What's up with the green slime on the water? Usually you don't start seeing it till much later in the season. I went for a run this morning and it is BAD.

It's a special additive that the DC government put in the river to detect urine. The more urine, the greener it is.
Anyone want to go swimming?

I don't know what it is. I've seen it pretty bad this year too. Algae I guess. Everyone I have asked has a different answer.

Yes, algea! Normally we don't see it until later in the season if it hasn't been raining. That is not the case this year so I'm not sure what's going on.

So, Bill&Patti, ya'll usually raft up on the Smallwood side of Mattawoman? I know that would be a decent view of Tims. How's the river bottom over there-sandy or muddy? It seems the last few times we ventured to Mattawoman (other side) it smelt like fish... The kid's and I got in the truck after swimming over there and whew!!!...

I saw patches of it last Sunday between the power lines and Fairview (Tim's 2). I was hoping that it didn't get worse.

Time to go run the Chesapeake until it's gone.

We only raft there once (maybe twice) a year. Another boating group we belong to has a Swim Platform Party at the end of June every year (everyone brings a dish to share and goes from boat to boat, platform to platform, eating....and drinking). It is mostly sandy but can have hydrila (sp?) really bad if the conditions are right. I have never really notice that it smells bad, though. We always wear boat shoes. Last year it was npt warm enough for me to get in the water. Haven't been yet this year either.
