Long Lake & Loud Boats

Check out this link and go to noise impact videos. Your boat might be videotaped on this website! The problem on Long Lake are people with too much free time to videotape boaters and post inaccurate statements.http://www.lrsla.org

Thanks for the info Scarabdude, I see you have been captured on film twice and they have got film of me also.

The future of performance boats on our lake is looking pretty grim... I just heard that the head of the so called "safe lakes assn" just donated $500,000 to Inland Fisheries & Waterways (game wardens)

This really sucks. Brian, don't you feel like you are on constant surveilance from this guy? I'm not sure what to do.

Find out who is doing the video and follow them around as they are driving and tape them. You will be amazed at the violations that most people commit daily. Speeding, improper or no use of signals and failure to come to a complete stop are just a few. Save this for when it is really needed.

What a f*ckin d!ck!! Why can't people just let other people enjoy themselves. Not everyone wants to sit on the shoreline in their burkanstocks, cut off jeans and flanel while eating beats and carressing a tree, contemplating how to improve the eco system!

There are plenty of lakes in the country that there are not ANY boats on let alone high performance boats. Go find one of these and let people enjoy themselves.

Quote from his web site:

LRSLA is actively working in support of Quiet Lakes. Noise is not just annoying. Noise is proven to cause High levels of stress, increase in blood pressure, Loss of Sleep among many other Health issues. The clips below recordings recording of some of hundreds of incidents that occur on Long Lake and Brandy Pond on any given weekend. LRSLA dedicates time to documenting this impact in the hope that some day Quiet will return to the surface water experience in the Lake Region.

What a dick! This is insane. I'm glad I don't have a place on this lake. Someone needs to video this joker driving like was stated above. Surely he wouldn't be hard to find.

Assh*les like this should know that not being able to drive your beautifully loud power boat on your lake can cause high levels of stress and loss of sleep. How would you feel if you spend 6 figures on a boat and were being persecuted by this jerk.

Best of luck to you guys. I feel for you.

Thanks for the support guys!

What really irritates me about this guy is that he is the biggest hypocrite that ever walked the face of the earth. He is not interested in performance boats so he wants them eliminated. But, he is an avid snowmobiler, and they can be pretty obnoxious too, but they are ok in his book.

From what I am told, his wife's family owns the Pep Boys empire. I'm quite sure there are many families all over the country, that are sick and tired of listening to these stupid Honda's with the loud fart-can tailpipes that his empire has sold.

The Lakes Region Safe Lakes Association is a crock...It has nothing to do with safety, just a front for this guys own personal "witch hunt" against performance boats.

Kurt.

Makes me wish that my boat was loud.
Not so that it would annoy people, but so I could get a free videotape of my boat running.

I can see reserving smaller inland lakes for small boats. You see this all the time in places with lots of lakes like MI, IN and MN.

I can even support HP limits on some lakes.

These are the lakes that the serenity seekers should use.

I don't camp on interstates for this same reason. I go somewhere farther off the beaten track.

Some people need to get a hobby, other than making law abiding citizins lives misurable,Ya know you almost feel like a criminal nowadays when you pass a sheriff patrol boat or the coast guard with a good sounding boat, it's really getting to be bullsh@t, most all DUI's on the lake are in small boats and fishing boats, when was the last time you heard of a fellow OSO er get a DUI ticket in his performance boat. What would be cool is if all the lake front property owners shore line would erode really fast if they did'nt have at least 1 boat on there dock with a big block pounding the dirt to keep it from eroding.

I agree......this is music to my ears.

No matter what you do, someone is always going to complain, especially anything dealing with noise. When I was younger I blasted Van Halen out of my car as loud as she'd go, now I see people doing the same thing and I get aggrivated at it :) Do I roll down the window and tell them a thing or 2, or create a freakin website videotaping these people, no. People are different, this idiot does not like loud boats, while others, like me love the sound.

These type of people won't stop.....once the loud boats are gone it's off see what else they can put restrictions on. Just nothing better to do with their time then complain about others. If your going to complain about boats...why the heck stop there, why not cars, motorcycles, weed eaters, blowers, planes, etc. Why just limit and single out boats. Freaking idiots man  get a dang life

Yeah exactly...guy is out to make nothing but trouble just to video tape a boat. Just think if you had as much time as this guy does to just do nothing but grab the camera and follow loud boats around, and raise a family of fellow "LBP's" (loud boat police) in the process. man what a moron.

Has anyone confronted this guy for filming them?

The snow mobile thing sounds good too. Someone should film him leaving his house on his snow mobile and send him a copy of the tape. So if this dip sh!t ever has any court time w/anyone it'll totally discredit him. Just a thought.

People and there own agenda  I don't normally wish harm on people, but a guy like this needs to fall off a cliff!

Re: Long Lake & Loud Boats

This pissed me off so bad that I wrote them a little letter to illistrate my distaste for them. Here's a copy. I would urge everyone on this board to write them and explain how you feel. People like this need to be stopped before it hurts the performance boat community.

Here's their email address [email protected]

Copy:

Hello, I'm writing in concern to your alarming and radical behavior. I feel your attempt to gain control of the waterways of a public lake are extremely transparent and are obviously used to satisfy your own personal agenda. Your attempts to restrict noise on performance boats "for safety reasons" are pathetic. Claiming a loud boat is unsafe absolutely absurd and laughable.

