what mopower and hotduck said is very correct.

RS is trim package only as far as I could ever figure out. Mainly RS badge on grill, gas cap, fenders between door and wheelwell, hideaway headlamps and RS emblem on steering wheel insert.

SS is a trim and performance upgrade. It will take precedent over the RS package as far as badging plus it has a different hood with 2 raised areas w/ chrome louvers bolted on. Not sure on this but I think the tail lamps were solid red with the reverse lights separate in the rear valence panel. Larger standard engine (350/295) and a few even larger choices (396/325, 396/350 and 396/375), 12 bolt rearend, front disk brakes, and I believe they all had a floor shift whether stick or auto.

As far as best year, I love them all.

theres a 68 or 69 coupe sitting at a car lot up the road from me,it's pretty ruff,but looks solid and restorable and apparently he gets a lot of traffic on it,it now has 3500 firm in shoe polish on the front window!

Right BGIII , but the base Camaro did have column shift ( stick or auto).
Disk brakes were an option , not part of the SS package. I had a new 68 SS and it steered and stopped like a truck. Wait a minute...my F350 steers and stops MUCH better

Mopower, that is interesting about the front disk brakes, that and the 350 or bigger badges on the fenders and a 12 bolt are the first things I look for when a car is represented as an SS. I was totally unaware that disk brakes were an option.

I meant the SS had the floor shift, not all Camaro's.

A good friend of mine just finished this 69 Z28. Check it out.

then pick on current work, then pick on the gold Camaro.

The car was a mess when he picked it up, although the body was extremley clean and straight.
It has a 468,Dports,a solid just a little bigger than an LS7,strip dominator intake with an 850 and the car ran 10:38@129 (not bad for a $3000 motor) with 4:10's now it's got 4:56's and he's trying to go 9:99.
The only thing I don't like is the car is too perfect, I'm afraid to just be around it. A friend of ours used to own a restoration shop and is an awesome painter/bodyman (some of his cars have been in Hot Rod) so the paint is just flawless.
He did have the car apraised , $30k . Not bad for a clone.

You could actually get 4-way disk brakes on some of the models. It was a rare option. I recently saw a 1969 numbers matching Z-28 with 4-way disk brakes listed for $85,000. There was a name to the 4 way disc package but I can't recall what it was

1969 Z-28. My dad bought one and we had a friend who was a race engine builder who was going to blueprint the engine for him. The engine was labeled 302/290. This was a 302 ci and 290 hp. The engine builder laughed and said that the 290hp was for insurance companies. The 290hp was at about 4800rpm. He dynoed the engine prior to tear down and it made about 300hp at 5000rpm and made 438hp at 6800rpm. Far cry from the rated 290hp

Exactly. Most people don't know this but that DZ302 was screaming with horsepower but that was the transition year because of insurance (the muscle cars were dead after 1970). Some of the 69 Z-28's left the factory with two 4 barrels and a wild cam and dynoed over 500HP.
