When you "borrow" one of Breyo's cars and liquidate it "for him" at the auction and forward the proceeds on his behalf to Markel. :eureka: Good ride yesterday buddy. Your house is AWESOME!

I'm currently paying 2600 a year for my 30 cat with a big deductible.

Ive done a lot of research on 30 and under cats and Markal is THE ONLY company that will knowingly write a cat. I haven’t looked at the over 30 big HP but for the under the rules were,
Less than 120MPH
Less than 1000HP, interesting w/ Mercs new 600 announcement,
The 28 Skater I was quoted just made it by their speed calculations. They had it at 119mph which we all know is BS but they were willing to right it so I wasnt going to argue for nothing.
Lloyds of London will write just about anything for a price but was told by my insurance guy and my attorney, only as a last resort.

Chuck, Have you gotten anyone to quote it?

I was quoted just under 7k a year on a 29' cat with 525's a few months ago. This would have been my fourth cat with no accidents.

alot of the price has to do with replacement value. be realistic dont price your boat if you paid 100,000.00 for 150.000.00. tell them 95.000 once they get over 100.000.00 you pay out the but.

Re: Cat Insurance?????

I have my 31 Warlock through American National Insurance. I told them it goes over 100mph and they have it written with 1050HP. Less than 1000 a year. I paid over 2000 for my old 24 that only went 88 or so.

I am a direct Markel Agent, they will do cats, based on a speed calculator rating of up to around 120mph. I will gladly quote for you if you call or go to my web site. As to ANPAC and others, they don't know what your boat is, once they do you will be canceled (sorry, standard lines companies make mistakes every once in a while, when the underwriter cant spell boat.) Hopefully another market will enter, but we better stop seeing pictures of flipped cats!!!
thanks
lenny

one other thing, if you have a Lloyds policy and it is really that cheap, I would really suggest you read the policy to see whats covered. Sometimes you get exactly what you pay for.

Right now you aren't as cheap...Why do you got to attack the other companies ability to spell boat? Bottom line: If ANPAC doesn't know what they are insuring I am saving about $1000 a quarter until they figure it out.

Your not saving your wasting. God Forbid you ever need to submit a substantial claim they will (could) tell you then YOU HAVE NO INSURANCE. It is up to you to "figure it out" not them. They will gladly take your premiums because if they dont have to pay they have no liability.
Again I dont know the details of your policy and Im not saying you dont have insurance. Im just saying read the fine print.

Personally I believe this is going to have a substantial impact on the resale of these boats. I think once the banks realize these some of these boats are not insured as the owners think they are, lending money will be the next problem. For this question I will star another thread.

Re: Cat Insurance?????

I only have a 26' Eliminator and I use First Marine Insurance. $625 a year, with a $500 deductiable!! I have 15years boating experience and have owned and insured cats since 1995. Never a claim, or accident, they have been my insurer for 15 years.

They tell me that any boat over 25' goes on a "Yacht" policy, and that is why their insurance is much cheaper.

573-348-2743 is their contact information, and I think that they only write in the midwest.

I sold my old 25' eliminator cat, and the new owner uses Farm Bureau out of St. Louis and he only pays $680 a year.

Chuck,

I will ask Bruce Miller the info on his 36 Spectre. That might be a little more apples to apples for you. (36 Nortech)

Lenny R 08-24-2004 06:49 PM

Re: Cat Insurance?????

My phone is 866-805-3691 and I did try calling you.
First Marine is a great company. If you venture a look at the policy it might say Markel on it. First Marine is also a Markel agent (along with being an insurance company). Great Folks in Missouri.
Yes I did work for Markel, until February I was the Director of Marine Insurance. I resigned to take the opportunity to become Vice President, Sales and Marketing for American Marine Insurance Services, who has been doing performance boat insurance since 1988.
I am not cutting on ANPAC, they are an excellent personal lines company, I am simply saying they don't understand what your boat is because they don't do a lot of boats or performance boats. Someone else summed up what could happen if a claim occurs. Pricing varies by speed, the faster the boat, the more the cost, v-hull or cat. Simply put Cats just go faster with less power. The very speed calculator used by Markel can be found at http://go-fast.com/boat_speed_predictions.htm While the speeds might not be exactly accurate they will be a predictor of speed and equate to dollars.
Hope that helps
Lenny
