GPS Color vs. B&W

I wanted to get a fixed mount GPS and it seems that the color versions are about twice the price. The functions on Garmins and Lowrance seem about the same except for the B&W vs. color. Are people finding that the color are easier to read while underway? Did anyone buy one and then switch - if so why?

I just switched from a Garmin 180 to a 182C.

MUCH better, and worth the extra $, IMO.

B&W is very hard to see in bright sun, color much better.

This is a topic I've been thinking hard about too. I will be pulling the trigger on a new GPS in the next couple of weeks. Haven't made up my mind on which one to get either. My budget is no more than $600, so I don't know if this is attainable or not.

I have both and have the opposite problem. Can't see the color in bright sun. That is the only reason I keep the B&W unit on the boat.

182C

Color even in bright light is excellent. Channels and shallow water are clearly recognizable due to color variations.

Get the color version if you can. Worth the $$$$.

Here is the one I'm leaning toward. Keep in mind I have NO clue what to look for. Does anyone see something in this unit that I should look out for? Can I use it for both land and water? I'm really clueless on this subject.

I would really like to be able to use it for the boat and truck if possible.

I currently run the Garmin 2006c. It is fantastic. The capabilities are amazing and I have been over 1000 miles and it has done a wonderful job. I wish I had the room for the 2010c. I highly recommend it.

Hard to go wrong with Garmin. Also like Lowrance, they have also been very good to me.

Any feedback on the one I linked?
