Re: Are OSO Old Timers Leaving?
hi everybody, long time no post
can i consider myself old? |
Re: Are OSO Old Timers Leaving?
Mr. Gadgets is still around.... he's probably busier than the average OSO'er. Real job, drive re-building job on the side. He pokes in here occasionally.
Now that DJD sold his cigarette to Crazyhorse, he only has the Post and we all know that's not an OffshoreOnlyboat, right?? Just kidding Dave. :D |

Re: Are OSO Old Timers Leaving?
im a johnny come lately myself, only been around for a year or so. i have to say, i enjoy the board, and the people that are around most of the time. where else can you come for some serious boat talk, break some balls, and actually get the meet the people you chat with and get to know. regardless of the issues, its a good time with good people. if you dont like it dont read it. right or wrong......Mr. Wonderful oh yeah, cuda is really old and he is still around, with his 12 boats and his 3 dogs........

Re: Are OSO Old Timers Leaving?
As one of the very original members....even before registration came into being, I have to say that I dont find as much interesting anymore....same people seem to post alot with not much to say...so i come by everyday and read the posts .....I dont post much but am always here..:D
Where's "newspeed" when you need him....a few of you get that reference...lol Just so everyone knows...if you see a Join Date of Oct 2000 (like mine), then that person is one of the original members of this board when it went to registering. |
Re: Are OSO Old Timers Leaving?
OSO has grown at an rapid pace, and I applaud the owners for keeping up with it.
Unfortunately, the number of "members" is secondary to the number of active and happy participants. A small percentage of members are willing to state their opinion, and a high percentage of the members pay to read the opinions and input of others. I know, because I was a "lurker" for awhile. Unfortunately, those that have strong opinions, politically correct or otherwise, have found themselves less and less welcome here. If the active and passionate posters go away..........what is there for the paying lurkers to read? Food for thought- |
Re: Are OSO Old Timers Leaving?
Without checking in everyday I would get way behind in what's going on in the industry that I love and make my living in. It's just harder to find the time to post when you are a boat dealer during boating season. I always post more during the winter. :)

Re: Are OSO Old Timers Leaving?
I guess I would fall into the old group...
I have been through a few OSO upgrades and changes, and I am still here... ;) Everyone brings happiness to the OSO board. Some when they come....and others when they leave..... ;) :D :D :drink: |
Re: Are OSO Old Timers Leaving?
Well, those that leave due to "issues" can stay away. I have been on this Board for almost 4 years, not once have I been in a heated discussion over anything. Those that get pi$$ed off and leave are for the most part trouble makers and we don't need them. I can see no reason what so ever to be unkind, bash or belittle anyone, no matter what they drive, do ,say or are. There is no place for this attitude here and that is just plain it. I am on every day, I have been very busy at work and have just enough time to take a peek and maybe Post. I have more time at night but the boat is keeping me very busy. It was nice to live vicariously thru you guys when I did not have a boat but now that I do I am getting my fix right in the Garage. Quite simply those that are here and the new ones that join are a great group of people. I can't see why I or anyone would want to make "waves" with anyone here, it is just not right. I am here for the long run and although I hate to see people go there is always someone to take his/her place. :)

Re: Are OSO Old Timers Leaving?
[QUOTE=32fever]Shorgasm, Allan4 and I all ran away to Kalamazoo, MI and are now Elvis groupies :D:D:D
QUOTE] Hehehe...shhhh..that's supposed to be our little secret (wink) (no smilie wink anymore). BTW, you look like a knobber in your Elvis suit.... :D I am still around, but pretty busy with work stuff and building our website. Still really enjoy being a part of OSO...lots of great memories and people, etc..glad I have been around to watch it grow... :) |
Re: Are OSO Old Timers Leaving?
I think I'm an old timer. I don't have much to contribute because I consider myself still a baby in the boating world. I make a habit to stop in everyday and see what's up. I've met people thru this board that I never would have come into contact with before. Like I've stated before, I remember back when I was lurking the general membership was wondering who was going to the the 1000th member. I just missed.
As has been said previously, there is life off of the internet, there have been periods over the last 3 year where I did not have time to look at the board for months. I REFUSE to look at OSO during the day. I can't mix my job and my hobby. p.s. Allan4 - learn how to quote - phucktard :D |
Re: Are OSO Old Timers Leaving?
I am the FIRST registered member after the founder ... check in most everyday and post a couple of times a week.
So, are OSO Old Timers leaving ? ... no .... no reason to  G  |
Re: Are OSO Old Timers Leaving?
....and what about Cigwillie?
Oh, wait, that's me and I'm still here! |
Re: Are OSO Old Timers Leaving?
Well, I've been around long enough to remember the original format.....like an out-line for a college term paper, remember that one, Stinson?
Seems like I remember the first controversy was the fact that Jennifer Cohen(sp) had a beer BEFORE a poker run, WOW, like we ain't NEVER done that before. It's been alot of fun around here and it's still the only site that I go to, I don't have time to look at ALL the **** out there. There are ALOT of nice genuine caring people on here that like to go boating, but look at the nature of offshore powerboats, BIG egos, not trying step on anyone toes, but let's face it, these are big expensive boats that people work hard for and take EXTREME pride in and like to show-off. So, there will naturally be some "head-butting". SS930, I agree with you on the APACHE thing, I know that I take great pride in my boat and appreciate what everyone else does to their's, but all the **** that has come about since the sale of Warrior Powerboats to Thad is udderly rediculous. I agree, the information here is well worth the price of the top membership, but I can't see the annual fee driving people away. I mean for the pics alone it is worth the money. I don't know what is driving them away.
Roby Seriously though, many things have changed over the years. Now being 5 to 6 years later when this thread was started, who is left standing now ??? Yes, I still peek in once in a while and contribute because many of the people here take the time to post a comment or two on the pics I bring to the Forum. I tend to stop posting pics when there is no response... It's like talking to yourself if no one responds to your posts.... An easy rule of thumb, "Ignore me I will go away....." Ha ha ha ha......... :drink: |
Lots of new people for sure. Like radio and TV, there are other channels to turn to now, and some have. but I think that the majority dont mind being able to view all the sites. I still check the others but rarely post or wont post at all, but I think the people that i talk with here are more grounded with reality. they have boats, not just keyboard boaters.

I used to spend HOURS on here every day. Lately, I just check out OSO when I am bored at work.

started here in 2003... still around..
|
When the site first started it was loaded with bashers...but you can't expect much less, most of the offshore people I have met are extremely opinionated and in some cases arrogant...not saying that's entirely a bad thing, but for quite a few I've met there's nothing to back it with...just hot air. I guess we've all found ourselves in those shoes from time to time.
|
Been here since 2000, used to spend hours / day here reading the boards. Haven't posted much in a couple of years. Back in 2000 we would head to the NYC poker run with 10-15 high performance boats blasting down the river, a lot bought newer, faster and bigger boats, now their all gone, we pretty much boat by ourselves, and take a couple of trips / year with the cabin cruisers.
|
Still here.....ebbing and flowing...
