Opinions on the 1997 Jaguar XK8

Super,
It's had a garaged, pampered life and we are getting a steal on it! The $$ he is asking is ~4-5,000 below street value.
The guy is good friend and I would like to think that he would not stick us with a problem child. He says he's never had any problems with it.
He bought a new 2003 XK8 last fall and now wants to get rid of the 1997. Now, all I have to do is sell my new 2003 Mustang GT Convertible!

My dad bought my mom a 96 model four door streched jag of some kind and they still have it to this day. It has been a GREAT car. It has had a few things go out over the years but nothing major. I remember they had a LOT more problems with the Cadillac that they owned before the Jag. It might be all in the way you treat them. Or maybe my parents just got lucky and got a good one.

Better have comprimising pictures of the parts man, or a very, very thick wallet. Lost one set of keys for my 2003 X-type, went to get another set. 300 f'ing dollars!!! For a key!!!!
Needless to say, I'm glad that car is GONE!

DR,
I had to get a spare key for our Mustang, (dealer lost it) and it was $100. Not as bad as the rip off you got! Any other problems with the car?
Thanks,
Dean

Dean, as I said... a good deal is a good deal, no matter what the car or boat is. If you can live with it, buy it. And living with an XK8 is not too harsh a punishment. Polish it, do up any paint chips it may have and put it in the classifieds for 2 or 3K more. You'll sell it after a while and probably not lose any money on it. That's what I do with my cars: never buy new and never buy at market prices. I'm flexible and not looking for a very specific model, it just needs to be a steal. That way, I end up driving a nice BMW, Jag or a Merc for free...

DBELL6, I had the same in black (XJR). Great car, fast, refined, comfortable and... reliable (apart from the steering column adjuster). Drove the crap out of it on Euro roads, cruising 100-120 mph for hours in Germany and Italy, clocked approx. 85K miles on it, and it never let me down... nuff said.
