I see it coming.... Than Trader.

I like both now it comes to, what's it worth? Maybe an older cat? Nope, was told the cats are too high of a risk. 2-3 deaths in the past year in the Cheasapeake. Insurance love and hate it, you can't win.

I pay $300 and change a year through BoatUS.
The boat is a custom built hull (1 of a kind) v-bottom
200hp Outboard Merc
28ft long from bow to engine
Top speed currently 52mph

I had to send pictures.
The only question they asked was if I raced it or not, which I do not, but I do participate as Rescue.

The boat is pictured just left of hear as my avatar.

Heard on the news last week some A$$ hole legistator in NJ wants to make insurance manditory , like I don't pay enough car ins. already.
If you figure out what it costs per mile for boat insurance , it's already 10 times what car insurance is.

Having handled numerous insurance claims for clients, I would not recommend anyone misrepresent the horsepower or the speed of the boat to lower the rate. If it is discovered, the policy is null and void and there is no coverage. Most of the time you get away with a lower payment over the years and comply with the bank's requirement of maintaining insurance. However, in the event you are involved in a serious accident, with large property losses and/or significant personal injuries, you can bet that most insurers will thoroughly ivestigate the clam and use anything they find to void coverage.

I have had very interesting depositions of insurance company experts talking about the purported HP gains of engine modifications. Knowing the science from my own engine building/repairing days, I've had them conceed that they truly cannot state the horsepower without having the engine dynoed. And, that sometimes there is horsepower loss with a modification. I've prevailed in the coverage dispute claims; however it is a great risk to take for insurance coverage when you need it the most. I wouldn't do it.

You can listen to Lenny Richileau of American Marine Insurance (www.yachtquote.com) in the archives of www.talkoffshore.com. His interview is very enlighting to those insuring in the high performance market. Lenny also takes some calls from listeners and answers some emails.

The interview was this past Tuesday night and is now available to listen to "On Demand" at www.talkoffshore.com in the archives.

Enjoy the show, it will give you plenty of answers to questions you have and ones you never thought about.

$288/yr for $100 deductable. 23' Velocity 7.4L. First quote from USAA was $894/yr because boat went faster than 62MPH. Called back a week later and they asked how fast, I told them 60MPH and it dropped to $288.00.
