My new motors ran flawlessly.
New motors idle an gear at 600 RPM instead of 800.
Much better for docking and no wake zones.
Gained about 7 MPH ( guess )
Not the same weather conditions as last year.
Not the same load either.

Re: 4th of July Damage Report

lets see the motor runs like a top 67gps with a box stock 26 4 blade
On the other hand I hit a cruiser wake so hard as to pop a port window and ripped the
bildge pump out of the housing. Nothing to expensive little wet in the cabin though :D

Terrible weekend.. Had to gas two boats up a couple times.. Lobstah and shrimp dinner off the Key Biscayne shoreline whilst fireworks exploded overhead. Moonlit cruise home..

Re: 4th of July Damage Report

Actually found some time to drop the motor in and was trying to get it running for Monday. That didn't work so well.
Started to lash valves and both batteries are shot, couldn't even get the motor to turn over on with the charger on them. Good thing though , I then noticed that all the valves are hanging open slightly even with the rocker arm (Jesel) adjusters all the way loose. It seems like the new Isky lifters are slightly taller than the Crowers and now I need shorter pushrods.
It will be a couple of weeks until I can work on it again. With 60 hour work weeks and Smoke on the Water (spectating) next weekend I just don't have time to work on it.
Oh well , I guess I have snowmobile season to look forward too.

I worked all weekend on my engine swap and on Sunday I stubbed my toe on the engine stand holding my new 502. Does that count?

I said a few cus words about your coupler duing my cursing session. Is it fixed yet?

Craig and everyone, sorry to hear of the damages. Craig, if I can help, you know how to find me.

I had the toilet seat fly off hitting a big crusier wake; but it popped back on again. :D

Ran Great!!!

I'll try to break it again next weekend!!!

Re: 4th of July Damage Report

I didn't break anything, but I didn't fix anything either. I found and cured the flooded starting problem last week. This weekend I made some progress on the port motors lack of top end power by blowing out the carbs. Unfortunately it's still not 100%, so have put a local Yamaha mechanic on the calender for next week. I've "had" the boat for a couple of months now, and have only had it up on plane twice. Sure hope I get it all behind and can still get some real use in this year.

Re: 4th of July Damage Report

2 am 4th of July.... sitting at my PC looking at OSO... somebody tries to get in my back door. Jumped up, grabbed mag light, flipped on the outside floods and there are 3 or 4 perps at my back door. I had put my truck in the garage for protection from fireworks fallout a couple hours prior, and the dumbazzes from a couple doors down decided I was gone, and that they will try to get in.

1 or 2 got away. 2 decided to run toward my BACK fence. (6 foot stockade, bad idea.) They finally broke/climbed the fence, but not before I got a good ID, (and the left shoe of one of them).

The 2 that broke my fence were apprehended by Toledo Police and arrested.
Hint to prowlers: If you lose 1 shoe in the commission of a crime, go ahead and dump that other shoe. This is called the OJ rule.

If the fence is worth more than 500.00 it's a felony.
I still can't believe that they got caught. The cops had to have been super busy, but they take it pretty seriously when someone attempts a break in. They showed up quick and spread out. Set up a fake checkpoint at the north end of the street, and then caught the perps at the south end of the street. Two middle aged female cops caught two 19 year old punks with a 10 minute head start in a good sized neighborhood. Smart cops. Dumb prowlers.

When the one cop saw the shoe, she said "hey look, he found cinderella's shoe."
(Cinderella, as she called him, was in cuffs already.)

it was broken during the 4th of July, does it count?

Re: 4th of July Damage Report

Not trying to be a hard azz or anything, but they ran for a reason.

I was one pissed off homeowner. I'm not a giant, but I can't fly coach or buy clothes off the rack either, if you know what I mean... with an adrenaline kick going... they tried to fly over that fence. There wasn't going to be any 4 on 1. They weren't "real" criminals. I've met scary crooks. These were drunk kids.

I'm more concerned about future vandalism than personal safety. They can't take me, and they know it, so they'll probably take it out on property.

