Boat Financing

So, who are the major players these days with the best rates?
Any recent experiences to rave about?

:)

Re: Boat Financing

Our rates TODAY (not last month) and without any BS points. Dealers can often do better because you are buying down the rate you pay in the price you pay for the boat.

$75K-$199K 5.99% -you can take off .25% from the rate for 720+ beacon score

$200K + 5.75% minus the above deductions AND if you are 750+ beacon take off another .25% for the best rate today of 5.25%

Rates good for 180 months up to 100K and over 100 up to 240 months.

Well, I've found that there's a LOT out there that I LIKE, few that I can afford, and a couple out of those that I would consider making an offer on. ;)

Now I need to start getting financing together so that I can make the best deal.

Gotta move mine first, or trade it...

Thanks for the info, guys! :)

Sweet, did you find a boat you liked?

I sent people to Essex for a long time. I have found that the service (After the fact) is better at NewCoast.
Jodi actually knows offshore boats, delivery options and understands the documentation process.

Key bank would be the ultimate holder of the loan and we use Marine Title as our closing company.

Re: Boat Financing

I'm going to give some of these other players a try as well..I've been approved by one lender but at a 3% orig fee and another lender, First Commercial Corp., wouldn't touch it.. I have a 770 beacon and they denied me without any real reason.. Steer clear of them...They're misleading and very unprofessional..They advertise a lot and brag on their 45 years in business but it's hard for me to believe they've survived this long...

I ended up choosing Harris.

Robin is super nice, I got an answer in less than two hours(on a Friday :) ) and the rate was very competitive.

Re: Boat Financing/ Boat Loans

I haven't put a post up for a while and I had the pleasure of talking to one of the members today! So here I am!

I've got a fantastic deal going on right now for a purchase or refi on boats 20 years old or newer. The rate of 4.9% is available for financing of $100k or more. This bank is okay with high performance (RARE), but they do like high credit scores. If you are at 675 or higher (credit score - if you don't know, don't worry!) it would be worth your while to give me a call. Payment on $100k at the 4.9% is $655 per month. That's fully amortized over 20 years.

That bank is having specials on smaller deals, too... call me! They are very competitive right now.

Also, I am also more than happy to talk to anyone about what is involved and what is required when financing a boat. Call me!

Thanks!

Re: Boat Financing

I just re-financed my boat with Bank of The West. 5.2% fixed, 20 years, no points or costs. Easy to deal with! Bank of The west is the parent Company of Essex. Good Luck, I can't beleive that they can lock in a rate like this for 20 years! Of course, who keeps a boat that long?

Von Bongo 09-10-2004 03:03 PM

Re: Boat Financing

Is it not interesting that the more money they loan you, the lower the rate gets

Re: Boat Financing

Costs just as much time and effort to make a loan, service it , follow up for insurance, post payments, send tax statements and so on for a $10,000 loan as it does for a loan of $100,000.

Look at it as a volume discount.

Here's a financing tip: Buy a boat for which you can pay cash or find a hobby you can afford without going into debt.

Can anyone finance a Canadian? Not a lot of lenders that I have spoken with over here that like to finance a boat longer than 7 years. That can make payments quite large!

I spoke to my tax guy about this. The boat loan intrest is also deductible as a second home. The boat need's to have a cooking surface, ie. range, microwave. It also needs to have a head.

Works for some, but I don't think I'd want my house and boat tied together financially.
