05-2004 11:40 PM

ya 1000 islands alexbay run is the same weekend

Need-the-Speed 03-05-2004 11:55 PM

Yeah I heard there are other events that weakend. Hopefully theres going to be enough boats to go around:eek: I don't know how the other events are doing as far as registraion goes, I do know that the SPBA has had ALOT of interest. This is very good considering the event is 3.5 months away.
One of the cool things about the Pirates Run is the fact that it located in the middle of NY Wine country. The area is very scenic. Seneca Lake is the largest Finger Lake, roughly 38 miles long and nearly 800 feet deep. There is NO commercial boat traffic to worry about. Watkins Glen (Nascar/WGI) is 15 minutes from the event headquarters. There is an abundace of Hotels/Rest. on the water. There are 3 state launches and a bunch of smaller stuff avail. The entry fee is small $80 and the Prizes are pretty good 1st. $1000, 2nd. $300 3rd. $200. If you have passengers that would like to play you can buy additional hands for $45. If your boat requires the nice smelly gas it's just minutes away. Oh and one more thing ALL PROCEEDS ARE DONATED TO THE UNITED WAY!
If anybody is interested in entering this event pm your address and I'll see to it you get all the information your going to need. Or call the number on the flyer;)

pirates run

Need The Speed keep up the good work .I am sure there are many boaters that would be more comfortable running seneca lake than the river

Need-the-Speed 03-06-2004 07:48 PM

Speedball
Thanks for the praise. I think that this will be a "self Promoting" event once people learn about the area and ofcourse Seneca Lake. The SPBA is all about good times and good friends!

TeamTaboo 03-06-2004 07:59 PM

Need-the-Speed What is the best time to get info on this event. I can call just about anytime. Bill

I agree completely. Seneca is a beautiful place to run and unless you're running something BIG, the river can certainly get a bit nasty.

Need-the-Speed 03-07-2004 02:14 PM

Taboo
You can call just about anytime Mon - Sun 8 - 5pm I think that the Marina is closed on Thurs. in the winter. If you need info you can send me a pm with your address. :)

Just Wanted to let interested parties know that they may obtain a registration form and information at www.senecapowerboats.com . Shortly you will be able to obtain a list of the SPBA yearly eevents as well. ;)

wwwTOPDJcom 03-22-2004 12:10 AM

someone needs to get these events all set up on different dates senca and bufflalo are on the same weekend that Alex bay has there run thats 3 clashes

Need-the-Speed 03-22-2004 08:06 AM

TopDJ
Believe when I say we tried. Have you seen the Poker Runs America Calander of Events? Packed! Every weekend had a run. I don't know about the other runs But we have had an excellent rate of registration. I believe at this point we have broken the half way mark of 100 boats. This isn't bad considering the run is still 3 months away. I was also surprised to learn that we have several out of state participants. I hope every run does great. An organized event is truly great for the sport. We have had alot of negative stereotyping in the past i.e. speed, noise, etc. etc. The more runs the better, but like you say it's to bad there all cramped to gether. Maybe I'll see you at the run ;)

speedball 03-22-2004 05:24 PM

Hi need the speed glad you had a good turnout at the fling hope everyone arrived home safe. keep that blue fin right side up see you march first
