What is the #7 Drive

Ok, I have only heard about these and never saw one in person.

What is the difference between the #6 and #7 drive. Do they even make them? If they make them, then why aren't they used?

Someone please fill me in?

A Six Drive looks like this:

They are quite common in high horsepower applications, but they are quite expensive.

I've never heard of a 7 drive.

Gary,
How about a IV top and a III bottom,
or visa- versa, maybe a VI with a
alpha or bravo lower ;)

No, seriously, I remember seeing an
old merc. service manual for a VII drive.

As I recall, it was a # 6 with a larger
lower unit.
Kind of like what the TR/TRS or bravo 1/2
comparison.

It was marketed for larger cruisers, etc.

I have a 1992 Merc service manual that covers SSM VI and SSM VII drives. It's up in the attic at the moment, tho, so I can't tell much more right now.
