(ot) Cars in flight

I thought it might be interesting to see something other than boats flying. Sorry for the poor quality pic. But, if you look closely compare the two guys for scale you can see the serious air under this Mustang. (I was the one taking the pic with a crappy little camera hoping he didn't lose control.)

Anyone else got pics of their cars in flight?

HyperBaja 03-19-2004 05:26 PM

That is some serious air. How was the landing?

No pics, but..... A friend got a ticket at 75 in a 35, cop clocked him in the air, over rail road tracks, in a lifted Tacoma.

Maybe a little better pic. ???

bford1 03-19-2004 05:32 PM

The landing wasn't too bad. This was at about 110 mph. At 80 the landing was nice and soft but we couldn't get a good air pic. I'm sure I didn't capture this in the peak of flight either.

110MPH WTF?????????????????

Cars in flight. Try this Mec at Lemans. I count at least 4 back flip without scrubbing any speed!

You guys remember Le Mans, 1998-1999 (somewhere around there) The Mercedes flipping 3 times? Awesome thing to read about. (It may not even have been le mans.)

yep teh merceded was the one i was talkign about.

that car had some aerodynamic "anomolies" they discovered shortly after teh wreck. That program went away very quickly as they had to scrap the whoel concept of that design as i recall.

Great pics guys. Now, has anyone jumped their own car and got a pic?

BTW the Mustang drove straight as an arrow after that jump. No alignment needed. The light little 5.0 coupe was a perfect jump car. They sit high from the factory and unlike the GT have no ground effects.

On the same hill as the original pic my buddy (had one too many I guess) was supposed to drive my Trans Am (below) to meet me at the Marina and drop off the boat. When he got there I noticed that the T/A didn't sound right as he pulled up. He apparently jumped it a bit too high. I got under it to find two completely flattened headers, two broken motor mounts and a floor pan that was inside out. Those heavy, low, old cars don't jump so well. Needless to say I was not a happy camper.

Another guy tried the same jump going way, way too fast in his Audi A6 and he literally bent the whole car. The doors wouldn't open and the roof caved in. It also poured gallons of oil, coolant, tranny fluid, all over my driveway when he drove it back.

cool..now I know who to contact when I can't get a flight booked
