Cedat Point OH

Who has gone?
Looking for info Seems like a great summer vacation
Might even do this over LOTO
Few questions?
Is it feasible to tow your boat there?
Looks like alot of water to enjoy when done with the rides.
How long does it take you to 'do' the entire park?
All possible rides? is 3 days in the park sufficient?
Looking at a day there, 3 at the park at least 2 on the water and the last day returning home.

Is this possible in a weeks time with 2 kids along?
Or should it be more time?

geatest amusementpark in the WORLD

topthrill dragster 410 ft high

Sandusky/Cedar Point

I have a house on Catawba Island, minutes away by water to Cedar Point. This is the largest boating community in the world. Endless water, countless waterfront restauarnts and bars, some of the partyingest places you will ever see. Most compare Put In Bay to Key West.

2-3 days at the park, 1 day at Put In Bay, I day at kelly's Island. Bring your drinking shoes. Park your truck, you will be boating to all these places. Guaranteed, no land vehicle necessary for the 3 days. There is a water front Friday's built right into the Radisson. Heck, we even have a McDonald's with docks!

You can pull your boat right up to the back of the Radisson (dock for free) stay at the Radisson and boat right to Cedar Point's front gate (within 200 ft walking distance, again, dock for free!).

Ramps everywhere.

Come join the fun!

HyperBaja 04-09-2004 05:09 PM

I went. Hate amusement parks also hate heights. Loved Kelleys and PIB. Going again this summer.

FFO 04-09-2004 06:33 PM

Sounds great
Kids are not mine, some friends have 'thought' about going. They have 2 kids. 5 and 3
Think it might be too much for them being so young. Let alone not many rides for them.
But I want to go. Might just have to bite the bullet and spend the extra $$ to be single.

If I go I would want 4-5 days out there.
What kind of cost involved out there.
The brochure I have shows rooms between 150-250
so that alone would be 600-750. Another 100 for park admission for 3 days.
how far is everything by boat? would 200 gallons be enough? Running twins in a 28' Cat.
How rough does this area get? Can you stay on the boat at the CP Marina? Maybe not the best for my style boat, but a cost option.
looking at 2 grand for the trip :(

What is the heat factor out there? Maybe camping is an option :)

bouyhunter 04-10-2004 05:25 AM

I grew up about an hour away from CP.
It was a once a year destination.

The best time I ever had was taking my boat about 5 years ago.
I camped in the marina. The marina has a private entrance to the park = NO LINE to get in.
you can get to the newest rides early because the entrance is halfway through the park.
Also, - midday when it get's really busy you can go back to your boat and hang out, drink cheap beer and relax.

Every night at closing CP put's on a fireworks/laser show. This takes place right in front of the marina - watch it from your boat.

And the Islands are great! if you go to PIB, weekdays are OK for kids, but on the weekend adult's only!!! - I've only been arrested there once....

As for the water - it can get pretty snotty out there, but it's a short trip to the islands. Typical Lake Erie, you can leave one place and the water is like glass, and 3-4 hours later you are running in a 4-6' tight chop.
Most times the water is good, maybe i just spent too much time on that water and remember the few bad days before all the good ones.

Do the trip, $2000 is more than enough to cover you, if the weather is good you may even want to head up to Detroit or Pelee Island - It's really not that far and some good cruising.

Have a good time.

Airpacker 04-10-2004 08:20 AM

I'll let ya know. Doing a week there in july with the boat :)

glassdave 04-10-2004 08:42 AM

looks to me like an OSO get together in the making. im in

cgarrett 04-10-2004 08:58 AM

All I can say is go!

If your going to "The Point" you can stay on your boat and you will be steps away from the park. Make reservations because it can get pretty busy in the summer and stay at the Cedar Point Marina. They just bought out The Harbor Marina and now call it Castaway Bay Marina and it is not within walking distance to the park. The Castaway Bay water park is not opening until November 2004.
If you take the kids there is plenty for them to do in the park.
A suggestion I'm going to make is that you could keep your boat in the marina and stay in one of the cabins at Lighthouse Point. From there you can walk to your boat with no problem.
Check out Cedar Points website.
http://www.cedarpoint.com/

There are other marinas and places to stay in the area and are only a short distance and you will save some money.

