Credit card companies told me that if you REPORT the dispute BEFORE you pay the current bill, then follow it up in writing, that there is no blemish to your payment history.

I check my report annually, and they have never blindsided me.

I've had good experiences in getting fraudulent charges taken care of. This has given me a "no fear" attitude towards using them.

All I can say is that they have proven to offer the "consumer protection" that they advertise. There is no way they can keep scammers from charging to your card. But so far they have insulated me from having to pay any of those bogus charges.

I'm a believer.

Mitch, I'm sorry to hear about your problem, that really sux. What Ted suggests, as well as a few others is more likely the culprit. Online transactions are the most secure of all, believe it or not.

I sell the e-business middleware that most companies and all the banks use for online transactions, top notch stuff. The chances your information was stolen as a result of an online transaction are close to zero. An employee of someone you did business with grabbed up the info somewhere, or information was inadvertently provided to a fraudulent company.

The email phishers are collecting a lot of credit info, as well as dumpster surfers (grabbing up old bill statements) and waiters/waitresses among other "services" type companies.

Had a woman call and curse us from one side to the other, says it was after she bought a T on OSO that her credit card got scammed in the internet. We have never had a problem as only one person is allowed to handle CC numbers and we transact on a secure server. It ended up that it was an inside job from an employee at the bank her credit card was from. The OSO purchase just happened to be weird timing.

I think the low limit card is the best bet, there will be no problem with getting the money back, it is just the idea it happened. You feel violated. There is no way to tell how this happened, the X would not do that, she and I never ever gambled or would gamble. I might take $50 to a casino and when it is gone I am done, this maybe once a year and it has been 2 years since I went. Your right OSO, it was dumb luck, I would never blame anyone for this since there is no way of knowing. Oh well, I am a veteran of Internet Fraud now. I have been deflowered:D From behind:eek: :D I am going to sell everything and become a minimalist, no more than the bare essentials, food, water and shelter. I am dropping out of society as I am paranoid and can't leave the house now due to this. NOT:D Life goes on:cool: Now back to the boat classifieds;)

The kid "Adam" in the article is a former friend of my son

he used to spend the night at my house playing on the computer with my boy

he was caught hacking into the local High School records and accessing all student information
(he had the ability to change grades ect..)

I found out he did this from MY house

I also found paperwork he and my son had printed out of the web on how to Hack into the FBI computer
(can you imagine if they had really done that??)

well needles to say that was the last time he was invited here

was 5 years ago

now it looks like he may spend some time in the slammer

point is if you read the article i attached you will see the technology is out there to scam you remotely

it is pretty scary
