Re: Girl dies after jumping into propeller!
These incidents are unfortunate. A classmate from my youth lost the use of his left arm in a boating accident. All of us grew up with our own little boats, mainly 15' Whalers and such. Three of them were out and the water was rough. My friend went to the front to help weight it down and a wave sent him over the front. Consequently, they ran over him.
There are so many accidents that happen because of sheer ignorance. Sitting at the front of a fast moving boat in rough seas is just like riding on the hood of car on the highway. This isn't The Matrix, people.
Why is a kid jumping off the back of a boat while it's backing up? Where was the driver looking? If people don't stop making these needless mistakes, Big Brother is going to start regulating the sport. Just wait 'til they require child boat seats and passenger safety harnesses. How about speed limits with tickets issued. Better yet, stop lights on the water.
But what do I know. There's probably some stop-light manufacturer lobbying government for those laws anyway.

very sad, Id hate to even think of something that devistating ever happening to a parent. We all need to be very careful, due to the lack of resposibility and attention we have received lately. Be careful out there, one life lost to a pleasurable sport is one to many.

So sad. AGAIN!!! NO ONE OFF THE BOAT UNTIL THE ENGINE IS TURNED OFF! THERE SHOULD NEVER BE A REASON TO JUMP OR LEAP OFF A BOAT. IT'S UP TO THE CAPTAIN TO GET CLOSE ENOUGH TO STEP OFF THE BOAT.
That should be impressed on all aboard no matter what the age.
This is just awful

Re: Girl dies after jumping into propellar!
A family friends son jumped off the front of my boat when i was bowing into the dock many years ago when i had a 17 whaler bowrider. that was scary. luckily i had time to stop the boat before hitting him. i forgot to include "DONT JUMP INFRONT OF A MOVING BOAT" to my safety speach. i do now though. Many non-boaters have no commen sense on the water. I find it best to tell non-boaters to huddle up out of the way when im docking. Otherwise they will grab the wrong lines, or try to push off the piling and get their hand crushed.
This is such a sad incident.

So terrible...
When possible, we 'try' to keep kids in the cabin when docking...
No one even should be on the swim platform when the engine is on. When docking, only 'able' adults are asked to lend a hand on the swim platform or bow.
The Admiral's only responsibility is our daughter and her friends when they are on the boat.. The rest is up to me unless she can get them in the cabin... (Laptop and DVDs can usually coax them in the cabin after a long day...)
Safety First!
