Noise NAZI's are gunnin' for me!
 

For the past few seasons, the crybaby whiners have been getting out of control up here.

They move up from the city, buy a house on the lake (busiest lake in southern Maine) and think they are in the wilderness!

This one idiot, who cries that I've ruined his sanctuary, bought his million-dollar home on the narrowest point of the lake has been very influential with the police and has donated many decibal meters to the water cops.

I just got a call from a friend. He heard first hand from the head Game Warden that "Kurt (me) was going to be the example of what will happen if you have a Cigarette on the lake" My buddy asked why Kurt, and he was told because he has the Cigarette boat and thats what all the hoopla is all about, Cigarette Boats!!!

The Game Warden said the entire Marine Patrol on the lake have been instructed to pull me over EVERYTIME I am on the water!!!

I'm just plain LIVID! I am one of the safest and probably the most experienced boater on our entire chain of lakes.

Any legal advice???

Par for the course... some burned out big city lawyer comes around and he wants the gate to close behind him. Make sure it kicks him in the azz.

Get very good mufflers that are legal and go 200ft (or closer if legal)from his docks and do about 10 donuts every 30 minutes on the week ends.
Also idling in front of his house about 50 ft from his dock, for a few hours once your legal might be fun.

Stay within the law.

have an independent noise test done on your boat to make sure its within legal limits "before they stop you".

record the conversation when you get pulled over and get them to admit their gunning for you????

Sorry to hear this.....I would wait and see what really does happen....I am sure that you could get them on a harrassment charge if you are legal noise wise....and you continually get pulled over.....Do you happen to know any marine officers??? Can you get any info from them????

Make friends with him without him knowing its your boat hes been *****ing about...that way once the first ticket comes you'll have a much easier time knowing how to make him miserable in return.

O i forgot, you could just move to SC...we don't even have inspections for cars down here, let alone a boat. Hell you can pretty much do whatever you want as long as you have a fire extinguisher, horn, and some PFD's on board, and you don't run into the DNR boat.

I know several of the water cops and they all admit they have way too many other problems (real safety issues) to be bothered by this foolish noise issue. But they have been instructed by the heads of state to stomp the noise problem out.

The head Dick Head seems to have some political pull and he is funding the extra patrol hours so they are at his beck and call.

Use the trick from the Sopranos.... Sit there with your motors off and play your stereo loud and have a loud party at 11PM, then at 2PM, then whenever you want to..especially if they are having guests over....f'em. Here in Vermont we have a lot of those types... tell them to go back to Westchester County, Long Island, NJ or wherever they came from ......If he is making your life hell then reciprocity is in order, as long as it's within the law.....

That sucks !! We have a judge that lives on the next raod over behind us. He desided he didn't like traffic by his house so he had the township start working on the bridge , then when they had it apart , he got them to stop and leave it that way ..... :hothead: The bridge has been closed for three years now ... My buddy lives next to him . If I could go over the bridge ,it is about 1 mile , now to go see him it is about 12 miles to go around !!! :mad: Not only that but he stopped my buddy from putting up a garage because it would block his view of the trees .... So now my buddy leaves allof his machines and projects laying all over the yard so it looks like the geto !!! :D That pissed him off more . Now he might get to put up his garage ...

I like 2 ideas here . Get good mufflers and a lot of other boats and drive in circles in front of his house all day long !!! The other was to just park there and party real loud all day AND NIGHT !! :D

I believe that this aproach was taken. Not at his house but at a town hall meanting about the "Loud boats". I am sure Kurt can fill you in with the details but from the story I remember the guy tried to run away when kurt introduced himself...... So man enough.... I think NOT!!!! I would be willing to bet if Kurts boat was a Wooden Criss Craft with strait pipes the guy would not even give it a second thought, but since it is fiberglass he *****es....

If you are over the db limit, then they can stop and cite you every time you go out. You are going to need the muffs. Once you do that, there is NOTHING that they can do.

