...local dealer speculated just under 50k for a hardtop and then add in due to prep; paint protection; mats; ...you know....up to 4-5k more until demand tapers off....waiting lists are filling or filled...supply and demand...a 2000 Ferrari Modena is selling for $235,000.00 while a new one if you are ON the "Chosen" list goes for $190,000.00 new for a 2004

...Enzo always said..."We make 3 less cars then there is demand for" and no more and no less.

If Ferrari's were put together on an assembly line...they would be called Masarati's (which Ferrari owns) and in which Ferrari engines are installed and a 2 seater is just under 100k....

...Supply and Demand...

...on another note...I got to check out an OL last week...amazing stuff...and the owner I spoke with says you can pound em day and night and the interior takes a licking and keeps on ticking...great stuff!

HyperBaja 04-17-2004 08:34 PM

Ferrari is a bit different than supply and demand.

Go to (my second favorite forum) www.corvetteforum.com and click on the "C6" section. You'll find discussions ad nauseum about pricing, availability, options, etc.

Why not do something different? Every Tom, Dick & Harry (and mid-life crisis man) will be driving a C6...

V8 Kompressor - The Dual-Personality Powerhouse

The 5.5-liter supercharged V8 engine with a sport exhaust coupled with the Formula One style steering-wheel-mounted gearshift buttons, AMG-developed four-stage Airmatic air suspension and AMG 18-inch twin-spoke polished alloy wheels assure an unforgettable driving experience.

Each E55 AMG engine makes a towering 469 hp and a massive 516 lbs.-ft. of torque, making easy work of the 0-60 mph sprint in just 4.5 seconds. Its 5.5-liter, supercharged and intercooled V8 engine is hand-assembled one at a time by expert technicians at Mercedes-AMG in Affalterbach, Germany and is bench-tested to ensure top performance. The sturdy V8 engine uses a positive-displacement, Lysholm-type (or screw-type) belt-driven supercharger with scrolling aluminum rotors, providing usable boost virtually from idle speed, and generates a maximum of 11.6 psi (or 0.8 bar) of boost pressure.

The Kompressor V8 also uses a specially developed air-to-water crossflow intercooler located in the "V" of the engine block beneath the supercharger. The intercooler reduces intake air temperature, creating a denser charge and further boosting power. Other developments for the Kompressor V8 include a fast-acting electronic throttle, revised cam timing, high-rate valve springs and lightweight valves.

Also remember, these arent a car just ANYONE can go and buy. A drug tycoon decides he wants a Ferrari Enzo (imagine this is before they are out). He contacts Ferrari, they do some research on him, and find out he sells a lot of drugs. Not getting one from us. So, Johnny Business gets ahold of one, and our drug buddy wants it, driving up demand, and the price.

I think we should drill alaska.

WHAT??? I just finished up a 26 page paper on why we should switch to biodiesel because we will run out of oil discovery by 2050, as well as some other reasons (economic, environmental). I never heard anything about less then 1%. Could yo pease send me where you heard that.

Oh, and i LOVE vettes. I have a '92 6-speed conv. my dad got an '03 50';th anniversary. the gt40 looks awesome, its 1.5x the size of the original but has the same lines. and about 1/5th the price of a 60's model.

oil reserves are "known existing estimates" of available oil....if we don't go into Alaska and drill to FIND reserves at least......where much of the worlds oil is at from some of our echo tests...along with ocean drilling....then yea..we will run out of oil....the plan is to hang onto our stuff till they run out of their stuff..90% is in the Middle east right now...and heck with the nuclear tech we have now for building safe reactors..we could easily make enough electricity/hybrids... TODAY and if necessary mandate that all cars run on electric/gas backup....switch back to locomotives for freight hauling and save huge on fuel and probably cut demand for oil by 80% overnight...with the stroke of a pen...it's really not a big deal...some would do that before sending troups to fight over oil...take a "let 'em keep it attitude"...the more we show resolve to fight for it the more valuable it becomes...the more political power they have and the less control we have...keep gas for pleasure use..RV's...flight....boating...commercial purposes..and get the average Joe on an electric pony to and from work...you will see how fast they can get a car switched to a hybrid and if mass produced the HP can probably make huge advancements....remember when they said they couldn't comly with epa standards in the 70's..and now with the requirements we have 500 Hp cars...we can do anything we want if forced to...unfortunately thats what it takes...

Ok back to the subject of Vette's...........

Man if you like the vette, get it. You can argue this up and down but it's pretty much known...if you want an American car that will run with the best of the euro's for way less....get the vette. And if you want to compare HP numbers.....heck throw a Supercharger on it and you'll still be way less then the euro's. The vette is a bargain for the performance that you get.

yea..that's me Mike...at work I often have 2 computers following the market options...a couple lines open to discuss strategy....other ventures going on as well...just the way i am and pretty successful too! I personally don't like the idea of sending my vette to Lingenfelter or others to make it what it should have been to begin with....it will have great exterior looks in 2005 having "leaned" on Pinninfarina a lot...I don't like the c-5.....it still needs much more work in the cockpit to bring it up to snuff...ever get up close to a new Viper interior or see the fit and finish of a Viper....very high quality materials..lots of work needs to be done to detail...400Hp is great as standard fare....it is a great car but dosen't appeal to more sophisticated well educated people....they buy 911's...360's and AmG's or M-3's....this car is the average Joe's American sports car...not an exotic...or a big head turner...wait till c-6itis calms down and everybody and their brother owns one...the mystique declines...just the way it is...everybody who owns a party store will have one...it's an image thing...my old 911 was a head-turner...everybody wanted a ride in it...in my Vette...nobody really said much...with me it's about attention! That's why I am leaning towards a 38' gun...everybody wants one or a ride in it...part of the boat is the legacy..can't put a dollar figure on it...sorry for the honesty I'd buy a Boxster S first...2005 spy pics..guess I look at it as the Bayliner of Sports cars..I owned one and it's nothing special....too common..and why does everybody call it the "c-6" it's a vette with a restyling jobbie

