So.... Do You Shower ?
Getting ready to cool down our XR's with some halo's and was courious how many of us are showering out there?
|
Re: So.... Do You Shower ?
need to, havent got em yet.
|
Re: So.... Do You Shower ?
got one on the TRS, don't know if it helps (never broke it):D
|
Re: So.... Do You Shower ?
There's no place on the poll for..........
Bought the boat with it on there and it's doing just fine. |
Re: So.... Do You Shower ?
I'm using showers from Innovative Marine. By far the nicest piece that I have seen. If you have a high x-dim or any signs of slippage when planing, I'd recommend plumbing them into the sea water pump.
|
Re: So.... Do You Shower ?
Never had them. I should and would for sure if I had big smoke.
|
Re: So.... Do You Shower ?
Put them on the Bravo 1's on the Top Gun....but they didnt come with them on the Gladiator....so I guess Merc is satisfied with their design.....so I am not going to put any on this one.......

Re: So.... Do You Shower ?

|
Re: So.... Do You Shower ?
Bought / installed the Halo on the new Bravo (from Simrek) and changed to Mobil 1 in the drive, figure I'll try double-duty protection and see what happens!? Like a rubber and the pill!? :D

Re: So.... Do You Shower ?
On my old Scarab I put the Innercooler style on my Imco drive.
The B-Max's that I have now has them built in. I figure on a stock drive and stock motors you should not need them ,but it cant hurt. There cheap any way :) |
Re: So.... Do You Shower ?
I do I do :D
|
Re: So.... Do You Shower ?
I ask this everytime a thread on showers comes up. Has anyone seen a heat related failure in an outdrive. I'm only asking because I haven't found anyone yet to say a failure was caused by heat.
BTW, I run showers....just in case. |
Re: So.... Do You Shower ?
I have twin tube drive shower and max machine worx billet aluminum cap(it's suppossed to work like a heat sink). i change oil every 20-25 hours, everytime i dissasemble BROKEN outdrive the oil looks new like it just came out of bottle ( other than the metal from whatever broke),Smitty

Re: So.... Do You Shower ?
And the ONE good thing about my OMC cobras....
With 100 ounces of high vis in each drive, you don't need showers. I need Merc High Perf in 55 gallon drums, though. |
Re: So.... Do You Shower ?
i have drive temp gauges in the new boat,, the teague xr drive that i just had installed has a shower the other doesnt, the xr with the shower runs 20-30 degrees hotter..
how the heck do u explain that? run synthetic.. |

The pic of the shower, isn't it suposed to hit the top cap and run down? Looks like it is missing. I don't have them 1:36 B1s, no chaulk at all, I step on mine to get in so they would be in the way.

Re: So.... Do You Shower ?
I have Billet Marine topcaps with internal cooling passages
on XR upper with Sportmaster shorties/5blade props. I've made some heavy passes and see no signs of high temp on the upper. The sides of the upper look like new with no lime buildup from higher temps. |
Re: So.... Do You Shower ?
Dennis, my drive look the same. However, I've got 2 new IMCO showers in a box I just recieved from Trick Marine. ( Thanks Fred) I got a killer price and I figure it's cheap insurance.

Re: So.... Do You Shower ?
I use the billet top cap design from Innovative Marine. I also think the top cap design helps to strengthen the top cap because it is bolted to it, thus making it harder to flex. That top cap deflection is what causes some drive failures.

addition to the drive is to replace the factory topcap with a billet cap. I went with the Billet Marine because it also cools the drive and looks trick! |

how the heck do u explain that? run synthetic.. i'd track temps over a period and see if there is a trend of temperature lowering over the season as she gets a few hours on her... |
Re: So.... Do You Shower ?
sirmek shower, 550+ hp through a alpha, zero problems. :) :)

Re: So.... Do You Shower ?
Took one this morning. Oh, on the boat? Yup. Came with the drive I bought from Kaama. Not sure what brand. I have another one sitting on the bench that works better (off my old, busted up drive).

Re: So.... Do You Shower ?
Had an upper failure last year on one of my alphas, mech said heat related......took cap off oil smelled "burnt to hell".......this year different mechanic other drive, replaced bent propshaft (hit something) had him checkout the rest of the drive....replaced the upper bearing set because they were barely hanging in there, his reason for bearings gone bad....."heat".....put the Simrek drive showers on ..........
Before....after a day of boating I would pull the boat out of the water and feel the drives.....signifigant heat.......thats after the boat sitting in the water at the dock motors off for 5 or 10 min while I went and got the truck!!.....now with the showers......COLD.......same temp as the prop..........doug |

Re: So.... Do You Shower ?
BILLETT MARINE CAPS ; temp is about 40 degrees cooler than without them

Re: So.... Do You Shower ?
I noticed the "chalking" on the upper gear housing from evaporated water and decided to shower. I cleaned the residue off the housing, changed to Mobil 1, and installed the "summit" shower (Halo did not look like it would work with the IMCO steering) and the chalk has not returned. No failures before but heat cannot help anything, particularly aluminum.

Re: So.... Do You Shower ?
Eddie marine deluxe shower, runs about 25 degrees cooler.
