Puppy For sale

My puppy needs to go :(
He is a 7 month+ old Rat Terrier. Med breed. That means he is already full grown in hieght and weight.
Weighs about 13lbs +-
About 10-12inches tall.
All white with some tan spots.
He has had all shots to take him upto this winter.
Been fixed :(
He is a very kool dog to have, very affectionate and loves to play.
However my hours at work have changed and I am just not home enough.
It has become difficult for me to get home during lunch and leaving him for 13+ hours is not feasible :(
I do not have anyone else to take care of him while I work.

Trust me when I say I need him to go to a good home. He loves kids, but older ones. He likes to play rough as he is still a terrier and is strong.
He has never been aggressive nor a bitter.
Not a constant barker, but will let you know when someone or something is in the driveway.
He was born on August 23rd 2003
I bought him on Oct 25th of 2003
Asking $350 for him. That is what I paid for him and I will include all of his toys, dishes, food storage bin and kennel. Even his favorite comforter so he will have something to feel secure with in his new transition.

Feel free to call me @ 612-327-6988
Hugh

Hugh,, sorry to hear. I have to leave my Boxer from 7am until 5pm, I really hate doing it. When she was younger I had the kid next door take her out and play with her after school.. Hope you find a good home, he's adorable.. .. :(

Bad Girl 04-02-2004 07:42 PM

Come on, you want your money back???!!!!! If you love this guy, be glad to find him a new home. Hopefully a dog lover will come to his rescue, he'll have a good home, and you can sleep peacefully at night. Please be sure you get him into a good home. We've adopted several dogs over the years, it is a wonderful thing to give a loving being a good home.

I've already got 2 and have had as many as 3. Knowing we are finally getting our boat back in the water this year after three years of not boating, I am not willing to take on a third at this time. I agonize over my dogs' happiness. Knowing the cost of good, good, good dog sitting while we are boating, I won't take another now. But please, put the dog's happiness before your monetary recuperation.

MnFastBoat 04-02-2004 08:10 PM

bad girl, if I wanted my money back I would be asking for about $1200
If anyone looks around the average cost of a purebreed rat terrier is between 3-500
My statement of asking for what I paid for him was only intended to set a price as fair.
I am not asking any more for him then anyone else would.
I to agonize over his happiness, that is truly why I need to do this. his happeniss means more to me then leaving him at home alone for so many hours on end.
He needs and wants more. the new loving home I hope to find will provide this.
I am a dog lover as well, why else would I want something better for him then what I can provide.

Best of luck finding him a new home. Deb and I have four dogs, three rescued and a Doberman we named after my grandmother, "Bernise" (pronounced Ber-nis), and we are paying dearly for that. She likes to take anything she can grab, her favorite is the remote for the tv, prance around so we are sure to see she has it, then dash under our bed. If anything is missing, it's under the bed. Never ever chews it, just likes to "collect" and stash under the bed. I'll bet we have had to get that damn remote three thousand times since we've had her. Last night I got up to go get a coke, while she was sleeping under the bed, came back and she had snuck in without anyone seeing her, grabbed the remote and was back under the bed. Damn dog.

I spoke with Hugh this aternoon and even though he lives in Minnesota and we live in Michigan, my two boys are so excited we're going to fly the little guy in. In the past I've bought dogs from breeders as far away as New Mexico, the airlines have great cargo service for animals. His new name will be "Sunny" or Sun for short........guess you can figure that out.

OffshoreOnly 04-03-2004 07:38 PM

This belongs in the classifieds:D Unbelievable you can even exchange dogs on this thing. Congrats Dave

Wasabe 04-03-2004 10:05 PM

:(
I wish I could take him. I want a dog soooo bad. I'm working on convincing BG1 to let me have one. :( :(

I hope you find a good home. :(
He's soooooo darn cute. You know you get another dog for him as a companion... and have 2.

bouyhunter 04-04-2004 06:59 AM

I couldn't put a price on my dogs.
They are both mutts, none of that pure breed B/S
But they are the best - wouldn't sell them for anything.

boatme 04-04-2004 07:41 AM

Dave,

Did you negotiate down on the price ???

hey i shouldn't be the only guy you beat up :) :)

buckknekkid 04-04-2004 08:01 PM

I've raised 3 puppies for an agency that trains them to be guide gods. After as much as 13 months of raising them, I've had to part with each one. It sucks! :( Hang int there though and know that he is going to what sounds like a great home...plus if you're lucky maybe Sunny will take you for a ride on one of Dave's boats! :D

DaveSunsation 04-05-2004 07:10 AM

Hey All,

I'm a little worried here; I spoke with Hugh on Saturday and I had no problem with the price, he was looking into the cost of flying the little guy here as I mentioned and after three messages left, have not heard back from him, my boys are so excited it's all they can talk about. Any one know Hugh? I'd sure hate for this to fall through and break the news to my boys. We've already got a special place in the house for him and of course the security training lined up at the plant :-)

Anyone who talks with Hugh, please have him contact me again and give me an update.

Ms PatriYacht 04-05-2004 12:38 PM

Maybe we could arrange one of those tag driving deals, where we get a bunch of us to drive a 100 mile leg or so and before you know it he will be safe in MI.

