Re: The best least talked about boat
Those Badboys were something else in Jersy last week. After watching the video I shot I could see the Badboys and Firewater were the ones getting the job done with the least drama, not to say the other boats weren't running hard, it just seemed that these boats were the smoothest. Activator was freakin' FLYING (both on and above the water)... great big air shot.

Re: The best least talked about boat
We ran the 32 Bad Boy in Pt. Pleasant last week and the boat handles the big water very well.Tony P. builds a very high quality boat and the attitude is very predictable.I think you will see these boats more and more on the race course.

Re: The best least talked about boat
I would say Bad Boyz
The only single engine boat that has ever beat me in rough water. The boat is long and flys flat, I would say they have to be the least known of all the boats talked about. He'll , He's only built 3. |

Re: The best least talked about boat
In the last 3 poker runs I've been in I reluctantly have to admit a 34' nordic has been running around 90...Fortunatly i'm running about 95...but noone says anything about these (seemingly) stable, fast boats...IMHO
|
Re: The best least talked about boat
By the way... I'm running KE & Speedmasters...The nordic's are running "something" with bravos!

Perfect for offshore boating IMO. |
I like the 16' and 18' Donzi. Some of best boating memories were from living in Avalon and in Stone Harbor during the summers in the late 80's while in college. Bartending at night, and taking the 18' Donzi out for rides to Brigintine/AC (out in the ocean from Avalon). On a nice day, that was just great.
Yeah, you get wet every so often due to the smallness of the boat, but so what, that is cool. 18' Donzi, I loved that boat. Hot 20 something girls out on the boat, waitresses/barmaids out with me in the boat, some Budweiser, and portable radio --- Glory days!:D |

Superboat! My buddy Krakmeup is having one built right now. Beautiful, well built, inexpensive. Can't wait for a ride!
As for 18 Donzi's... my 1970 Donzi 18 2+3 would get my vote for FUNNEST offshore boat! I ran from Texas City to Offatts Bayou in pretty snotty conditions last Friday and had a BALL! Serious air time! Here's an original ad that looks just like my boat. It may actually be mine! THAT must have been some kinda trip down the chanel. Havent seen you out this year. I've had my Scarab in D#ick Bay a few times... once you get up on plane the depth isnt much of a problem. I do stay EAST of where you are though. |

I gotta ask! What do you guys think about a 22 Searay Pachanga? Sure seems to do a good job with rough water to me! I don't have enough experience with all these different brands to post a choice!

Best Boats
My vote has to be the Lancer Series of Chris Crafts which are glass and not wood as previously posted. In particular, the XK-22 is one of the best lookng boats ever built. And yes, it's a deep vee.http://www.xboat.fr/photos/bateau_517.jpg

Saber and Pantera should be high on the list. The red boats that they have put out are very nice. I have always liked the looks of the Tuff 28 also.

As far as best least talked about my money is on the 1969 Chris Craft Commander Super Sport.
105 total built with just 15 Volvo Transdrive High Performance versions made. 24 degree deep V hull designed by Jim Wynne (famed offshore racer in the 1960s and patent holder of the Volvo I/O) good for an amazingly stable ride though its definitely a lake boat in my eyes. Gets offers to buy her every time she gets wet. This is #001 of the High Performance version doing a prop test: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WaF-7NsjExE http://i1016.photobucket.com/albums/...psaoniljyp.jpg http://i1016.photobucket.com/albums/...pshoztwonv.jpg http://i1016.photobucket.com/albums/...psuwuacryf.jpg http://i1016.photobucket.com/albums/...psrnxcobiq.jpg |
Beautiful boat! But offshore, not....

maybe not but in 69 boats like that paved the way into at least thinking about it with deeper freeboard and high performance (for the day) drivetrain  Definitely a cool 'ol boat and cool piece of history. I'm guessing a Volvo E series drive? |
A least talked about in offshore is hard because they are all discussed here. Regular boats, there was a company out of Minnesota that built some nice runabouts in the 70's until 1980. My parents had a 19ft Farallon in 80. Neighbors and family friends had the 16ft. they still have it today. I still see the smaller runabouts for sale on craigslist here and in Seattle. It was a very popular boat here in the NW.
parents like this: http://www.silverlineboats.org/1979-11.jpg friends like this one: http://www.silverlineboats.org/1980-34.jpg They where the Bayliner here of the 70's and 80's. Larson took them over in 1980 they made a pretty cool looking outboard boat here http://www.bosscatlegacy.com/acproto...83-018-018.jpg We had other neighbors with a Larson/Silverline sport but we didn't know them well. it was like this: http://www.silverlineboats.org/1982-03.jpg Oh we had a cottage on a local lake here and pretty much you either had a V-drive, jet or a Silverline in those days. |
2 of the best riding/driving deep V boats that I've ever experienced were Jim Wynne hulls , regardless of what some may say of him .
I've never been able to try a Formula 233 though . They're supposed to be great hulls too . |
42 outerlimits. Hands down one of the best handling bottoms out there.
