Document a boat

does anybody know the requirements and process to get a boat "documented" instead of applying numbers to the hull?

Takes about 6 months then another 60-90 days with the state of Missouri to get the state sticker.

Make sure you get a certified transcript of title from the coast guard before you send your stuff to the state because they will not accept the certification of documentation.

I had marine title do mine cost about $300 I think. There are a couple of marine title co at LOTO that do it too.

Sounds like a hassle. Is it?

If you document do you still have to register it with the state you live in???.

is that reqiured for a boat with a state title?
just sent my stuff off to both the coast guard and missouri.

In missouri you do and you have to pay an in-lue tax based on the sales price of the boat.

Hassel..yes...worth it to save on some sales tax..yes.

Still waiting on the state. I can get a temp tag from Mo good for 60 days.

IL must also because the boat came from there and had a sticker on it too and it was documented before.

Per the letter I received from MO

Previously documented boats:

"If a vesssel was documented by the previous owner the new owner must provide proof that the united states coast guard documentation is completed in their name. A certified copy of the abstract of title in the new owners name must be submitted."
