I say the hotter the better, 375- 400 sounds right, you really want it to boil and get thin so it flows through the engine nicely

Yeah.... centigrade......... The oil should be up around the boiling point of water... 200 to 230... anything above 300 and the oil breaks down quickly.. My old air cooled Ducati used to run over 350f all the time... great for deep frying chicken, not good for viscosity life though..... :blaster:

Re: Oil Temps

On my last blower motor with a inner-cooler it ran about 230 running pretty hard . cruising it would be 160-180.wfo for a while would go to 260 then I would let out. But it was at 11 lbs of boost.I put 140 hours on that one and the bearing looked real good.At that boost the oil would fuel dilute pretty fast, Also the carbs was on the rich side [Safe mode] :D

My Hustler has a oil thermostat in it and it want go over 210.Thats what its set at. :( It would probably run cooler but i change my oil every 25 hours or after every poker run.

Nope that's farenheit. The oil injection tank sits in the bilge and is pretty much whatever the ambient air temperature is. It's mixed with the fuel by some sort of valve near the fuel injectors. Never gets much above ambient air. 2 strokes are kinda simple that way, just watch the water pressure and everything else takes care of itself.

as for I/O type motors oil temp, at a minimum, should be over 212 (boiling point of water). 220-230 would be ideal. I'd probably start to watch it carefully if it went north of 250.

Re: Oil Temps

Cool thanks. So running at 240 with cold water temps would not damage anything??