I'm getting an estimate for $495 (misdemeanor) and an estimate for over $500 (felony). If I get any crap from any of them, I go with the higher estimate and they can be somebody's new girl in prison.

I ran with a rough crowd when I was young. We were still smarter than these punks. (Rougher too... and still no arrests.)

Glad that they don't have access to the boat.

Well, once again we didn't get the boat out. Just as well as I can't afford to break it. We save money up to get the Blazer fixed. That was $600. Then the diesel took a digger. That was $800. Then Chester stepped in a gopher hole while running at full bore. That was on the 4th. We finally found a vet that was open on the 5th. He managed to break both the bones in his leg. They splinted the leg, but couldn't set it. That was $180. We went to our vet this morning and they are going to set it. That's $480. Then he has to get the cast replaced twice. More $$$. At this rate, I can't afford to go boating. :(

Snapped a ALT bracket in half, and broke a trim pump bracket as the weather sucked and the lake was not calm, trying to beat the rain to get back to port. But I saw worse. small repairs already done and ready for next weekend.

Did she get a bruise?
And take shorter strokes in wavy situations she won't fly off.

LOL, GL. Its a rental crapper anyhow. :D

The "she" on the boat was confortable in the bolster next to me. She was NOT happy when I launched off a Dinner Boat wake on the Potomac next to National Airport, and nearly turned a Bayliner into chum. :D :D Oh well.

Yup...they can be sneaky chicken$hit turds and hit your posessions when your not looking :hothead: It can escalate into a war that nobody wins. Hopefully they realize the futility of it and will pick on someone else.

It isn't going to escalate Indy, but I know what you mean.

I have four CCTV cameras, good locks, a great safe for my guns and stuff, alarm system (including garage) and have a new fence coming. Meanwhile, I am looking at new homes. Time to go.

I want to go to an area that I don't have to wear a sidearm.

Re: 4th of July Damage Report

Sorry to hear about that, Craig and Nancy!

Got roped into taking my family out on Saturday (a bunch of non-boaters)...Mom, Stepfather, and my Mom's cousin and her husband from Cleveland (Donna and Ron). I thought the cousin and her husband were going to be the problem....wrong!

Last weekend the top of the cabin door came off (screws were too short). So, on my way down to Cobb Island on Friday, I stop off and get a dozen #4 3/4 inch SS screws to put the door back on. Saturday morning we were up at 6:00am to get fuel and launch the boat and didn't have time to put the door back on. So, we get everyone loaded in the boat and head out....my Stepfather decides that he wants to try to keep his hat on so he stands in the stairwell, shielded from the wind by the windscreen...normally we have the door latched shut and I really didn't want him standing there. Well, he looses his balance and falls back and busts one of the plastic cabinet doors....and kept leaning against the panel and flipping off the main switch for the cabin.

Getting a price now for the door replacement. The good part was we let Ron drive and made his weekend. Donna sat on the back hatch (didn't like this and prayed that the USCG wouldn't see us) and held on for dear life with a smile as wide as the River...she was having too much fun sitting up there, I didn't have the heart to tell her to get down. Said she felt like she had gotten a face lift from the wind. :woohoo: Then I asked her how she thought Ron felt with 1500HP under his control....her answer, "Better than sex!"

It could have been worse....but glad it wasn't.

Hope everyone had a great 4th.

Re: 4th of July Damage Report

actually I did find a few problems,, high temp and low oil pressure error codes,
one of the exhuast hoses was burned clean through. , after further examination the impeller looks like it sucked in some stuff and is destroyed,, looks like a easy fix, new hose, new impeller. low oil pressure was prob due to the high temp check it now and its 50+

Tim, I am so sorry to hear about Chester. He will be fine though, he is young and will repair fast and well. The key will be to keep him down, he will want to rip and tear all over the place. It is sad when they are hurt, mine blew her ACL out and even with surgery it is still a little weak. By the way, your chain is safe here, I want to get it back to you so let me know if you are around. They didn't cut it and it is just like you left it. Hope all is well. Coming to SOTW?
