MUCH better, and worth the extra $, IMO.

I did the same thing. 100% worth it. The channels, depths, etc are much clearer with the color.

How do the various models do when it comes to refreshing? Can they keep up with a boat going 50 MPH?

I see the 182c has two models, one with a remote ant. and the other internal, which one is the one to get and why?

I have had both and currently use the Garmin 225 C. I think the color out shines the B&W when you are doing some serious navigating I.E. following charted bouys in tight channels. I think you can get a better and quicker picture of your position at a glance with the color unit. Just my two cents.

I recently bought a Garmin 176C a couple weeks ago. I could not fit a larger unit due to limited dash space. I am very pleased with it. I think the color is worth the extra dolars for sure. There are several outfits selling the package deals with the Blue Chart CD and the roadway CD alond with the automotive adapters and suck for a great deal. (I paid 475 after a rebate).

What about internal vs. external antennas? I would assume the external performs better and is more accurate.

mneal, where did you find that deal? I am currently considering that unit as well due to limited dash space.

Anyone with any experience on Lowrance's X-19C GPS Sonar???
Thanks

The X-19C is a very good unit and the model I chose for my new boat. The unit is a fish finder first, the GPS/Charting unit is an add on unit that integrates perfectly with the sonar. You can get loads of info on it at http://www.lowrance.com

This screen is very visibly in sun light but as a general rule black and white is better. The unit also takes "updates" that you download for free from the Lowrance web site. The update sometimes adds features or fix bugs just like in a PC. You can and probably should also buy Navionics Gold charts on media cards that the X-19 can take, they are much better and more detailed then the charts that come with the unit.

Good Luck
