trying to schedule a week vaca and seems that half the people we know are going for fantasy fest and half for the race week in november..
we have never been to florida let alone key west so we are looking forward to going,,

what would u choose,, i am thinking the race weekend,,

where would u stay???

would u fly in to the keys or drive from miami?


any thoughts would be appreciated...

Fantasy Fest is a once in a lifetime but personally I would go to the Race and Columbus Day Regatta instead of Fantasy fest. Fantasy Fest is extremely packed so if you do not like crowds forget it. You can never get a taxi, hotels are packed and filthy. Race week is more casual and more fun. Fantasy Fest is like Mardi Gras. Now Columbus Day Regatta in Elliott Key is the event not to miss if you are a boater.

I have done them both, Fantasy Fest I will never do again and Columbus Day regatta and the Race I always look forward to.

The drive to the Keys is beautiful so the flight in to Miami is always an option. If it is affordable to drive in to Key West and avoid the whole Miami Airport and rent a car thing than do that. I would fly in to Key West, take a taxi to the closest scooter rental place and have the extra half a day to vacation. You will not need the rental car once you get to Key West.

yep . . race week for me. the crowd is great. alot of OSO'ers there. i have flown to both aiiports and the drive down from Miami is somthing worth doing but it is very easy to get in an out of keywest airport. just one quick cab ride to wherever you are staying and its all scooter from there. cant wait for the worlds this year, we stay at a place called the "Palms". nice place and reasonable. just a few blocks over from Duval.

its gonna be rough to hang and look at the water if i cant at least go out at some point.

We stay at coconut mallory there in key west, they have 2 room and 3 room condos with a pool and boat docks and outside bar, a couple of minutes from duval and is quiet at night to sleep. Also they offer covered parking as well with reasonable rates for the week.
