To all at OSO Members:
After reading the attacks on some of the sites in the last week, I thought it would be appropriate to post this note. I am not usually one for long drawn out posts on discussion boards but I think this has merit, I hope you agree.
Since last Saturday Chief Powerboats has received hundreds of kind words, letters and thoughts from many across the boating community. We are thankful for all of the support. There have been a few negatives, but overall we truly expected that. I did not expect the personal attacks both in public and private. I will not expound on any of these things it is not worth the effort.
The idea originally behind Chief was to take some of the old race horses and re-furb them into a Modern looking Powerboat. The first one was mine, and if anyone would like, I would love to discuss with you the changes that were made and the new ones going forward. During the time frame of starting this, the idea became clear to all involved, that the traditional look and wave splitting ride mixed in with new technology and Lamination process would produce a winner. We then consulted with current owners, designers, technicians, material vendors, and any other experts we could contact. During the whole process very few people were told of the whole concept and the ones that were, know we thankful for keeping it quiet.
Chief is not designed to attempt an offshore speed record. Or are we in that fight. We are designing boats with the same traditional ride, similar looks, and safety being foremost in the thought process. A boat that turns like a standard vee design with steps and still giving a great top line speed and added efficiencies so the boat does not NEED to be over powered. Fast and fun, yet controlled.
Next, we started on lamination schedules and materials; the Best was found and is being used. The boats are built with traditional lay-ups using Hybrid Glass or Epoxy/Composite. Stronger and lighter than the old, yet the traditional lines, with a few more modern changes.
The web design was not finished due to many issues that delayed the process. It is my fault and I apologize for some of the confusion. We announced early and it caused a few bumps. We wanted to announce the Company only after the “fiberglass was on the floor”. We are ready and look forward to answering everyone’s questions. These boats are exciting and the best part the owner will be involved from start to finish. This truly is a custom boat.
We will be different from everything out there, including design and finish. There is a big volume of pride with in Chief and all of the Vendors involved. There is much more to be told. The story has just begun. Think of us as the “refined and redesigned” classic. Thank you for the support, no more bashing, we will not respond. Chief is here to make Boats, period.
We will post some more pics this week of the Offshore Vees.
