L.I. Engine Builders??

Can anyone from the Long Island New York area recommend a local engine builder who I can speak with about building a reliable 425HP+ engine.

FullThrottleMarine in Glen Cove. I think Tom's OSO name is TomFTM. He 's a good guy that knows his stuff.

Craig :)

There is also MRD and Zul, but I don't think they'd be interested.
425 is not that much of an upgrade. What are you starting with?
Puder would know, but I think he'd point you to TOMFTM too.
And Toms OL is nice too, he was at the MB poker run.
You shoulda asked this question a week ago. ;)

I agree...Falcon High Performance in Hampton Bays will build also, but it might be too small for them too. Why not just get the Merc 496HO? It's a great engine for that HP range.

Re: L.I. Engine Builders??

When I say 425+ I mean I would also go higher I just want reliability. My only problem with just dropping in a merc is that the boat has a volvo in it. I am pretty sure that limits me on my options...

and I ask now because I got that itch from the MB poker run....

Re: L.I. Engine Builders??

Would any of these guys even work on Volvos?
Richie Zul is a very nice guy.
There were some boats w/ MRDs at the run also.

Re: L.I. Engine Builders??

Definatly go with Falcon. I was out there yesterday bringing them my new exhaust and I spent alot of time talking to Joe, their main engine builder. Super nice guy and his main goal is solid power with reliability. They keep a fairly low profile but do a great job taking care of customers and their boats. They work on boats like the OL pictured above with a pair of 1300hp motors, and others with stock power. I'm sure they will have no problem building whatever you want. 631-723-0794

Re: L.I. Engine Builders??

falcon, MRD and zul if you want to spend big $. Falcon might not be as much $$$ as the others.

I think Full Throttle and tom would biuld you a damn good engine and not charge you insane money.

If i needed a new engien i'd probably go with tom.

Blue Lightning is in CT, they're definitely worth a call. DJD had nothing but praise for them.

Re: L.I. Engine Builders??

use the volvo flywheel housing cover from your current BB, I had to get a new Merc one because the motor I bought has a volvo one on it , Chris Martin may still have the one we pulled off mine. BTW 425hp will put that in the 70 range :D
personally I wouldnt want too much more HP , remember its a STEPPED HULL :D Opps thats another thread

Johnny,
I am presently building a 540. I am doing it myself, but I got the short block kit ( block, crank, rods, pistons, rings and bearings ) from Scott Schafiroff. He had the best deals by far for the parts. Give them a call, ask for Vinny B. Tell him Vinny P. with the 540 gave you his number. 631-218-7530..
