We made it through the night!Looking back, staying in Orange Beach probably was not a real smart move. Can't see outside yet(still dark)but I know it's going to take the chainsaw to get the 'Cruiser out of the garage. The local TV station that we can barely pick-up with rabbit ears(!) is reporting unreal damage to Gulf Shores & Orange Beach.Generator is running the computer & now i'm gonna make a pot of coffee......Ricky

Re: By-By IVAN
This thing looks like it is going to take it's time going up the coast. Looks like it is going to take some time doing loop d loops.

Re: By-By IVAN
glad you came through it ok, when I read your post I was worried about you, how is your house did it have any damage. It is weird you guys are having so much bad weather in the south, in MI we have been experiencing the summer we never had. Good luck with the clean up

Re: By-By IVAN
Good to hear you are OK Ricky. Keep us posted on how things are going down there.

Re: By-By IVAN
Donzidog,
If you do get out or hear anything could you please check on my Inlaws place? They live in Grand Key Riverside which is across the street from the Florabama and Phoenix 10. They are with me in Baton Rouge but are going crazy wondering about the house. In that subdivision they have a house on the water and its the to the left of the only vacant lot on the water. Kind of a yellowish green color. He also has a 32 Envision that was on a lift at the pier. From what we could tell from the TV the eastern eye wall went right over their house. They are worried sick. I dont think the police will let them in for a few days to even check on it. Ron Cardinal 225-751-8155 cell 225-677-5424 house |

Glad to hear you're okay. From what I'm seeing on tv, it looks like things are rough along the panhandle. :(

Re: By-By IVAN
Just got back from Sportsman Marina-the damage is unbelievable! The police chief gave me clearance to check on it because my wife is manager there, but they are keeping everybody off the roads.I don't think they are gonna let anybody on the roads at least until tomorrow. The damage I saw on Canal Road is awful. I heard there is a lot of water on the Gulf side of the island. As soon as I can talk my way to the other side of the island I will check on every one's property...just post me some directions. The big lumber yard right beside my house looks like a bomb site.....my house didn't lose a shingle...strange,very strange.........Ricky

Ricky,
Glad ya'll made it through the storm! We were watching the weather channel all evening yesterday and it wasn't looking good for the Alabama coast. We're just waiting on all the rain to get here. Think I'll move the trucks outside and cover them with soap! Robert |

Just heard the Flora-Bama is GONE! Ricky, say it ain't so,please. Robert
|
Re: By-By IVAN
what is the Flora-Bama, the name keeps coming up? Such a beautiful area.......such a shame. I can't stop thinking about everyone there. Be careful they keep saying more people get hurt after the storm than during it.
|
Re: By-By IVAN
The Flora-Bama is the last great American Roadhouse. The rich and famous and the poor and unknown alike have been drunk there,an absolute landmark and legend. www.florabama.com

Re: By-By IVAN
I heard the predo key bridge has damage . its close to Flora bama. so there is going to be some sever damage in that area.If Flora bama is gone I would assume the houses behind it and on ono island it want be good :(there claiming a 15 foot storm surge hit there.
Thats a very big tourist area |
Re: By-By IVAN
Restabr is from there also. I hope he is ok??

Re: By-By IVAN
I would guess Restabr is at his Mississipi home cause Ricky got his Formula and stored it for him. I just heard that there is lots and lots of damage to the homes on Ono Island.

Re: By-By IVAN
Still won't let us anywhere near the beach road.I'm afraid the Florabama is history(memorial service soon). There is a lot of road damage to the beach road. They just said water is 8' deep on GulfShores Pkwy in front of Hardees. They also are looking for several snakes & gators from the zoo.Ono Island bridge is damaged & shut down.We got ourselves one hell of a mess!!!.....Ricky

Re: By-By IVAN
That bridge picture is terrible across Pensacola Bay!!! Is that the bridge that goes into Santa Rosa County? :(
They were on the right front of the storm, the worst place of all. Hope everone is OK in Milton, Pace, Gulf Breeze, Perdido and surrounding areas. I'm praying for them. |
Re: By-By IVAN
Just got some reports from Orange Beach. Many places are totally destroyed but some survived. There is a good airborne video on www.wwltv.com if you know the area well you can pick out a few landmarks. On the video you can see the Phoenix 10 and where Flora-Bama used to be. Flamingo Key on the other side of Phoenix 10 is destroyed. We were able to see that my inlaws house is still there and it looks like it has a roof on it.

Re: By-By IVAN
Any word on "Live Bait" ?
|
Re: By-By IVAN
My Mom lives in Gulf Breeze, and from what she has been told is that no one has been allowed to cross the three mile bridge. The three mile bride connects Pensacola to gulf breeze, and Santa Rosa island has been washed over. Not good by any means. My Mom is lucky, she has been told that there is no water damage to her house and that she only lost 15 shingles. Both of her neighbors sustained significant roof damage. They are saying that all of the foliage is completely stripped bare.

Re: By-By IVAN
Ricky I told you to Leave!!! Maybe next time you'll listen. Like being in a washing machine isn't it???
Guys the flora-bama and panama mac's across the street are gone, I've been to the spot and seen it first hand. It honestly made me sad to see such icons be destroyed. Thanks for the memories to owners Joe, Pat, and Marty Mac. I am with OBFR and have been on duty since Monday (and we to stayed for the festivities). As Ricky said the damage is unbelievable, but so far no reported injuries here in OB. On a good note...Gary Nichols and crew did get the boat out safely and Live Bait has damage but will recover. Please keep us in your prayers as we begin to rebuild the wonderful area they call the Alabama/Florida Gulf Coast. **Ricky be careful roaming around, the roads are washed out east of AL. Point and Bear Pt. is still not cleared. sam jackson safety/medical director gulfoast power boat assn. |
