Glad to hear no one was killed. Airgas has been involved in several plant explosions or diasters of late.
We had a very severe one in Tulsa last year at an Airgas
facility - linked to leaking bottles or their stored condition.
I hope these are just coincidences and not set.

There was also an Airgas in Cali that blew up early last year. I was searching around on the net for possible connections after the Tulsa explosion.
Airgas is taking a beating. Wonder what their insurance man thinks....

They did, the last link you posted was pretty good. They (media) at least talked to people that had a clue, the fire rescue chief and a spokes person from Airgas.
Airgas has close to 800 locations and is a public company. Thats why they seem to be in the spotlight. Fill plants are pretty safe but acetylene plants are another story. In the business they refer to acetylene plants as " those that have, and those that will" have an accident.

Compressed Gas is dangorus stuff!
There was a newspaper clipping at my local gas supply where a man asked his wife to pick up some gas for him on her way home. She put it in the trunk and when she got home she used the remote trunk button in the glove box. Apparently the acetylene had leaked a bit into the trunk compartment and the trunk latch motor set it off. The picture in the clipping of a full sized Ford with the rear half of the car demolished said a thousand words to me.

When I lived in CT, I was on the Vol. fire Dept., and I must say when this crap came in, I thought twice about going, we had an airgas in our district, and a propane storage facility across the street from it
. When we had emergensy evacuation drills, we used their facility, and did mock evacuations of the surrounding neighborhoods, many people didnt even know it was there!!!! There were never any real problems, but a few close calls at the propane facility.

I like the comment about the lady afraid to start her car up cause there might be an explosion. Well,,,,duhh. How does she think her car works. Turn the key, its gives a spark to a fuel-air mixture which then explodes. This moves the piston which eventually moves the driveshaft, tranny and her rear wheels.
Ok. I know what she meant, I just fealt like being a smart a$$ cause I hate when people make stupid comments like that.
