He has taught many of us specific things in each individual way.
He was a teacher,a hero, a man of honesty, integrity and openness, and our OFFSHORE WORLD CHAMPION!
We will never forget him and all that he has taught us.
Yes it will be tough when we stumble across a problem that needs solving, and Doug is no longer there to give us the answers. But he will still help us and guide us in his own way from above.
He will watch over us each and every time we get in our boats.
You can count on that!
From now on as Rich has said, we need to celebrate Doug's life, and live it at full throttle as Doug did. He knew no other way...
Yes Doug, you will be missed. But I will still count on you to be there for us and guide us through the unchartered waters of our futures.....

Kelley,
OffshoreOnly played a big part in your Dad's prayers.
Other sites in which you may not have been aware of participated as well.
I did what I could to reach out to everyone that knew him.

Re: farewell to Doug Lewis
T2X & RonP,
I too like the war story about the "flipping" 43 Skater, however, Doug DID NOT wire anything backwards on that boat, it was rigged elsewhere! Pro Marine/Doug had nothing to do with anything on that boat other than taking it for it's maiden voyage.
Doug had enough mishaps of his own making but this was not one of them!
I just needed to clarify that.

Re: fairwell to Doug Lewis
In which a lesson was well learned, and became a priority from there on.
Look at the quotes from Doug's email that he sent back to me in regards to a Skater I was going to take out for the 1st time:
Hi Tim:
In response to your questions, here we go!
The very first thing you need to do is check the rigging.
The rocker switches: for trim when you push them up the drive go out and down they come in. You want the tunnel tab to come up when you press the "up" side of the switch. You need indicator marks for the drives when level to the bottom of the boat and tunnel tab level with the bottom of the boat.
Another quote: The tunnel tab is big enough to get you in trouble...BE CAREFUL!
And of course the most important advice:
Tim:
Let me know what the boat does during break in and MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A FULL AIR SYSTEM! I know the importance of this...don't leave the dock without it.
Keep me advised. Thanks.
Doug

I've been surfing around for weeks now.. there's a few on there that I have seen, and others that I will look at. You have done a huge part of keeping everyone updated and whatnot.. its actually pretty impressive! Thanks for the links. I still can't believe how many people have contributed to all of this. It makes it a little bit easier reading all of the kind words everyone had to say. Thanks.

Re: fairwell to Doug Lewis
Since I've joined this site in April I've gone back and read all the updates on Doug. I never knew or met Doug, but through this forum and Sharkey's posts I feel unfortunate that I haven't. I drive by Pro Marine almost every day and its makes me sad that someone like Doug was taken too soon.

Re: fairwell to Doug Lewis
Kelley,
It was the least I could do for such a great man that has done so much for me and many others in this sport.
For you to say that all this has helped make things easier for you, just blows me away. That is just great to hear coming from you...
I would like to do more when Leeanne is ready to.
Something like a Memorial website, with more pictures, his background, his racing accomplishments, and the stories that have been written up on him and so forth.
We'll get something together for him....

I'd love to help out with anything that I can. My dad has done so much for me over the years, I would like to contribute something back, and something to keep his memory alive. We already had a blood drive because of my dad at my work about 2 months ago, but it just doesnt' seem enough. A start though...
Thanks again Tim, it really does mean alot!!