However, Having someone attempt to restrict your god given right to enjoy your time and money can, in your own words, cause High levels of stress, increase in blood pressure, and Loss of Sleep among many other Health issues.

While you were on your witch hunt to find loud boats that disturb your so-called peace, you failed to realize that the very boat you are using while filming these videos cause more “real” danger to the environment through exhaust and un-used fuel spill than any thru-hull style exhaust system can ever cause.

I see you have an American flag waving on your web site. That flag was created and fought for so Americans can obtain freedom. This makes my stomach turn at the thought of someone representing the nations flag on a web site would want to deliberately restrict someone’s freedom. You should be ashamed of yourself!

You should quit this ludicrous attempt to have certain types of boats banned from your local lakes and find another cause that will make you sleep better at night. I suggest you fight to find a cure for cancer, hunger, diabetes, or any other topic that will truly improve life for everyone, not just yourself.

I have left you my e-mail address. If you would like to contact me and discuss this further. Please feel free.

Regards,

Tank Sears

Re: Long Lake & Loud Boats

Tank,

That was beautiful. I really appreciate your input. This guy is out of control and has nothing better to do than beat his own drum.

In actuality, this is really a non-issue up here. On this entire 60 mile chain of lakes, there are probably less than 30 performance boats. I would bet that there were less than 5 loud boats past this guys house all week.

What really kills me is the fact that this guy has donated so much $$ to the IF&W (game wardens) that they are now spending a rediculous amount of time pulling over every boat that seems to rumble the slightest bit....While the idiot rookies and renters just run around recklessly... and I know first hand, I live here on the water.

Seems to me the LRSLA could not care less about safety. It's all about snuffing out a form of recreation that this rich guy does not agree with.

Kurt and Scarobdude, We need to go and raft out in front of allens house, Actually we need to send over somebody from Naples code enforcement to make sure his property "complies" with the town ordinances!!! I think we need to go sit in to the town meetings that he attends on mondays and have our piece seeing he has had his for the last year, He has rated brian (scarob) and Leo's (sonic) as 2004 worst offenders, if he wants "On Golden Pond" there are plenty of lakes in the allegash where he can have his wish, I hate when out of staters come in and think they can take over, Get a life or Get the F@*%k out and take your witch hunt home.

Maybe the fire protection district local to Long Lake could orginize a shootout as a fund raising event. Or, at least threaten to and ask PepBoy Man to write them a check for the funds they expect to raise instead.

I wonder how much the LOTO economy gains from the Shootout? Would Long Lake merchants like to gain similar? They may be a force that can offset PepBoy Man.

Likewise, is there a local cause with strong public support in the Long Lake area that a charity poker run there could support? Maybe the STM or the DOC -- WAIT!!! I need to rethink this  :D

Re: Long Lake & Loud Boats

I recieved two responses from them. Both defending their organization and both hiding behind the fact that their are loud boat laws. I sent a response to them again. Heres the copy.

Dear, Mr. Spaulding and Mr. Rosen-Ducats,

I have read both your e-mails in there entireties. As I am pleased to receive a response from your board I must admit I am still disenchanted with the activity of the LRSLA. Video taping of boats and placing those images on a public website could be construed as slanderous by some. I find your methods of attempting to gain the masses to join in on your plight questionable. And as usual the majority will bully the minority around and get their way.

The number of high performance, thru-hull style boats on your lakes is minimal compared to the average boating public. The noise bothers your group and you insist the laws that were passed by the majority be strictly enforced. I would advise you however, that if you read the law, you would find many useless and ridiculous laws on the books. As such, a majority passed this law in direct affect of a minority.

You and LRSLA hide behind the fact that the noise issue is a law. Yet, the number of high performance boat owners is minimal. I find it hard to agree with a law that is unbalanced and unjust. I would agree that there are muffler systems that can be added to the boats to quiet them but I feel this would not be the end to the complaints from your group. I read, with out trying to read into, the issue of speed and licensing that Mr. Spaulding referred to. Surely you understand there are no speed limits on most lakes and in the ocean, yet you use it to compare to your issue with noise.

I, on principal, am opposed to groups that seek to restrict others. I feel our freedom in this country has been taken away in an unwarranted amount with an excess of litigation among other issues.

I do not attack you personally Mr. Spaulding, and do indeed appreciate your long and distinguished career. I would not insist you take the flag off of your website. I only feel it distressing that a group of individuals wave our flag on a website that wishes to restrict freedoms. Regardless, that is your right to do so.

We agree to disagree on this topic. It is apparent there is nothing that will change that. I did not write my first e-mail to you in hopes I would change your minds. I just wish people in this day and age could let go of their disdain for one another and “lighten up” a bit. Not everyone enjoys the same type of recreation. For instance, I have been informed there are several people on the LRSLA board who enjoy riding snowmobiles. You may find this odd, but I find the loud pitch exhaust from snowmobiles annoying. Yet, to each their own. A few moments of a snow mobile riding by is not enough for me to want to restrict those who enjoy them.

This will be my last e-mail to you. I just felt you should know as a group that there are others who believe people should be able to enjoy themselves with out being harassed. Again, I know there are laws about noise and as stated already there are methods to reduce this. However, I disagree with what you are trying to accomplish and feel you are going about it the wrong way.
Best Regards,

Tank Sears

That was great. Thanks again, we performance boaters up here really need the support!

Chart,

I'll make a suggestion to the Naples FD, they sponsor the Winter Carnival on the lake complete with a drag race track for the sleds. (but they are ok with this guy)
