Angry Doggy Cat

I have a 2001 28 Profile Cat. 500 EFI, extension box, that I just bought. Running a 28 four blade with 60 gallons of gas. It does 72 gps at 4400 rpms. Does anyone have an idea what could be wrong. Profile says I should be doing 80 plus at 5300rpms but does not offer any suggestions.

Not a cat man myself, but It sounds like if you get those rpms up to what Profile is telling you, the speed should be in that vicinity.

Different prop ??
Tune up ??
Trim it up more ??

I have a friend that had the same boat w/o the extension box. Did 80+ any day of the week. (I love the boat.) I have to say that sounds like a motor problem. I don't think the prop sounds too big, and efen if they really f***ed up installing the box, it shouldn't cause this.

I'll try to remember to ask him what prop he was running.

What gear ratio in the drive? A 28 on 136 gears and the 500 wont really pull it. Is it a labbed 28? If its is and the gears are 150, then I am afraid you prolly have a sick motor. A 25 daytona or Talon with a 500efi will run just around 80 to 83 at 5000 to 5200 rpm with a 150 gear and 28 bravo or a 136 gear and a 26 bravo so you should be right in that area if all is working correctly.

Checked with my friend -- He was running a 25p four blade. Keep us posted.