Cobra Marty....where the heck did you find a deal like that WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

LPA2106 04-19-2004 02:40 PM

C6 engine:
Latest is the Generation-IV, all-aluminum engine with cast-iron liners, its displacement bumped from 5.7 liters in the Gen III/LS1 to 6.0 liters in the new LS2. The new engine makes a fat, square 400 horsepower (up from 350) and 400 pound-feet of low-rev torque and yet spools to a lofty 6500 rpm. It packages neatly into the same space as the LS1 but shaves 15.4 pounds. Stroke remains 92mm (3.6 inches). The bores are hogged out to 101.6mm (4.0 inches) from 99mm (3.9 inches). The compression ratio is up from the LS1's 10.1:1 to 10.9:1 in the LS2, putting additional squeeze on the intake charge to improve brake-specific fuel consumption. Powdered-metal forged connecting rods spin on a cast nodular-iron crank; pushrods.

...just one question....

why is the C6 a pushrod engine? high tech equals DOHC
-Porsche
-Benz/AMG
-BMW/M3
-Lamb's
-Viper is OHV
-Hondas are OHV
-Ferrari's
-Toyotas
-Maybe the C7? I am just "tired" of an auto having rods...I like the DOHC/Multivalve approach much more...most "track" cars are...

That's were the money is saved...pushrods....older tech..it works and it can handle it...but the rest of the world is much more engine savy...almost 11:1 comp ratio is interesting ...that I like

Well, I earned an MBA (I have nothing to base my sophistication on), and I didn't buy that M3 because I bought my wife a 528 (a few years back), and I didn't want to of the same kind of car, so I bought a Vette. I must have just whished away 9 years of college by buying the Vette. Ya know, I feel stupider ever since I done got that thur Core Vet.

When LPA2106 comes down from that high he's on, he's going to be hurtin' :D

As far as C6 prices, www.corvetteforum.com or www.z06vette.com are my two faves. I went on line, got a deal on a car (a C5 Z06 last spring), then went locally to get them to match or beat that. If I didn't, I'd have had one shipped in. I did, so I bought "locally" (an hour away). As Hunter used to say, "works for me."

Good luck. If you like it, buy it. I found dealers that would not budge on cars (like the 50th ann car), so I walked away. Eventually, I found dealers that wanted to, get this, SELL cars.

What's the big Vette place in Motown? Les Stanford? Might try them too. I never contacted them.

Mark

LPA2106 04-19-2004 03:26 PM

..like hitman says I am a douche bag:fish:

Probably an attitude problem because I was unhappy with my 1980 Vette....had to have the "engine done right" for a few more grand....suspension too..bad paint job..fit and finish was horrible....handling was questionable....I was sucked in ...should have test driven it

....they are a lot better now..my C6 wish list is similar to the editors of many magazines out there...a lot more could have been done to the interior...and a DOHC engine @ 500Hp option should be here YESTERDAY

...I take back my abrasive words...once burned I guess...

....it's a lot of bang for the buck for sure...but not a Viper killer....A Cobra pony car will give it a good run for it's money...

...marketing at GM should have the new "Z06" ready to go....all it would take is throwing on a blower....ask Bill Ford if that can be done...

...guess we have to be nice to the 'vette...what other "cars" does GM have that are performance oriented?

...a word to the wise...don't test drive a Boxster S or 911 or 911 Turbo or Modena....or my ordered E55 AMG

read a few words about my AMG sedan:

"With all this technology and German craftsmanship, you'd expect a certain level of performance but this is overkill. Stab the accelerator and the car rockets forward with such thrust it frightens small children and puppies. Even from a dead stop, the E55 surges forward with such urgency, such abandon that you have to resist the temptation to let your foot off the gas. Then again there's that other half of your brain (you know, the half that likes fast bikes, troubled women and megasize roller coasters) that keeps yelling, "Faster! Faster!" As the car hits third gear, there is a definite kicked-in-the-gut feeling as its rpm and speed climb so quickly the speedometer looks like the second hand on a wall clock. As the speed builds, so does the mechanical symphony. The worked motor growls and the exhaust snarls with real race-car enthusiasm. "This is a street car?" I found myself asking — then, as it became obvious that the mighty engine would continue to pull hard in all gears regardless of speed, the only word I could get out was "Awesome." Too bad the 1980s watered down that word to the point that it has become meaningless because this car is truly awe-inspiring". With a $200 chip it goes almost 200mph...

...for 75k

It is scary compared to anything I have ever driven...go to a Benz dealer they are ENCOURAGING FREE TEST DRIVES THIS MONTH!

...do it for the fun of it...

a buddy of mine sent me this e-mail from the supposed chevy boys...

"At first, the c6 is to have dual cams, not ohc. It will be OHV, and the cams will switch dynamically.

A few years into the run, it is to have a completely camless engine. Supposedly dynamic calculation."

article on camless engines:

hope this makes up for my previous sour attitude...

Hmmm

Im guessing after that it will be hydrogen powered:eureka:

LPA2106 04-19-2004 07:55 PM

SO far it looks like BMW is the leader in Hydrogen/Gas hybrid engines...making almost 200HP on hydrogen...most US Hydro puppies are lower HP

Running on hydrogen, the 745h produces 184 horsepower and can achieve a top speed of 215 km/h (133 mph). The cruising range is 310 km (190 miles). Added to the 640 km (400 miles) range of the normal fuel tank, the 745h can go 950 km (600 miles) between fill-ups.
