Whats "UP" at Lake Cumberland???

OK,,, I know there are several Lake Cumberland Boaters that do their Cyber Boating here so fill me in please on what the "Law" is doing over there!!! We are planning our Trip to the Poker Run, and then I heard that the Water Patrol has gone Crazy, boarding , and searching Boats for Alcohol, even Houseboats are being stopped. Is this True?? I also heard that you can't anchor at the "Falls'' anymore, and they are stopping ever Boat that leaves the area, looking for Beer, even if the Driver is totally Sober,, they are issuing tickets to the Passengers for drinking in public,, Is this True??? :blaster: :blaster: :blaster:

Thanks for the Info!!

mama, don't I see your name over on the LC message board? ;)

Last I heard, the poker run organizers was trying to come to an agreement so that all the participates will not be harrassed. Must be why the 'to Labor Day' enforcement. Kentucky wants the $$$ that will come from that weekend. But god forbid you go the weekend before, then they get if from tickets. It's a feeding frenzy there right now. Seems like some kinda discrimination thing. If it was not for loosing the deposit on the houseboat for PR weekend, I'd just assume keep my $$ here in IN.

I'm not there, but I hate to hear that for anyone. Dripping Springs at Grand Lake here in Oklahoma kind of went through the same thing, but all they cracked down on was the nudity. Other than that, the lake patrol is pretty cool.

So when did 1/2" drain plugs start using a 5/8" wrench. All mine have been 9/16's. Just don't want you to slip and cut your knuckles :drink:

That's too Bad!! I've always wanted to try Lake Cumberland and the Falls!! I'm not into drinking heavly but I do like to relax with a cold one. If this is how they are treating everyone then that lake just got moved to the bottom of the list of places I'd like to try!!

I was thinking of going over to LC but if you can't even have a small cooler on board for the girls, what the HE((. I thought our Game wardens were strict  if that is the law I think I would leave KY.

B.Dog-- I've got an All-16ths you can borrow,, but I'll need a deposit :)

Whats Up Fun-Home?? To Tracey and myself, Lake Cumberland is one of the most Beautiful Lakes in the U.S. that allows Boating. We look forward to making the 5 Hour drive over there every year,, except for this year!! I canceled our Cottage yesterday ad-mist all off the "Business" that is taking place over there this year. I think this would have been our 8th year in a row,, I can't remember what year the First Poker Run was.. but OH WELL,, maybe we'll Boat down to Nashville, drop in on Mcollistion,, look for Ashley Judd,, etc,, Fun-Home when ever you get ready to head this way, Ky. Lake is 5 hours closer for you, and a Whole lot bigger, and your guaranteed to have a good time!! I have two close Boating friends that are in your line of Work, so you could share embalming stories or something :) :) check out www.kentuckylake.com for more info!!!

CAP071,,,, If thats the reason, I may can help us out!! The Sec. of Revenue and Finance for the State of Ky. is my Boss!!! :eureka:

I have been to Cumbeerland, and I would have to disagree with you. Lake Travis (here in Austin, Texas) is just as nice, if not nicer, than Cumbeerland.

Plus, our water cops are cool! :D

Re: Whats "UP" at Lake Cumberland???

I was there last week. Falls were dead--even on a saturday. Didn't even bother going back on sunday. I love the lake but they've gone too far. I'll be back but the falls won't be my favorite place to go. I'll have to find somewhere else. The Lake Cumberland forum is attempting to make some progress to find out why and possibly help the situation. This is much appreciated and others should check out their site.

Re: Whats "UP" at Lake Cumberland???

It "was" That Bad The Weekend After The 4th Of July. Apparently Someone With Close Ties To Frankfort (our Governor) Did Some Major Complaining, Plus They Had Videos!!! So They Sent In Alot More Water Patrol Officers. The Weekend After The 4th Was Bad The Next Weekend Everybody Scattered Out To Different Coves. Since Then 76 Has Been A Ghost Town. There Has Always Been An Open Container Law Here, Meaning Passengers Can Drink, But Not Display It In It's Container.

But Today On Our Local News Our Tourism Dept Is Requesting For The Patrol To Lighten-up...since People Like Us Bring There Area Alot Of Revenue $$$.

We've Not Been Back Over To The Falls Since The 4th But We Have Personally Not Seen Any Boats Pulled Over. I Think They Were Worse @ The Falls.

I Expect Things To Return To Normal By The Poker Run. Are You Coming Down Before Then???

Re: Whats "UP" at Lake Cumberland???

We have 3 different police depts out on the river here. The US Coast Guard, The New Jersey State Police, And the water nazi's The Pa Fish and Game Commision Cops. Who are nothing more then revenue generaters. They will harass and fine you for anything at all. I was charged with a false Dui 2 years ago by them and they told me flat out we need fines to pay our salary. I feel they should NOT be able to just stop you for No reason and find things to break stones over. out here they pull eveyone over for a safety check then it's all down hill from there.

I'm all for safety but when they line people up like cattle at check points and Don't even let you slide for a first offense My god lets not forget the revenue all us boaters generate by Boating.

Re: Whats "UP" at Lake Cumberland???

If they are doing it for revenue that seems very short sided.......I can tell you I'll never go after hearing about this stuff. There's to many other places to spend my hard earned money. Why go somewhere and have to even worry about it.

Re: Whats "UP" at Lake Cumberland???

Hey, "my" lake is still "part" of the Cumberland water system. It's just a good bit shallower and muddier. Our watercops are almost TOO laid back. It's a pretty fun lake with a few places to stop and eat and party.

Nothing like 76 Falls exists on my lake, though. Cumberland was/is a fun lake to visit and it's a big SOB too. Plenty of places to go. Sad to hear that it is temporarily overcome with water Nazis. I'm all for strict DWI/BWI laws, but a zero tolerance on anchored alcohol consumption is a new one for me.

Dale Hollow Lake is pretty darn nice for a change for those who are close to Cumberland and don't want to mess with the Nazis.

If anybody comes to Old Hickory, I promise I'll drag the Formula out of the mothballs and show you the lake.