When seeing the photo of the ass-end of your boat in the magazine concerning the Konrad dealio, it looked like you already have mufflers on the cig. Have you done a 4 x 4 to check dB? Hopefully, you will be ok.

Just sounds like someone moving in and thinking they own the lake. I live on a lake and we have (had) the same problem with a rich guy that thinks he owns the cove.

two separate problems here:

1. the azzhole neighbor; in my experience with these types, there is no appeasing them no matter what you do, I'd stay away from direct confrontation because he just might be the type to accuse you of threatening him with harm, then you got more trouble......get the legal muffs and do your own test to make sure they are legal, then run that bad boy any time and anywhere its legal

2. the corrupt Head Dick Police Chief....not much you can do here unless there is evidence you can obtain that he is harrassing you because of a political favor to azzhole neighbor............try to make friends with the water patrol guys so they see you really are not the problem.....I'd swing by and say "Hi" if you see them around as you're cruising....most of these guys like to see these boats and don't usually get to ride in them...invite them for a ride if they are up for it.....try to do it in a part of the lake that is away from where azzhole neighbor can see this......good luck Kurt

By a very loud, big cc Harley. Put on a deck boat, anchor in front of his house and have a ball. As far as I know, they dont check them for DB level yet, at least not here.

Pay the cops more that he is.

Find out what the law is, abide by it completely and sue for harasment if you get pulled over more than once for the same issue.

ok, only kidding... I agree with the muffler route. Beat him at his own game, Winni is the worst for noise, thankfully our new Donzi has Q&Q and it passes nicely. I know he's going to cost you some $$$ by b***ing, but if you beat him quietly, it will show him your a smarter and bigger man than he is. He sounds like he has it in for you (and the Cig.) so you gettin' mad at him just makes him that much happier and fuels his fire.

Muffle it, and subsequently muffle him. If that doesn't work, theeeen - kick his ass!! ;)

Get some mufflers that keep your boat quiet below the states noise limits. Have it tested twice to make sure it passes the limits. Make sure the rest of your boat is fully legal. Get a good video camera and keep it on board at all times. If you get stopped turn on the camera and video the whole shakedown. You don't have to have a good shot while they hassle you, just aim it in the general direction so that it records the sound. Also you can narrate what is happening. I bet the officers will be very nice when the camera is running and if you keep getting hassled you have the undisputable proof of harrassment. They cannot make you turn off the camera as far as I know. Make sure you know a good lawyer too.

1.) How is vidoetaping them doing there job gonna be proof of harrassment? All you're gonna do is show them doing there job. You would have to show repeated stops by the same officer to prove some kind of harrassment.

2.) What makes you think the cops aren't already taping the incident themselves? I have spent the good part of my career "on camera", it is the best defense for my actions ever invented. It has saved my butt from several claims of abuse and yes 'harrassment'.

Seriously, the best suggestion is to be legal and get to know the marine officers. If you are legal, and compliant with the law, you have nothing to worry about. The next time a complaint is filed the officers can respond with, "sorry he's perfectly legal, there's nothing we can do."

I didn't say rollover, I just said make it legal. Wicked Won posted once that all the truly fast boats nowadays are quiet. He's running 1100 blown bad boys, I'm sure you can bring yours into compliance.

I've got Gaffrig muffler tips. If they are closed, I'm reading just a bit over 90db at idle (4x4 test) and last year, one of the wardens said that was acceptable.

The problem is Gaffrig does not advise running their muffler tips in the closed position over 3000 rpm. Could cause exhaust valve problems.

Does anyone have any FIRST HAND experience with the GBB product with a stout blower motor?

Sure seems like the days of real performance boats will be over before you know it.

I was running open stelling headers on my boat and the dick head cops over here started to give my some real hard looks. I call Gram At GGB he sent me a set inserts for them. They work pretty good with maybe 1-2 mph slower. The dick heads over here stil look but not as hard now.