Hotel and a place for your boat but I'm not saying cheap.

Website for Sandusky.

You have to go to Put in Bay.
http://www.put-in-bay.com/
http://www.putinbay.com/

Spend a day or night at Kellys Island.

http://www.kelleysisland.com/

I like staying here at Kellys.

That should keep you busy for a while.

I live in view of Cedar Point, keep my boat in Sandusky Bay too. Its a great time in the summer. I would suggest doing Cedar Point on weekdays and the Islands on the weekend. If costs are an issue, ive got a spare bedroom your welcome to stay with us. The 28 cat will be fun during the week but deadly on a weekend unless you run early in the morning. Ive got plenty of room on the cruiser too if this turns into a cedar point oso gig.

CAP071 04-11-2004 08:53 AM

I just sent for the info pack from the park. I'm going to head out there this summer I gotta ride that ride

Scott 04-11-2004 09:39 AM

"Top Thrill Dragster"

Mary and I were like little kids getting off and running back to beginning of the line one Sunday afternoon. The ride is too much fun:D

If you stay anywhere in the park CP offers a shuttle service that will get you to where your going fairly quick.
(we use it a lot coming back from Fridays in the back of the park)

There are a lot of Motels close to the park entrance that should be cheaper check the Sandusky web sites in the previous post.

The washing machine (lake Erie) can get rough from time to time but lays down pretty quick plus you still have Sandusky Bay to tool around in. The city of Sandusky boat ramps are fantastic and well maintained $5.00 in and out.

I feel very fortunate that I have this beautiful area and body of water to boat in. If any of you have even thought about the area please give it a try for a vacation or boating get away that you will hopefully want to make part of you yearly plans.

No I don't work for the Sandusky area visitors and travel bureau.:D

tizbad4 04-11-2004 12:43 PM

Hey Jerry, Empty your pm box!!! Going to Jamaica in one week and back in two. (D-Day) Don't tell Joany but I can't wait to get back to boat here!!! Coming to bachelor party?

From what I hear, you should feel very fortunate to still have a dock at Cedar Point!

pick a day and chose your weapon . . . i once rode the corkscrew 36 times in a row :D :D :D

Bad Girl what does that mean. were they going to eliminate the docks or somthing. i know they are pressed for room out there these days what with the park always building new stuff

MitchStellin 04-11-2004 07:49 PM

I'm in, it is a 5 hour drive from here and the boating sounds great. Lets make this happen, what do we need to do? Lets have someone there set it up and we can all call in to pay. Lets make this happen, I'm sure I can get the Foul to go. This sounds like a riot.

MnFastBoat 04-11-2004 08:04 PM

Well I am liking this more and more.
Get an OSO gathering and I do not have the need to tow my boat out. :) Would I be able to catch a ride on someone else's boat? :)
More then willing to help with expenses
Might even take Formula up on his generous offer.
725 miles for me, but most know i have driven more miles for less reasons :)

When are we going to set this up?

Otherwise if I go on my own it will not be until Sep.
Probably around the 1st to the 10th :) My birthday present to me :)
However, I might be able to be talked into something different :)

glassdave 04-11-2004 08:14 PM

see what ya started MnFast . . . . and you thought you were go'n on a quiet little' ol vacation to the islands :D :D :D

Sounds like a worthwhile vacation to me :)

If I wanted quiet I would go on a blowboat ride. :(
Not to a place that has 100mph thrill rides next to the water :)

glassdave 04-11-2004 08:57 PM

cant argue with that Mn  this has all the make'ins of a great OSO weekend. :D

mitch, actually Scott has all the info on the in's an out's of that area. i will talk to him at our next boat club meeting.
