New Texas Law

Default New Texas Law

as of 1-1-04 in the state of texas you are required to display a registration decal( sales tax) even if the vessel is already USCG documented.Has anybody heard of this new law.

Nope, but my boat's not USCG documented, so it doesn't affect me.

NEW LAW!
Yes, In Texas if your boat is documented, you must show that you paid sales tax. I went to Parks and Wildlife and picked up my stickers. The fee was about $80.00 for a 2 year sticker. I haven't put them on my boat yet, since I don't have TX numbers, it might look kind of strange on the hull! I understand they will be enforcing this requirement.

news to me... has anyone verified this? i know the fl. coast guard always pulls me over and asks. but, never been bothered in galveston or austin

Two of my buddies got pulled over two weeks ago, they were given warnings, the game warden said they would be enforcing it next month.

Hey just buy a 116+ foot boat and you don't have a problem.

Seriously, are you talking about the registration sticker that is supposed to be posted next to the number on the hull? Or, is this something different? I registered mine in TX for the first time in November and they gave me the number, sticker (white sticker looks like **** on my red boat) with instructions that it had to be put 3.5" to the stern from the registration numbers. I assumed this was nothing new.

It is only new for documented vessels.