We are in the midst of trying to arrange a Lake St Clair club, so if he winds up here in MI I will probably be able to introduce him to my 2 little boating yorkies:D :D

Yea, look at those eyes! There is no way a creature of this world would have those eyes! :hothead: Getting this pooch has been the absolute delight of our lives. We both look forward to coming home and playing with him. He's getting to the stage now where he really, really wants to play! He meets other dogs and wants to play with them, but most want non of it. Bring your lab on by, Chester has meet 3 others with great results!

OK, Here come the bad news for some, good news for me
First off I cannot believe the power of OSO, second I apologize to the Board Gods, guess this should have been posted in the OT section. Guess I never thought about it until after you commented. Sorry, I will try and remmeber that section.
Next, I have to say I am KEEPING Teddy :)
After much deliberation, checking into flights and transportation issues for Dave Sunsation I came to the conclusion that we are to stay together.
It all came down today when I took him into the Vet for his Travel check up. The airlines require a health certificate to transport. So I made the appointement yesterday. Today I am talking to hte receptionist while waiting. We talk about my thoughts and she was real curious why I would be getting rid of Teddy after only 5 months of have him. She commented on how I was always so happy and "parent like" when ever I was in for his shots and care. We talked about my hour change at work and how I felt bad about leaving him for so long during hte day and not having enough time at night.
She started to tell me about day sitters or someone just to come over and walk him. Started to think about this and then she looked at my records and noticed she lives in the same Townhome association as me :)
We come to find out she only works from noon to 7pm.
We came to an agreement that she will stop by at 11am to walk and play with Teddy for 30-40 minutes 3 times a week. :)
This will give him some interaction and also keep his boredome down.

Now that final hard news.
This means that Dave Sunsation will not be getting his guard dog "Sunny" :(
I do apologize for this. Both to you and your children.
If anything ever changes you will be the first to contacted. That is if you can forgive me for this. :(

NJgr8ful 04-07-2004 10:03 PM

??

Not really sure which I feel more .... happy for Hugh and his pup or sad for Dave and his kids .... :( Think I feel worse for Dave and the kids

This is much nicer.

I feel bad for the kids, but I hope the lady from the vet keeps her promise.

Dave, my family is in the puppy business, so if I can help in anyway, let me know:)

glad it worked out Hugh.
i know it had to be a tough decision.

I do too, to a certain extent.
Maybe Dave jumped the gun and told the kids after only a 10 minute conversation with me? :(
Never said he would absolutly get him.
Said I would look into transportion options.
I found transporting a live animal is not as easy as going to the airport and buying a ticket.
They require 24 hour reservations. Also a health certificate no older then 10 days.
Well that alone would not get it done with-in a week since I had to make a Vet appt and that was a 3 day wait. Options take time. Life takes time. I work 12-13 hour days. Its hard to take off work in the middle of the day for a vet appt. I lost 3 hours pay for this. NOt complaining, but maybe some need to realize just how hard it is to go through this.
Of course I could have gone over more options before posting him for sale. Live and learn from our troubles.
However, I do have to thank Dave because if he did not want to transport him by air I would have never gone to the vet yesterday and found a mid day sitter.
We all learn as life goes on, now I know that there are options for our four legged children :)
Last night I made some more calls. I find out that there are alot of dog sitter/walker companies in the Twin Cities. :)
Some are expensive, others are reasonable.
For some reason if my Vet Tech does not pan out, I have many many other options now.

DaveSunsation 04-08-2004 07:03 AM

Jumped the gun? If anything, you should not have posted your message to begin with. We both know when you asked me if I had any problem with the price I said not at all. Sure sounded like we had an agreement at that point other than exploring what frieght charges would be. Then when you did call me back and told me $180 to fly him in, I said no problem, then about a special crate, again no problem, then you say a girl at work wanted him and wanted to check with her again, then why the post to begin with. While I've not broken the news to my wife and kids I am disapointed in the way you posted with unclear intentions on your part.

Nontheless Hugh, Teddy sure seems like a great dog and if keeping him in your life makes your world a happier place, great and hope it goes for many years.

I'm sure I'll find another dog for the boys, wife and me.

Padraig 04-08-2004 07:32 AM

The thing that I have not noticed in this discussion is what would have been best for the dog. Maybe it is time to sit back and look at it from his eyes. Dogs are pack animals and do not do well if left alone most of the time. The dog walker is a great idea but if you work 12 - 13 hours a day how much interaction is there? What is the possability that a year down the road you will decide that it is not working? A 5 month old pup will adjust to changes quicker then an adult. If he develops behavior problems, because of being left alone and not socialised, it will be very difficult to place him.

I am not saying that these things will happen and I am not trying to say that you shouldn't keep the pup. All I am saying is try to do what you think is best for the pup.

Cord 04-08-2004 10:03 AM

Dave-I know that the kids are going to be disappointed, and you are a little miffed. But don't you think Mn made the most polite about face that he could? I'm sure he regretted having to break the deal and he does make a direct apology to both you and your children.
