My wife, the kind & beautiful woman that she is
, (just in case she is lurking) has allowed me to start browsing the boating market. Even though I hate to think about selling my Sutphen, but the boating disease is a terrible one..
How big
(speaking offshore style boats) does it have to be before it becomes a pain in the butt to manuever around. All of my boating is at the LOTO as of now,, maybe in the future I will travel, but not for some time..

To DRIVE a boat , I would say 50+ feet ....
To TRAILER a boat , they start to get to be a pain around 38' . Just my .02 Joe

The change from our Top Gun to a 46 Black Thunder was no big deal. We tailer it also without any problem. I usually launch and retrieve it by myself. Go for it!!

Great question,
However here at SML in VA, the real question is how big can you go with out it being a Bit#& to dock. A few people here have 36' cats and have found that boat plus slip and bumpers cannot fit. So they can only park at end of docks, wich are always taken by Cabin cruisers there for the entire weekend. Also you don't want your boat sticking out of slip very far or some idiot will hit it. My cusins just backed out of buying a 38' boat and purchased a 32' instead, so they can park at all the night spots with out a problem. You need to understand our marinas were built to handle18-24' boats. yo get the idea.
As for trailering just check your towing ability on your truck, you do not want to exceed it. Not that it cannot handle it but if anything was to ever happen your fault or not the insurance company is not going to cover it.
WILL
Good luck
