I changed my oil Friday. I loaned my oil changer to a friend of my dads, and he returned it in a trash bag. I just assumed the trash bag was to keep his car clean. I opened the trash bag and the changer looked like I just pulled it out of a 55 gal drum of used diesel oil :hothead: :hothead: :hothead: ! If I could have got my hands on that guy... If I were going to borrow something from someone it will be returned cleaner than when I got it.

Yep, blows the mind. I don't loan stuff out anymore for that reason.

I just learned how to do an oil change...
It's much easier is you have an oil sucker... for proper disposal and less of a mess.

Too keep it from going all over the place use a "diaper" not the baby kind.
Hmm, now that I think about it that might actually work too. Or you can use the pee pads.

Exactly. Just pop a hole in the HP6s hit the pre-lube and it all pumps right out. Preluber is one of the best things you can do for your motor too.

I did the rag thing for awhile, but even if you don't spill anything on the engine or bildge, your left with a bunch of oil soaked rags that make a mess.

Not if you have a trash bag... just go to you local Pep Boys or Gas Station. I'm sure they won't mind properly disposing the stuff.

Not everyone has the luxury of being able to reach them, but I'm still "old school" and believe in pulling the drain plugs out of my pans so I can inspect them for shavings. So oil goes everywhere anyway. But just to minimize the mess around the filter, I do puncture the filter first. Then put a plastic bag over it and take it loose.

(If its on my trailer)I have had good luck with taking a long funnel like you use for a trans. cut it down so it fits under the pan but you still have a good angle, and let it stick out the drain hole in the back of the boat. Pull the plug and let it drain that way everything gets out of the pan and just wipe the rest up. But might not work on all boats.
