34 superboat ...Can't figure out what is the bad with this thing except it takes a little finesse to get on plane, although I've had seven on board and managed. Flys level and seems to like the loto slop.

IMO at least in the last 8 years to current you hear nothing about the Donzi 38 ZR Competition.
That boat could run very hard in the slop, next boat would be the GTMM - Dragon Hull that really is never talked about. it is a very nice boat and seen it in person as well to make that statement. |

I second Pro27 27' Progression I run a green motored 27' outboard he runs a IO which probably runs the snot better then mine and mine loves the ruff stuff. I would assume most people that know the Northeast waters would agree that the Atlantic where it meets Block Island sound would officially constitute "Offshore" boating.......

So I'm struggling just a bit. The title of this post is "The best least talked about boat." That said, why are all of the Donzi owners (not to bash a good boat line) coming out of the woodwork saying that Donzi meets that criteria? Donzi is a world famous builder of high performance boats. That's not exactly a "least talked about" boat builder. I'm thinking that small, low volume niche boat builders are more what the OP was looking for.
BTW, if anybody's interested in my vote, it would go to Progression - for obvious reasons. |
Just saying the Donzi name is huge but really they have not had volume sales of anything in the past 10 years and since 2008 they really have not built a boat. The 38 ZR comp boat how many were ever built total what maybe 10 to 15 total max if even that and when was the last time anyone even said one word about it ? APBA days ?
I have never owned a Donzi so have no reason to throw it in the mix but did so as that 38 comp boat is really a great running boat. And for the rest of my Post - GTMM / Dragon boat, only one made with very little press and coverage. Damn nice boat and seen it in person. |

I think Sutphen & Saber are least talked about but they are badass.
|
Well, here in the land of Bajas and Checkmates, everybody looks at me like I have three heads when I politely inform them my "Cigarette boat" is a Progression....

Saber and Pantera should be high on the list. The red boats that they have put out are very nice. I have always liked the looks of the Tuff 28 also.

Mark built these to run - call him @ Tuff Boats. The build quality and attention to detail is unreal

I like the Progressions but how come you never hear about the 29 ? how does that compare to the 27 ?

Badump bump :lolhit: I think I'd prefer the 29 with twin O/B over the 27. The 24LD and 27 are sit downs, the 24XL and the 29 have the option for stand up bolsters. The 29's sunpad is longer, and rough water handling is supposed to be better at the cost of some top speed. I'm VERY happy with my 24 High Deck/XL, but I still find myself browsing for a used 29. |

I like the 16' and 18' Donzi. Some of best boating memories were from living in Avalon and in Stone Harbor during the summers in the late 80's while in college. Bartending at night, and taking the 18' Donzi out for rides to Brigintine/AC (out in the ocean from Avalon). On a nice day, that was just great.
Yeah, you get wet every so often due to the smallness of the boat, but so what, that is cool. 18' Donzi, I loved that boat. Hot 20 something girls out on the boat, waitresses/barmaids out with me in the boat, some Budweiser, and portable radio --- Glory days!:D |

Donzi is the original, but for an 18 the Sutphen Gran Sport rocks!!

I gotta ask! What do you guys think about a 22 Searay Pachanga? Sure seems to do a good job with rough water to me! I don't have enough experience with all these different brands to post a choice!

39' Dragon/GTMM
1 Attachment(s)
As stated before the Dragon now GTMM 39 is a great low production boat that hasn't seen a lot of attention. The new bottom design in the GTMM version is fast and stable and runs 110mph with Merc 700's. Turns on a dime and handles the big stuff like a champ.

After many years of boat ownership and even more years of being out on the water I can say hands down the best boat out there are all my friends boats that I get to go out on all the time .
