Anyone planning on running to NYC to see the QM2? Looks like I'll be doing a made rush to get the boat running for the departure on Sunday of the QE2 and QM2. This is one big boat.

Wow...Beautiful and huge.
The reports I read said that she only cleared the Verazzano bridge by 13 feet.  |
I saw on the news that at high tide it clears the Varenzano Bridge by only 14 feet
Have to close the dance floor so the boat dont rock :D |
WOW! Now THAT is a BIG boat!
|
I'm going to work on the boat tonight and tomorrow morning, everything should be ready to go. I'll get some pics and post them here.
Hey Panther, want to take a run? |
Pic # 2 is cool.

Hey,
I wish I could but I have a wedding to attend on Sunday, and have a dinner to go to on Saturday afternoon. I have been working some bugs out of the boat most of the week as well. I had some rusted terminals on on of my dist. pickups and it was cutting out the ignition over 3000 rpms. Did you hear me running out there Mon, Tues, and Wed? Some people told me they heard me running in Red Bank and thought I was on the Navesink, but I was running on the Shrewsbury. I guess the noise travels further without all the leaves on the trees, hahahahahah! Panther |
I read that she is 3 times the size of the Titanic.
|
She is sticking 100 feet into the Hudson..... Pier 92 isn't big enough!!!!
Beware.... Police and Coast Guard security is very tight!!!!! http://www.nycvisit.com/content/inde...TOKEN=97818464 |

But she is faster and she is American :D

Does the S.S. United States still hold the Blue Riband?
For those who have asked if the SS United States still holds the Blue Riband (she does) the link below will give complete details. Although she has lost the record for an East bound voyage--the easier of the crossings because the Gulf Stream wind is behind the vessel--to ships of questionable qualification (they were all ferry hydrofoils of less than three hundred feet in length) she still holds the more difficult West bound record. Because ships are the largest moving objects built by man, the record of the fastest should not be trivialized by vessels of less than impressive size. For this reason, the foundation has formed a commission to look into creating a trophy that would be called the SS United States Trophy and would be awarded to ships of over 500ft in length and over 25,000 tons--with keels--who hold the record of "fastest" in the world, in addition to holding the Blue Riband in both directions. Here's the link for more info: http://www.blueriband.com/Ships/ships.html - Robert Westover http://www.ssunitedstates.org/faq.htm#q3 |

If she sails again I'm booking a trip.
But I just read that the company put her on hold due to a storm over in Europe that wrecked a NEW ship being built  OSO on SS United States Cruise 2006 :D |

She is leaving on Sunday night with the QE2, it will be the QE's last voyage. The QM2 will return 13 more times this year and 26 times next year.
Supposed to be a big fireworks display Sunday night with the two boats as they pass the Statue of Liberty. |
Capo, you're turning this into an Apache thread!! :p

work called and woke me up now I can't fall back to sleep. I may head to Jersey shore to look at a few boats today. Just can't decide on a speed boat or a cruiser
|
You don't have a boat yet? I wish I had one of each. Cruisers are nice but go-fasts turn heads. I had a Carver aft cabin we lived on for 6mo while we built house. That did it-sold it and took a break.
