Nope. The leaves are pretty obvious. My suggestion is lots of calimine and benedril.
|
ITS BAD WHEN YOU GET IT ON YOUR BOYS......................
|
been doing the pink liquid route and - that dog ain't huntn' trying DOMEBORO , mother nature sure knew how to create some potent chit:D
|
Ha, I can roll in the stuff, eat it, smoke it you name it, it is just a weed. I picked so much of the crap growing up I became immuned to it. I got it twice and that was it. I had a friend who was highly allergic and while clearing some ivy on his house got it from taking it down and then again burning it. His head looked like a grape and he was in the hospital for 5 days due to not being able to breath well. I am allergic to absolutely nothing. This and i don't get sick because my parents didn't run us to the doctor unless we had a visibly broken bone (I had 6) or bleeding you couldn't stop. Otherwise you would heal and be stronger for it.:D
|
I take and fold up a paper towel and pour some bleach on it and then hold it on the poison ivy for a few minutes and within 2 to 3 days it is drying up.Only do it one time for 2 days or it will try it up so bad it will leave scares.I do this when the poison ivy first starts.
I know I'm crazy, but you will do anything to get rid of poison ivy when you have it. Tammy |

I know this sounds absolutely nuts, but shower with Tide liquid laundry detergent. Regular soap won't cut the oil from the leaves off your skin. Use the Tide and make sure you wash anything and everything you may have touched too. I got this from a pharmacist and it works. Using the Benadryl will help too.
|
Call your doctor and tell him you need some Predisone. It will clear up in 2 days. I get that sh!t each year and I have take pedisone and it works.
|
If Jim gets around poison ivy and gets it on his clothes and I pick his clothes up to wash them I get poison ivy.
|
I rode my bike up a canyon here in LA... I must have rolled through some of the leaves at the side of the road... got a flat at the top... and where the tire layed against my bare legs while I fixed the flat, I got the oil on my skin... by that evening it was all blistered and red... you could see the outline of the tire on the insides of my legs... horrible stuff...:(
|
Hell, I'm so alergic to the stuff I'll have it for just reading this thread. I HATE IT!!!
I've had that stuff in places that scientists won't go. My balls were so swolen once they looked like Softballs. I'm gonna go lay in the fetal position for awhile. Buck |
I also react the same to evergreens, junipers, etc. If it much larger than a 2" spot you need oral steroids for at least a week. Take Prednisone 60mg a day then decrease by 10mg each day, 60-50-40-30-20-10.
|
I always got it when hunting in the backwaters of the Mississippi River
Problem is you don't realize you have it until the damage is done...as someone else said, once you spread it look out  Best advice is to go to a Doctor to get a shot which usually clears it up. Some Doctors will not give you a shot if it is not that bad. |
Just reading this post I'll get it, I do the bleach thing if just a small spot, The pills are great the shot is better, I hear their is a sav or something out $40 to $50 thats supposed to work wonders.

The ones that say go to the doctor are right.I get it all the time. Unless it is real bad, I don't even worry about it anymore. When it IS bad, I go to the doctor and get the steroid. That is the only thing that really helps.
|
My dad told me he had it one time. He got it on his johnson. Said it swelled up and was itching like crazy. He told me if that itching had just gone away, he'd been set for life! :D
|
IvyDry works for me. Little blue and white tube. Dries it right up and usually goes away in a couple of days.
|
All You have to do Is call your doctor. I had it many times. He can either give the pills they spoke of and it will go away in a few days. One time I had so bad. He gave me a steriod shot and it was almost gone by the next day. It was an over dose of a steriod he said. but he can't always do that. I was leaving for vacation so he hooked me up. You need to see a doctor.
I did try what the other people said about bleach and tide and it does work. I tried everything. growing up as a kid I got it every summer. |
This also may sound nuts... BUT my aunt from the hills of VA always made us use White Vinegar and Salt, rub it in really good..... Burns like hell but it will be cleared up in no time!
|
Was in the hopital also,, swolen up so bad I looked like the Michelin man... they gave me some pills that you take 7 the first day then 6 then 5 and 1 on the last day, after that it was gone... nasty stuff..
|
Articles claim that is is not spread by scratching. I say that's crap.
Whether it works or not, I take a washrag and dunk it in alcohol and grind the itchy spot full of alcohol till it bleeds. Seems to get rid of it pretty fast... I did weedeat a half acre of ivy when I was younger and had to take oral steriods of some sort. |

After just about every weekend he comes in to work with pink arms (calamine lotion) because he gats poisn ivy every time he goes in the woods. |

great cure
Ask yor doctor for a prescription cream called Temavate or over the counter solution is Prep H- cuts down on the itching and dries up the rash. Prep H works great on kids if they get Chicken Pox

I found that swimming in a pool with a lot of chlorine or in salt water helps.

I look at it from 50' and get it- been going to Canada every year for 45 years and had it every year.
Prednisone works quickly but it is a steroid. Use only if you're covered head to toe. Bleach- not good for your skin- it can cause first degree burns if used too often. Swimming in a chlorinated pool has same effect. Anivy, Ivydry, calamine, caladryl are all drying agents and are effective for small areas only. If you're allergic as I am to the stuff, the prescription ointments work very well, and are a good option to doing the steroid treatment (I have had violent migraines from prednisone) The ones I take with me to Canada are Cutivate and Betamethasone. Both knock it out in a hurry. Molson and benadryl cure the other symptoms.:) |
There's a treatment out there called Zanfel. Comes in a small tube for about $35-$40. Wash with it in the shower and you start to heal within a day (as long as your poison ivy is topical, not in the bloodstream...the latter requires a shot or meds)
I had poison sumac so bad last fall it took 5 weeks to go away  I went back to my doctor after my first round of Prednisone..."well, gee, I've never had to give anyone two rounds of Prednisone to clear this up...that's funny..." "Yeah, thanks doc..." |

I figured I'd see a few pics of Uma Thurman in here by now !?!??!!? You guys are really slipping !!!:D
|
Yes, I too get it real bad. All I have to do is look at it. and I'm itching.
When I was little I recall getting it all over my body. I would be covered from head to toe with Caladryl lotion. Back then there weren't any pills you could take. Doc said Calimine or Caladryl is all there is and don't scratch. posted by rainmn Salt water cures everything. Growing up, it was the family remedy...skinned your knee? Go jump in the lagoon And like R Addiction said "You're lucky it didn't rot the limb off!!!" |
LMAO:D :D i could be dragged across the pavement about now to make the itch go away:crazy: funny thing is also got a sun burned back from sunday:mad:

I am now using a cream that doc. gives me & that works great. As soon as I see it coming up & start putting the cream on. When I was young I could roll in it & never get it. Sometime in my late 20's is when I first started to come down with it. |
Scratch it open and rub gas on it....All gone except for the smell:p
I don't do this...I'm an auto technician and have got gas on Poison Ivy and Waalaah...Gone:D |
